Insolito UniVersoLa Candela del Rio ... CD
Olindo (UK), 2019. New Copy ... $11.99
A Venezuelan group, one who are living in Paris – and work here with a criss-crossing of styles that really reflect that global journey! The music definitely has echoes of older Venezuelan styles, but maybe served up in a more impressionistic version – with a dream-like quality at times, as the instruments come together airily, often getting a nicely moody vibe in the production – which was partly done by Malcolm Catto, who also mixed the record. There's a really lovely female singer in the mix – with a lightness that's almost more like a bossa vocalist at times – and the instrumentation is both electric and acoustic, but often delivered at a level that make it hard to figure out where one begins and one ends. Titles include "Lloviendo En Guatire", "Yo Soy Mi Rio", "Tonada Del Guante", "Transmutada", "Vuelve", "Pajaro", and "Machurucuto". (Global Grooves, Latin) CD

RozanaRozana ... LP
RVV (Mexico), Late 60s. Very Good ... $24.99
Groovy bossa from Rozana – a Brazilian by birth, but working here in a rare Mexican session from the 60s – singing in Spanish, Portuguese, and English! The style's right up there with more familiar female bossa of the time – lightly jazzy backings that feature tight percussion, bits of guitar and organ, and some occasional added strings, such as you might find in the work of Astrud Gilberto – all to support Rozana's lovely vocals, which are themselves recorded with a nice use of echo on some of the more dramatic cuts! Titles include "Mas Que Nada", "Reza", "Voce", "Fly Me To The Moon", "A Sorrir", "O Galo", "Copacabana", "Tristeza", and versions of "A Banda" in both Spanish and Portuguese! (Brazil, Latin) LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has a lightly bent corner, small name in pen, and some aging. Label has a small name in pen.)
