Funky keyboards and dubby grooves – a great little record that's as much inspired by Jamaican music as it is the longer legacy of American funky jazz! Soul Sugar first started giving us 45s about a decade ago, but their sound has really matured over the years – as leader/keyboard maestro Guillaume Metenier has gained even more control over his Hammond, Fender Rhodes, clavinet, and minimoog – and also picked up plenty of sweet keys along the way! The rest of the instrumentation on the set mostly just comes from bass and drums – but there's a sonic layering approach that really makes for a deep, rich vibe throughout – completely badass in approach, with none of the fakery that you might get if a less-skilled musician were trying to fuse two musical worlds together. Three tracks feature vocals, and the legendary Lonnie Smith guests on one track too – and titles include "Big Car", "East Of The River Nile", "Take A Chance", "19 Miles To Kingston", "Why Can't We Live Together", "Mellow Mood", and "Get Up & Get It".
