✨✧ Kensington MarketAardvark ... CD
Warner/Pacemaker Entertainment, 1969. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Even better than the first album from Kensington Market – and a set that really extends their unique sound! There's a bit more confidence on a few of the tunes here – but never too much to dominate the group's personal approach to their music – and the instrumentation gets a bit bold at points, with a bit of fuzz on guitar, some moog and organ, and drums that make some of the best numbers move into compelling rhythms. The vocals always have a nicely lyrical feel – a good fit for the poetic lyrics – and titles include "Said I Could Be Happy", "If It Is Love", "Help Me", "Think About The Times", "Cartoon", "Dorian", "Side I Am", "Ciao", and "The Thinker". Kaze Chorus Dan (Haruomi Hosono)Aiiro No Kisetsu ... LP
Aardvark/Fuji (Japan), 1974. New Copy (reissue)... $28.99 49.99
A really cool early project from the legendary Haruomi Hosono – a set that's got a very unique vibe that's all its own! At points, the record almost feels like a soft rock treasure from the A&M Records label from a few years before – but with Japanese language vocals – but at other points, there's a different mix of styles – one funky number, a few more upbeat swingers, and even this really great long instrumental that leads off the whole album with this cool spacey soundtrack sort of vibe! Hosono did the arrangements alongside Mitsuo Hagita, and the whole thing definitely has a quirky quality that opens up all the more unusual currents that Haruomi and some of his key contemporaries were bringing to the scene in the 70s. (Japanese, Rock) LP, Vinyl record album
(Great pressing – heavy vinyl and cover, and obi!)

✨✧ VariousPsych – British Prog Rock, Folk, & Blues 1968 to 1972 (3CD set) ... CD
Deram/Universal (UK), Late 1960s/Early 1970s. New Copy 3CDs ... Out Of Stock
A very cool overview of underground sounds on the UK scene during a key musical moment – and not a package of overplayed classic rock, nor the kind of psych and prog that's been reissued often over the years – and instead this really fantastic collection that goes out of its way to pick overlooked tunes and unusual acts! All the work here comes from the diverse array of records issued by the Deram label during the time – and yes, if you're a deep digging fan of psych and prog – and we count ourselves in that territory – you'll know some of the acts here, but you'll also appreciate the ones you don't – and also really enjoy the way the songs come together over the course of the 3CD package! There's a whopping 64 tracks in all – work by Christopher Colt, Davy Graham, Warm Sounds, Virgin Sleep, The Societie, Timebox, Tintern Abbey, The Plague, Elastic Band, Aardvark, Bill Fay, Igginbottom, Galliard, Pacific Drift, Black Cat Bones, Room, Darryl Way's Wolf, Mellow Candle, Stud, Satisfaction, and many others.
