✨✧ GonjasufiMandela Effect ... CD
Warp, 2017. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
An album that's kind of a cross-section of the Gonjasufi sound of late – given that it features some remixes and rework tracks – but a record that's still very much an important addition to his ever-growing catalog! The sound is spacey and laidback, but also has lots of dark currents – that fuzzy sense of distortion, used both on the keyboards and beats, and on the voices that flow through the tracks – which almost feel like some weird sort of outer space lyricism at times. Titles include "When I Die (IMD rmx)", "The Conspiracy (Santiro Romeri rmx)", "Show (Beth Gibbons/Rustin Man cover)", "Your Maker (Daddy G rmx)", "Afrikan Spaceship (Shabazz Palaces rework)", "Manic Depressant (Perera Elsewhere rmx)", "Etherwave (feat Tony Allen)", "Afrikan Spaceship (King Britt rms)", and "Your Maker (Anna Wise remaker)". Boom BipBlue Eyed In The Red Room (with bonus 3 inch CD) ... CD
Lex (UK), 2005. Used 2CD ... $5.99
Electro grooves built from analogue instrumentation – another ambitious album from Warp subsidiary Lex Records – home to nearly-great hip hop albums by Danger Mouse & Jemini and Prince Po! With the exception of the really cool packaging, Boom Bip's album bears little in common with the above mentioned efforts – those being forward-looking hip hop, and this being quite tough to categorize – which by the way is a complement. It's a really hypnotic wave of unearthly, but warm instrumental soundscapes with occasional spare vocals. It's in the vein of Four Tet's work, but it's still very much Boom Bip's own animal. Guest vocalists include Super Furry Animal Gruff Rhys and Nina Nastasia. Tracks include "Cimple", "The Move", "Do's & Don'ts", "Girl Toy", "Dumb Day", "Eyelashings", "Soft & Open", "One Eye Round The Warm Corner", "Aplomb" and "The Matter (Of Our Discussion)" featuring Nina Nastasia. CD
(Out of print. In the die-cut slipcase.)
