A groundbreaking meeting of musical icons – with veteran jazz greats, a couple of then-young guns, and one of the MCs who helped bring jazz into hip hop in the first place! Jazzmatazz bridges both stylistic and generational boundaries in incredible ways, not only an earnest effort by Guru to pay heartfelt tribute to heroes, but to show his own and subsequent generations its the vitality and longevity jazz music – with a lineup that includes Donald Byrd, Roy Ayers, Ronny Jordan, Lonnie Liston Smith, Carleen Anderson, N'Dea Davenport and MC Solaar. 12 tracks in all, including "Slicker Than Most", "No Time To Play", "Loungin", "Sights In The City", "Le Bien, Le Mal", "Transit Ride", "When You're Near", "Down The Backstreets", "Respectful Dedications", "Take A Look At Yourself" and "Trust Me". Obsessive (UK), 1970s/2002. Near Mint- 3LPs ... Out Of Stock
We couldn't think of a better name for this collection of futuristic grooves, compiled by Kirk Degiorgio and Ian O'Brien, two modern groove scientists who've always managed to infect their beat making machines with more than a little bit of soul. Spanning the spectrum from the classic fusion of Lonnie Liston Smith's "Love Beams" and Herbie Hancock's lost soundtrack number "The Spook Who Sat By The Door" to Syreeta's spacey soul take on Stevie's "I Love Every Little Thing About You" and Shuggie Otis' "XL30" to modern electronics and NuJazz like Seiji's "Into The Now" and Super-A-Loof's "Patience", plus tracks by David Axelrod, George Duke, Dunn Pearson Jr and more, 13 tracks in all. ✨✧ Clear Path EnsembleSolar Eclipse ... LP
Soundway (UK), 2022. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A jazz group at the core, but one with lots of nicely warm touches around the edges – a mix of percussion and vibes from group leader Cory Champion, who also brings in plenty of Fender Rhodes, guitar, and other keyboards as well! At times, there's a nicely cosmic vibe to the music – almost an evolution of the 70s sound of Lonnie Liston Smith – but there's also a lot more going on too, including cool use of bass clarinet, cello, harp, and other elements from other players to complicate the sound – plus occasional Buchla electronics from Champion, which creates a nicely spooky vibe – a bit like when Pat Gleeson might drop in a few sounds on a 70s jazz funk album. Titles include "Sunrise Motif", "Absolvo", "Revolutions", "Kihi", "Drumatix", "Plazma Plaza", and "Talking To Water". (Jazz, New Grooves) LP, Vinyl record album
