Joe Cuba SextetDiggin' The Most ... LP
Seeco, Early 60s. Very Good+ ... $14.99
A classic early groover from the great Joe Cuba – easily his best album of the pre-Latin soul years – and recorded in a tight small combo mode that was really shaking up the New York scene at the time! In advance of most other Latin leaders, Joe was already working here with both English and Spanish language vocalists – Cheo Feliciano and Jimmy Sabater – in a great mix of styles that has some early soul creeping into the mix, and which also features some heavy groovers that wonderfully distill the longer descarga style into some shorter lively numbers! Tracks have lots of great vibes – and titles include "Mercy", "Llegue", "Mambo Of The Times", "Siempre Sea", "El Hueso", and "Arinanara". LP, Vinyl record album
(Blue label Seeco pressing. Cover has some edge wear, aging, and light stains around the edges.)

Susana EstradaAmor Y Libertad ... LP
Divucsa/Espacial (Spain), 1981. New Copy (reissue)... $25.99
A slinky soulful groover from Susana Estrada – a Spanish singer, but one with a great ear for American club – as you'll hear on this classic set from the start of the 80s! Given her looks, and her legacy on screen, Susana's somewhat in the mode of the "porn star singing disco" that was big in the late 70s – but there's also a lot more going on here with the grooves, thanks to arranger/producer Josep Lobell, who is able to channel Nile Rodgers one minute, Leon Ware the next, and keep things moving through a range of Euro and New York disco styles. Titles include "Que Calor", "Mi Chico Favorito", "Ven", "Hgamoslo Juntos", "Voy Desnuda", "Arena Y Mar", "Quitate El Sosten", and "Gozame Ya". (Soul, Latin) LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ La Cumbia Moderna De SoledadLa Clavidad (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Costeno/Vampi Soul (Spain), 1979. New Copy (reissue)... Temporarily Out Of Stock
There's some rootsy-looking instruments on the front cover, but the music also has all of the modern touches promised by the group's name – hardly the more familiar mainstream cumbia of the late 70s, and instead this wonderful hybrid that's really unique! We don't normally dig albums with South American wood flutes – but here, the instruments are combined with plenty of raw percussion and nicely-dipping basslines – rhythms that often echo the moves of cumbia, but with a style that's much earthier, and which has some especially nice edges on the reeds! Titles include "Crees Que Soy Sexy", "Puno Molio", "El Currambero", "Indio Faroto", "La Clavada", "El Escandalo", and "Busca Perro". LP, Vinyl record album
