Dick Hyman —
Mirrors ... LP Command, Late 60s. Very Good+ Gatefold ...
Pre-moog – but still very nice, and an album of oddly-arranged tracks that features Hyman on both organ and piano! The format's a straight trio, but the arrangements open the tracks up more than you expect – and take the songs past their simple cover versions. Includes a groovy version of "Ode to Billy Joe", plus "Respect" and "Groovin" – plus more obscure tracks like "House Of Mirrors" and "The Flower Road". Not a total breakbeat experience, but a nice bit of cheesy keyboards and some nice grooves! LP, Vinyl record album
(Stereo pressing. Labels have some marker. Cover has a spot of tape on the spine, light surface wear, a small split on the bottom seam, and some marker on the back.)
One of the coolest, grooviest moog albums you'll ever hope to buy – a wonderful foray into the new world of synthetic sounds, done by pianist Dick Hyman – who was working in a straight jazz format just a decade before! Dick turns out to be a wonderful talent on the moog – very well-suited to the record, with just the right sort of quirky, playful approach to bring the best out of the instrument – at a level that's right up there with the best by Perrey & Kingsley, and maybe even cooler – given that Dick doesn't rely nearly as much on studio tricks! All tunes are pretty bouncy, groovy, and filled with sweet moogy touches – and titles include "The Minotaur", "The Legend Of Johnny Pot", "Improvisation In Fourths", "Topless Dancers Of Corfu", and "The Moog & Me". LP, Vinyl record album
A groovy LP that features this swinging 60s keyboardist playing his versions of some of the bigger soul covers of the day! The album features Hyman on piano, organ, and clavinette, and he's playing with "The Group", a tight little combo that gives him a hip kind of mod edge that wasn't heard on some of his earlier albums. Tracks include "Chain of Fools", "Sweet Sweet Soul", "Soul Man", and "Honey Chile". LP, Vinyl record album
Enoch Light and his Big Band give upbeat renditions of "Desafinado", "One Note Samba", "Perdido", "E Luxo So", "Sem Saudades De Voce", "Besame Mucho", "Take The A Train", "Lullaby Of Birdland", and others. LP, Vinyl record album
