✨✧ Nicola Conte/Gerardo FrisinaNefertiti/Gica's Dance ... 12-inch
Schema (Italy), 2004. Near Mint- (pic cover)... Temporarily Out Of Stock
2 wicked Latin jazz jammers – both issued here for the first time on vinyl! Nicola Conte's beautiful groover "Nefertiti" may well be one of the best things he ever recorded – a midtempo Latinish number that builds on snapping drums, warm bass, and sweet wordless vocals – drifting into the mix right before the tune's core instrumentation of vibes, piano, and horns kick in! "Gica's Dance" is an equally well-done track – again with more great vibes and percussion – created by Gerardo Frisina in a style that's very similar to that of Conte's. Both tracks only ever appeared on the Freedom Jazz Dance CD – and make for a fantastic single back to back! 12-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Fred P/Rest Symbol/Resonating/Patrice ScottInside Vol 3 EP ... 12-inch
Neroli (Italy), 2024. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Four very kicking tracks hand-picked by Volcov – each nicely different, but equally great! Fred P steps in with "Time Well Spent" – a driving number with a great kick in the rhythms – followed by "Etius Motif" by Rest Symbol, a much more laidback, airy, and cosmic number! J707 follows with "Resonating" – a skittish groove that folds back nicely on itself with some very robotic keyboards – and the set ends with "Untitled (beat version)" by Patrice Scott, a tune that bubbles with all sorts of cool percolations! 12-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ NujabesOther Side Of Phase/Rainy Way Back Home/Horizon ... 12-inch
Hydeout Productions (Japan), 2024. New Copy (pic cover)... Out Of Stock
A rare slice of Nujabes – his reworking of the Samurai Champloo theme, but in this really stripped down, moody instrumental – very nice piano solo in the middle, over beats that move back and forth with the "phase" you might expect! "Rainy Way Back Home" has more of that great piano over beats – one of the real trademark Nujabes moves – but also has maybe a bit more hip hop kick at the bottom, and these buried snippets of what sound like turntable work! "Horizon" is great too – longer than both, really jazzy on the piano tip, and with this kicking rhythm that almost likes the whole cut sound like some of the clubby jazzy piano groups that have sprung up on the Tokyo scene after the passing of Nujabes! (Hip Hop, New Grooves) 12-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Silent PoetsTo Come (US version) ... CD
Atlantic, 2000. Used ... Out Of Stock
The Silent Poets' excellent To Come album is remixed and repackaged for the US market. Typical stuff, as some of the tracks are given a bit more of a kick to make them crossover to the American market – clear proof that the folks at Warner think that US listeners aren't hip enough to understand the subtle complexity of this fantastic Japanese group. Still, the remixes aren't that over the top – and most of them still retain the flavor of the original tracks. Titles include "I Will Miss This Holy Garden (Slipper & Socks rmx)", "Someday (Extended Spirit rmx)", "Save The Day (Peaktime mix)", "Come Raising (Raisin'sun Mix)", "Get Ready (Freeform Arkestra rmx)", "Prisons (Frieze To A Phrase rmx)", "Where The Sidewalk Ends (scuba mix)", and "Sugar Man (The Man Who Sold The Time rmx)". Remixes by Kid Loco, Tom & Joyce, Taxi, and others. CD

✨✧ VariousJames Lavelle – Fabriclive 01 ... CD
Fabric, 2002. Used ... Out Of Stock
One of a series of mix CDs focusing on DJs who spin at the Fabric club in London. This volume features former Mo Wax honcho and stalwart UNKLE member James Lavelle, and as you can imagine, spans the gamut of funky modern headz music. We didn't really know what to expect from the mix, and a fair bit of the stuff on here falls into the post big beat-house & techno-influenced groove that's a bit more over the top than we'd expected, but it's put together and continuously mixed in a way that emphasizes the atmospherics and groove nicely. The tracks listing has 23 cuts, but since it's a mix, a few of the bits are a little short, like the intro and Rare Earth rock break that kick off the mix. It goes on from there to include the Psychonauts "Circles", DJ Shadow "Organ Donor", South "Broken Head II", Howie B "Hey Jack", Forme "Kick A Hole (Tigerstyle)", Green Velvet "La La Land", Lazonby "Sacred Circles" and ends up at Radiohead's "Everything In Its Right Place". Plus the whole thing's packaged ina nice metal box with a cardboard slip case. (Funky Compilations, New Grooves) CD

✨✧ Hotel New TokyoGaudi No Yuutsu (CD & DVD) ... CD
Rose (Japan), 2006. Used CD & DVD ... Out Of Stock
A compelling new group from Japan – one who work in a mix of jazzy styles and gentler modes that reminds us a bit of the earliest grooves from Jazztronik! Hotel New Tokyo share a similar love of space and sensitive sounds with Jazztronik mainman Ryo Nozaki, but also know how to kick up a groove when they want – and the album balances sparer, more soundscapey tracks with fuller tunes that are awash in rhythm and have a playful mix of sound samples, voice snippets, and instrumentation. Titles include "Dun Dun", "Trip In Jazz", "PM 7:42", and others with Japanese titles! CD

✨✧ MantronixWho Is It? (freestyle USA club, who's dub is it?, freestyle radio, UK club mix, bonus beats, LP radio) ... 12-inch
Sleeping Bag, 1986. Near Mint- (pic cover)... Out Of Stock
Probably the best track off the second Mantronix LP. The 12-inch version fills out the trademark Mantronix sound with more syth and effects and the Freestyle dub is the more spare version. And then everything drops out but the bass kick and high hat on the 'bonus beat' version. (Hip Hop, New Grooves) 12-inch, Vinyl record

K7 (Germany), 2019. New Copy ... $11.99 12.99

In the spirit of this popular series, Kruder & Dorfmeister remix some of the tastiest modern grooves from hip labels like Ninja Tune, Moving Shadow, Compost, and Cup Of Tea. The pair add in a nice heavy sound, giving the tunes a bit more soul than usual, thanks to a wonderful sensitivity for a nicely placed riff. Soulful beats with more than a hint of a hip hop influence – no surprise, considering that the album features guest appearances by Bahamadia, What What, Roots Manuva, The Dream Warriors, and Blade. Lots of heavy downtempo beats, a great one to kickback and herbalise to! Titles include "Who's The Realist?", "Moon Sequence", "Mind In The Frame", "Shattered Soul", "Let It Go", "When I Shine", and "Starlight". CD

✨✧ Nicola Conte & Gianluca PetrellaNigeria (Tall Black Guy boogie love rmx voc, rmx inst)/African Spirits (Andres ext rmx) ... 12-inch
Schema (Italy), 2022. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Two great cuts get a nice warming-over! Tall Black Guy takes the mix of acoustic percussion and keyboard lines on "Nigeria", and really deepens the soul – adding vocals from Broken Keys, and coming up with a clubbier vibe for the cut overall – one that has some nice currents for the tribal house crowd! That vibe also continues on "African Spirits" – which gets its beats kicked up by Andres, who also stretches out the tune and really lets it run wild! 12-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Sabrina MalheirosTerra De Ninguem (Nicola Conte rework)/Cade Voce (Max Cole & Beatnik rmx)/Equilibria (album) ... 12-inch
Far Out (UK), 2006. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Nicola Conte, we love you – and if we ever needed a reason why, this single sure is proof! Sabrina's one of the better modern bossa divas around – really classic in approach, but with a great energy for the dancefloor – and here, she gets a Schema-styled taken courtesy of Conte – who kicks in a snare-heavy groove that really snaps the tune along wonderfully – jazzing up Sabrina's take of the famous "Terra De Ninguem", and almost making the whole thing come off like an Elis Regina classic from the 60s! A real bossa dancefloor gem – and one of our favorite singles on Far Out to date! 12-inch, Vinyl record

A kicking little cut, and one that has a snapping snare and tribal percussion in the groove, warmed up by all sorts of sweet keyboard and instrumental touches! ✨✧ VariousJazz Bizniz 3 Reworks EP ... 12-inch
Counterpoint (UK), 1970s/2003. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Some of the best remixes we've heard so far from the Counterpoint crew – a serving of tracks from the excellent Jazz Bizniz 3 album! The single kicks off with "Everything", a spiritual groover by Dwayne Morgan, taken into pumped up club territory after a snipped of the original introduction – but done so in a way that really changes up mood, space, and time within the track. After that, Beatfanatic reworks "Suite Guaracho (part 2)" by Tata Vasquez – taking the tune's original Latin grooves and folding them back on themselves with some very tight percussion breaks and riffs! Closing out the set is an unmixed number – "Cha Cha Be Bop" by Guapacha, a great bit of Latin jazz with some cool scatting vocals! (Funky Compilations, New Grooves) 12-inch, Vinyl record
(In a stickered sleeve, with some ring and edge wear, and some price sticker remnants. Labels have side notations in pen.)

✨✧ Calibro 35Traditori Di Tutti ... CD
Record Kicks (Italy), 2013. Used ... Out Of Stock
Damn! These guys just keep getting better and better with each new release – to the point where they're way more than just a combo dedicated to classic soundtrack modes – and instead have found a fuzzy funky space that's all their own! Both the instrumentation and rhythms are sharper than ever – very hard-hitting, on the rockier side of 70s sound library styles – and topped with some fierce guitar work that makes nearly every cut bristle with a newfound sense of power – matched by mighty sweet lines on keyboards that include Fender Rhodes, clavinet, mellotron, dulcitone, and eko tiger! Vocals are almost nonexistent – leaving the most room for instrumentals that ring out boldly – and titles include "You Filthy Bastards", "The Butcher's Bride", "Mescaline 6", "Stainless Steel", "Two Pills In The Pocket", and "Traitors". CD
