Spiritual sounds from a group who just seem to get better and better with each release – a combo headed up by Lance Ferguson, who you'll know from previous funk projects, including work in The Bamboos – an artist who's turned out to be a surprisingly strong jazz leader as well! There's definitely some soulful currents of Lance's previous work mixed in with the music – including some female soul vocals that help the record soar at points, almost with a Roy Ayers righteousness, especially in the way the singers join together – and the rest of the ensemble features Fender Rhodes, tenor, soprano, trumpet, and some mighty nice percussion – on titles that include "Arrival", "Danieda's Dance", "Of", "Shores Of Infinity", "Kingdom", and "Earthrise". Kylie Auldist —
Just Say ... CD Tru Thoughts (UK), 2008. Used ...
Out Of Stock
The stunning debut of Kylie Auldist – working here with some great help from The Bamboos! Kylie's sung with the group in the past, and the album's produced by Bamboos mainmain Lance Ferguson – who also plays on the record too – but the style is much more complicated than that combo's deep funk, and more in a classic 60s female soul mode – with echoes of both UK and US styles in the genre! The production is wonderful – clear, clean, and captivating – with a rich array of instrumentation that moves the set past regular retro-funk cliches to embrace a much wider range of classic soul sounds. Titles include "Make Me Want More", "Still Into You", "Just Say", "Community Service Announcement", "No Use", "Pretty Things", "Gotsta Get Me Some", and "That's Why". (Deep Funk, New Grooves)CD

Clara Moreno —
Mutante ... CD Timewarp (UK), 2001. Used ...

A lovely set of dancefloor work from Clara Moreno – one that seems to take equal parts inspiration from the sounds of Rio, and from the sounds of the global club circuit! There's certainly a groove here that belies Clara's heritage in Brazilian music – but many of the tunes also bubble with traces of the globally-conscious rhythms that have been coming out of the New York, London, and Japanese scenes in recent years. Clara's vocals are especially sweet on the mellower tunes, but the uptempo ones still sound great too – and the album also features some guest work by Joe Claussell and Ashley Beedle. Titles include "Zazueira", "Banana", "When You Gonna Learn", "I Want You Here", "Mutante", "Partido Alto", "Hello Rio", "Feminina (Bambino & Samba mix)", and "Another Star". (Brazil, New Grooves)CD
