✨✧ CultureCumbolo (Shanachie) ... LP
Shanachie, 1979. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
As Culture moved to working with producer Sonia Pottinger, they began to develop more of their own distinctive style, rather than relying on the model of Burning Spear's harmony work. And though they achieved some of the greatest commercial success of any of the more hardcore roots groups, their message and music remained undiluted throughout. 10 tracks in all, including "Innocent Blood", "Cumbolo", "Natty Never Get Weary", "Natty Dread Now Run", "Down In Jamaica", "This Train" and "Mind Who You Beg For Help". ✨✧ VariousGotta Get A Good Thing Goin – Black Music In Britain In The 60s (4CD set) ... CD
Strawberry (UK), Mid 60s. Used 4CD ... Out Of Stock
One of the most unique compilations we've ever heard – a set that gets at the really unique way that soul music came across on the British scene of the 60s – as American influences were mixed with local interpretations, which themselves drew plenty of influences from related scenes in the West Indies and South Africa at the time! The scope of expression here is hugely different than any American soul collections from the time – and while there's definitely a few Americans in the mix from time to time, they're mostly represented by recordings done in England, amidst a huge amount of artists who never get reissued on our side of the Atlantic! Usually, a set like this would be put together to show that Northern Soul created some upbeat music on the British scene – but with this gem of a collection, the scope is much wider, and really open to the influences that were running through black communities in England during these key post-colonial years. The package has a massive amount of music – 115 tracks in all, with a very cool book-styled package that's got superb notes and plenty of images – to support work by Lorraine Child, Peter Straker, Maxine Nightingale, Cy Grant, Cab Kaye, Dimples & Eddie, Ronnie Jones, Ernest Ranglin, Norma Lee, Jimmy Tomas, Jackie Edwards, Madeline Bell, Oliver Norman, The Fantastics, Root & Jenny Jackson, Ram John Holder, Simon K & The Meantimers, Caleb, The Foundations, The Soul Brothers, Blue Beaters, Seven Letters, Joe's All Stars, Sonny & The Daffodils, Tony Washington & The DCs, Davy Jones, Geoff Love, Ray Ellington, Emile Ford & The Big Six, Millie, Rico, Black Velvet, and many others! Lee Scratch Perry & The UpsettersScratch & Company Chapter 1 (LP sleeve edition) ... CD
Clocktower/Get On Down, Mid 70s. New Copy ... $6.99 14.98
Pivotal Black Ark material from Lee Perry – with brilliantly tripped out echoey dub production – and scorching instrumentation laid down by the mighty Upsetters! Split roughly in half between Perry's nicely gritty instrumental moodcraft and hazy vocals, this collection features some uber prime Upsetters material. It's all hear – heavily rumbling bass grooves, tripped out, though spiritually resonant vocals and just enough of smoky haze without getting too thick to breathe. Amazing stuff! Includes "Scratch The Dub Organizer", "Bush Weed Corn Trash", "When Jah Come", "Curley Dub", "Serious Joke", "Who You Gonna Run To" and "Tighten Up". CD
(In a very cool Japanese-styled, LP-like cardboard sleeve cover!)

✨✧ VariousDread Meets Greensleeves – A Westside Revolution ... CD
Greensleeves (UK), 1970s/1980s. Used 2 CDs ... Out Of Stock
Heavy transatlantic vibrations selected by Don Letts! As the principle architect of the connection between the brash UK punk scene of the 70s and the Jamaican music community, you know Letts is especially qualified to assemble a massive set of reggae pulled from the vaults of Greensleeves! Bouncing back and forth between rollicking dancehall and dee jay cuts, earth shaking dubs and hardcore roots, on up through bubbling modern digital numbers, this is one excellent set of cuts that haven't been anthologized over and over again as you hear so often! 30 tracks spread out over two discs, including "War" by the Wailing Souls, "Wa Do Dem" by Eek A Mouse, "Mary Long Tongue" by Barrington Levy, "How The West Was Won" by Toyan, "Love Tickles Like Magic" by Junior Delgado, "Poor & Humble"by Wayne Wade, "None Of Jah Jah Children No Cry" by Ras Michael & The Sons Of Negus, "Let's Get Started" by Tetrack, "Pirate's Anthem" by Home T, Cocoa Tea and Shabba Ranks, "Mind Yu Dis" by Gregory Isaacs, "Heads High (Kill 'Em With It rmx)" by Mr Vegas, "Under Mi Sensi" by Alozade & Hollow Point, "No Letting Go" by Wayne Wonder, "Sufferer" by Bounty Killer and "Love Is Divine" by Sizzla.c CD

Jam Sounds/Heartbeat, 1976. Used ... Out Of Stock
An essential reissue of an essential roots album! A mid 70s landmark of harmony roots, the Abyssinians' Satta Massagana, aka Forward To Zion, is hard to beat for hardcore, spiritual roots delivered over hypnotically pulsing rhythms, and Heartbeat ups the ante by digging deep for some excellent and essential dubs and extended mixes, plus several sweet bonus numbers. Sly and Robbie, plus Horsemouth and Boo Richards, Micky Chung, Chinna Smith, Clive Hunt and Geoffrey Chung are among their erstwhile co-conspirators on this self produced gem. 14 tracks in all, including "Declaration Of Rights", "The Good Lord", "Forward Unto Zion", "Know Jah Today", "Abendigo", "Y Mas Gan", "Black Man's Strain", "Satta Massagana", "I & I", "African Race", "Leggo beast", "Peculiar Number", "Reason Time" and "There Is No End".
