✨✧ HellersSingers Talkers Players Swingers & Doers ... LP
Command, 1968. Very Good+ Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
These Hellers are pretty darn hip fellers – way more than just singers, talkers, players, swingers, and doers – and also experimentalists with a very groovy approach to their music! At one level, the record's got a dreamy pop feel that's very much in keeping with the album's inclusion on the Command label in the late 60s – but at another level, it's got some playful electronics and spoken word bits that remind us more of the cut-up commentary of Jon Appleton and his Syntonic Menagerie! The album was written by Dick Hamilton and produced by Hugh Heller – and it features a wide number of voices that float in and out of the mix in both spoken and sung passages – including a contributions from McLean Stevenson and Sally Stevens! There's plenty of moog and analogue electronics next to some groovier pop production – and titles include "The Elevator", "It's 74 In San Francisco", "And Now The News", "The Piano Lesson", "Take 46", "The Mist Of Time", "High Fly Ball", "The Mechanic", and "Life Story". ✨✧ Count Basie & His OrchestraBasie Meets Bond ... LP
United Artists, Late 60s. Very Good+ ... $6.99
An excellent gimmick from the United Artists label – a way of mixing their strong run of 60s soundtrack hits with the world of jazz – thanks to Count Basie and his group taking on a whole host of themes from the successful James Bond films! Count Basie brings a soulful swing to the work of John Barry, who scored most of these cuts – hitting hard on the tracks with his own smoking piano, and an orchestra filled with some of his best players – including Al Grey on trombone, Eric Dixon on saxes, and Freddie Greene on guitar – plus guest tenor work from Eddie Lockjaw Davis, an artist who wasn't credited on the session at he time. Arrangements are by Chico O'Farrill and George Williams – and titles include "Thunderball", "From Russia With Love", "007", "Girl Trouble", and "Goldfinger". (Jazz, Now Sound) LP, Vinyl record album
(Stereo pressing. Back cover has a small stain and the paste-on is unglued on the top seam.)

✨✧ Nick DeCaroItalian Graffiti ... LP
Blue Thumb, 1974. Very Good ... $19.99
One of our favorite records of all time! We've got to admit, this one's an acquired taste, but if you dig cool LA studio pop from the early 70's, this record's a real treasure! Nick DeCaro was probably best known to the world as an instrumental arranger for A&M (he did a lot of the Claudine Longet albums), but this record from the early 70's has him singing in a set of cool spacey tracks that mix studio pop and jazz for a sound that's unlike anything else we've ever heard before. Nick's backed by a tight group that includes LA jazz players like Arthur Adams, Wilton Felder, Paul Humphrey, Harvey Mason, and David T. Walker – and the sound is very compressed, very laidback, and very very hip. Tracks include "Under The Jamaican Moon", "Wailing Wall", and great versions of "Getting Mighty Crowded" and Stevie Wonder's "Angie Girl". Remember, it's an acquired taste, but if you like stuff like middle period Steely Dan or Maria Muldaur, you'll really dig this one! LP, Vinyl record album
(Vinyl plays with a short click on two tracks on side 2. Cover has light ring wear, cutout hole.)

Martin DennyForbidden Island (2nd cover) ... LP
Liberty, Late 50s. Very Good+ ... $18.99
Martin Denny's music always takes us away to the tropics – and this set is a whole Forbidden Island of exotica tunes! The record features the classic Denny exotica quartet with Augie Colon and Julius Wechter – plus some additional guest players on flute, percussion, and guitar – rounding out things very nicely. The expanded sound works nicely for Denny's style – and the mood incorporates plenty of easy lounge arrangements of the fairly standard instrumentation in the backdrop – broadened wonderfully in the arrangements! It's sort of a blue-eyed tropical feel – one that makes it a cheeky classic! The set includes some good originals like "Goony Birds", "Cobra", "Exotica", and "Primitiva", plus the Les Baxter tunes "Port Au Prince" and "Sim Sim", as well as a perennial exotica fave, "March Of The Siamese Children". LP, Vinyl record album
(Rainbow label pressing with deep groove in the foil cover, with splits on the top & bottom seams and some clear tape, with light surface wear & aging.)
