The classic sound of Funkadelic, reworked by a key selection of contemporary talents from the Detroit scene – but never in a way that wrecks the originals at all! Unlike other remix projects, which might break up the music to a point that you can hardly recognize the original grooves – this set does a wonderful job of maintaining all the integrity of the famous funky recordings by the group, while also letting some artists from the group's hometown also include a few of their own contributions too – all in ways that really expand the original vision of the music, while keeping things in a funky soul vein all the way through! Given all the greateness of Detroit grooves in recent years – from that city's very fertile underground of producers and musicians – the sound here is still even more amazing than we expected, and the album's a very fitting one to be issued on the Westbound label. Some of the most soulful housey sounds your likely to find in the later 00s – a warm & grooving Destination from Anthony Nicholson! Destination has numbers flavored by smoothed out keys, beats more lightly percolated gems as well as spacier, more thumpingly percussive numbers – with uncommonly soulful vocals and a more live feel than so much of the club ready grooves out there. Anthony's on keys, vocals, drums, percussion & programming with assistance from Chris Robb on keys and bass, Matt Cashdollar on sax, Will Kurk on keys, guitar & vocals, Jrod Indigo on vocals, and others. Alright, we admit that the tile sounds like something from Ghostbusters – but don't hold that against Baby Mammoth's Octo Muck! This album has some of the leanest, most poppin' and chest thumpin' electronic club grooves we've heard in a while! The tunes stick to what works, without a lot of unnecessary ambient noise and clatter – and lots of pronounced, thumping bass and percussion, hypnotic synth and keyboard chords, with some occasionally jazzy accents on flute and drums! A nice one! About that title though. . . Titles include "Seven Years", "Lady Cod Diver", "Sunburn", "Blind Date", "Finale", and "Big Show". CD

Another nice set of wholly unique avant grooves from Dani Sicilano – with sweet vocals and a completely engrossing leftfield vibe from Dani – and production by Matthew Herbert and arrangements by Max De Wardener. The bubbling, thumping off kilter touches are wonderful – and done a really tuneful way! Many of the tracks were done with fairly standard instrumentation, but processed in a way to bring in a wonderful otherworldly vibe. Nice! Tracks include "Slappers", "Didn't Anybody Tell You", "They Can Wait", "Why Can't I Make You High", "Frozen", "Too Young", "Think Twice", "Big Time", "Repeats", "Wifey" and "Be My Producer". CD
