✨✧ Akiko YanoJapanese Girl ... LP
Midi/We Want Sounds (UK), 1976. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
The debut album from Akiko Yano – and a set that's gotten more than a bit of acclaim over the years, in part because the group Little Feat back her on the first half of the record. Akiko sings in Japanese throughout, which sounds surprisingly great next to the rootsier sounds of Lowell George and the group – especially when they're mixed with some of Yano's own keyboards, and when the instrumentation takes on a few less-likely turns to match the really great range of the vocals. Side two was recorded back in Japan, and features work from Haruomi Hosono, Keiichi Suzuki, and Tatsuo Hayashi – and songs include "Oka Wo Koete", "Hekoriputaa", "Oinaru Shiino-Ki", "Sayonara", "Kuma", and "Telephone Line". ✨✧ Akiko YanoGohan Ga Dekitayo ... CD
Midi/We Want Sounds (UK), 1980. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
One of the grooviest, catchiest albums from Japanese singer Akiko Yano – a set that features instrumentation from Yellow Magic Orchestra, production from Ryuichi Sakamoto, and lots of warm, wonderful tunes that are perfect for Akiko's amazing vocals! Yano's got a range here that might well match that of Kate Bush in her early years – although the song setting is much different, and more in some of the tuneful electro pop modes that the Japanese scene was really starting to perfect – a nice distillation of the energy of the fuller AOR years of city pop, with a focus that really brings out the charms of a singer like Akiko. Titles include "Tong Poo", "High Time", "Dogs Awaiting", "You're The One", "Gohan GA Dekitayo", "Mata Aone", "Gokigen Wanisan", and "Aoi Sanmyaku". (Rock, Rock) CD
