Jimi TenorNY Hel Barca ... CD
Bureau B (Germany), 1990s/Early 2000s. New Copy 2CD ... $9.99
A collection of early work from Jimi Tenor – an artist who's maybe known best these days for his spiritual jazz and funk recordings, but one who sounded very different at the time of this material! Jimi issued much of this music on the Warp label back in the 90s – and although there's some funky elements, there's also a fair bit electronic elements too – much more in the old school Warp mode, but evolving in a surprising way over time – particularly on some of the late 90s material, in which Jimi might use larger orchestrations, or bits of reeds – warming things up, and taking directions that would mature much more strongly in the 21st Century. In a way, a lot of these cuts are a nice link with an earlier generation of electronic European experimentation – of the sort the Bureau B label usually reissues – and titles include "Spell", "Tesla", "Year Of The Apocalypse", "Xinotepe Heat", "Take Me Baby", "My Mind", "Natural Cosmic Relief", "A Daughter Of The Snow", "Shore Hotel", "Outta Space", "Unmentionables", and "Rubberdressing". CD
