Andre HodeirJazz Et Jazz ... LP
Philips, 1958. Near Mint- ... $19.99
Brilliant work from the modernist underground late 50s Paris! Andre Hodeir was one of the city's best-known jazz composers and arrangers at the time – a key part of the postwar scene, and its development into its own style away from strictly American sounds. Hodier's working here with a great batch of French players that include Martial Solal, Roger Guerin, Pierre Gossez, and Pierre Michelot – plus the then-French resident Kenny Clarke. The music swings much more than on other sessions of this type, and works extremely well throughout at blending tight jazzy lines with very "out there" concepts – especially in a way that we never really see in 50's recordings like this. Christine Legrand is on vocals, and although this was years before the Swingle Singers did their thing, and especially before they went onto do avant garde material by Berio, she's got these insane vocals here that are simply astounding. Tracks include "Jazz Et Jazz", "Trope A Saint-Trop", "Jazz Cantata", and "Osymetrios". Very good stuff, and unlike anything else we can think of! (Jazz, Out Sound) LP, Vinyl record album
(Mono white label promo with deep groove. Cover has light wear and aging, center splits in the spine and bottom seam, and a promo ink stamp in back.)

✨✧ Steve ReichMusic For 18 Musicians ... CD
ECM/Nonesuch, 1978. Used ... Out Of Stock
A groundbreaking set of modal minimal tracks that stands as one of Reich's most popular and accessable works. The music is extremely subtle, and features 18 musicians playing a variety of violins, cellos, clarinets, pianos, marimbas, and vibes – all in short cyclic passages that move in and out in ways that perfectly illustrate Reich's fascination with phase progressions in modern music. ✨✧ MoondogMoondog & His Honking Geese – Playing Moondog's Music (10 inch LP) ... LP
Honest Jons (UK), 1955. New Copy (pic cover, reissue)... Out Of Stock
An extremely rare slice of early work by Moondog – recorded right around the time of his early albums for Prestige! This 4 track ep features short tunes recorded by Moondog in his hauntingly spare style of the time – using earthy percussion to set the pace of the tracks, and also working with a small horn section, most likely the "honking geese" in the title! The tracks have a slightly more jazz-based feel than we've come to expect from Moondog at the time – with a crazed approach that's very much in the Raymond Scott mode! Features the tracks "Bumbo", "Dog Trot", "Single Foot", and "Rabbit Hop". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ John ZornNaked City ... CD
Elektra, 1989. Used ... Out Of Stock
The first, and arguably the best, of John Zorn's Naked City albums. The sound is extremely intense, and represents a blinding blend of influences, most of which Zorn had been showcasing in more easy going settings on previous albums. The core group includes Bill Frisell, Wayne Horvitz, Fred Frith, and Joey Baron – plus a guest appearance by Yamatsuka Eye. Hard to find on vinyl, and with the titles "Demon Sanctuary", "Speedball", "James Bond Theme", "Ingenous Ejaculation", "I Want To Live", and "Latin Quarter". (Jazz, Out Sound) CD
