Gaetano PartipiloBesides – Songs From The Sixties ... CD
Schema (Italy), 2013. Used ... $6.99
Just a few of the songs here are from the 60s, and many of the rest are written by Gaetano Partipilo himself – and mixed with a few Brazilian numbers as well – all to round out a wonderfully rich sounding album that really lives up to the best Schema tradition! Instrumentation is mostly live jazz – played by Gaetano on alto sax, as well as Nicola Conte on guitar, Pietro Lusso on Fender Rhodes, Pasquale Bardaro on vibes, and Fabrizio Bosso on trumpet – but maybe best of all are the vocals, which shift a bit over the course of the record, and include raspy soul lines from MR Natural, and warmer female vocals from Alice Ricciardi, Heidi Vogel, and Rosalia De Souza. Half the tracks are instrumentals, and the mix of modes really makes the album great – never settled too far into one comfortable corner, and really taking the listener on a great journey overall! Titles include "Essa Mulher", "Se Voce Pensa", "Beyond The Days", "Jive Samba", "Right Now", "13 Death March", "Wall & Water", "Atras Da Porta", "The Sticks", "Moon Flower", and "Ocean Dance". ✨✧ VariousServe Chilled – 28 Pure Chilled Out Grooves ... CD
Hed Kandi (UK), 1999. Used 2CD ... Out Of Stock
Wonderful grooves for the after-set crowd! This sparkling 2CD set features a perfect blend of mellow club tracks – all taken at a nice easy pace, with plenty of warm keyboard washes, slow funky beats, and snakey groovy instrumentation popping up at the best points in the mix. The selection's a well-chosen trip through underground sides, obscure remixes, and hard to find album sides – all tied together nicely with a good dose of soul, and a strong flair for presentation. Includes "Moon Sequence" by The Herbalizer, "Glass Bead Game" by Thievery Corp, "Resist" by Outside, "Les Nuits" by Nightmares on Wax, "Lizzie's Balloon" by 45 Dip, "Silvia" by Fourth World, "Beyond My Imagination" by Jazz Vandals, "With You" by Smoke City, "Sem Contencao" by Bebel Gilberto, "Cry" by Afterlife, "Who Do You Love?" by Jose Padilla, and "Marching On" by Ballistic Brothers. Loads more – and a great vibe throughout! (Funky Compilations, New Grooves) CD
