Willie Bobo & the Bo-GentsDo What You Want To Do ... LP
Sussex, Early 70s. New Copy (reissue)... $9.99
Incredible work by Willie Bobo – a slamming record of hard funky instrumentals, one that sounds different than any of his other albums! The record's a killer all the way through – a mixture of Latin and deep 70s funk, one of the few perfect fusions of the styles, held up beautifully all the way through the set. We've always liked Willie a lot, but honestly, we don't know how he managed to make a record this funky – but we're also not arguing, just enjoying the grooves with tremendous delight and surprise. Great all the way through, and includes the break cuts "Do What You Want to Do", "Broasted or Fried", and "Soul Foo Young" – plus a version of "Dindi", which, for some reason, Willie seemed to record every chance he got! Other titles include "Shut Up & Pay Attention", "Come Together", and "Never You Mind". (Soul, Latin) LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Spanish Harlem OrchestraUnited We Swing ... CD
Six Degrees, 2007. Used ... Out Of Stock
Possibly the greatest album to date from Spanish Harlem Orchestra – a set that sounds like it could have been lifted from the salsa years of the 70s, recorded with a really classic style all the way through! The group's far beyond stating their gimmicks here – and have nicely settled into a confident mode that could almost rival the work from many years back on the Fania label. Pianist Oscar Hernandez leads the group, and vocals are by Willie Torres, Ray De La Paz, and Marco Bermudez – plus Paul Simon on one guest track, which is at the end in case you want to skip it! Titles include "En El Tiempo Del Palladium", "Que Bonito", "Ahora Si", "Sacala Bailar", "Danzon For My Father", "Soy Candela", "Mujer Divina", and "Plena Con Sabor". CD
