Cal TjaderHuracan ... CD
Crystal Clear/Liberation Hall, 1978. New Copy ... $12.99 14.99
One of the most obscure albums of the 70s from jazz vibes legend Cal Tjader – a set that was originally done as a direct-to-disc session for an audiophile label, but one that has Tjader recording with some of his grooviest modes of the time! The group here is wonderful – and the album sparkles with all these wonderful electric piano lines from the great Clare Fisher, a player who always seems to bring out the best in Cal – working alongside Gary Foster on flute and alto, Willie Bobo on timbales, Frank Rosolino on trombone, and Pancho Sanchez on congas! The whole thing's wonderful – and titles include "Ritmo Caliente", "Desposado", "Funquiado", "Tres Palabras", and "Huracan". Very likely Cal Tjader's best Latin LP of the 70s! (Jazz, Latin) CD

✨✧ Jorge DaltoChevere ... LP
United Artists, 1976. Very Good ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Killer fusion from keyboardist Jorge Dalto – who plays some especially great Fender Rhodes on the album, plus a bit of moog and Arp as well! The album's got a warm sound that never lets the keys get too spacey – a slight Latin undercurrent in the rhythms, and the album's slight vocals too – sung by Ruben Blades, Dalto and Adela. But most tracks are instrumental, and feature the keyboards very strongly in the lead – on top of instrumentation that includes Seldon Powell on tenor, Jerry Dodgion on alto and flute, Victor Paz on trumpet, and Bernard Purdie on drums. Ronnie Foster plays a bit of minimoog on the set – and the record has the same soulful fusion feel as some of his best work – with a lean, spacious groove, but one that's always plenty darn soulful. Titles include "For Openers", "Dolphin Dance", "Theme In Berlin", "Stella By Starlight", "Time For Some Changes", and "I've Got You On My Mind". (Jazz, Latin) LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has minimal wear and looks nice overall.)

✨✧ Clare Fischer & Salsa Picante2+2 ... LP
MPS/PA USA, 1980. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
One of the grooviest albums that Clare Fischer ever recorded – featuring his electric Latin fusion group Salsa Picante, fronted by a two-man/two-woman vocal quartet who give the album kind of a "Brasil 66 meets Singers Unlimited" kind of sound! Fisher is on Fender Rhodes, and the group features Poncho Sanchez on conga, percussion by Alex Acuna, and some great reed work by Gary Foster. Tracks include "Du Du", "Legacy", "Guajira Pa La Jeva", "Funiquado", "Melancolico", and a great version of Fischer's excellent "Morning", one of his best and most-recorded compositions! ✨✧ Cal TjaderA Fuego Vivo ... LP
Concord, 1982. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A Fuego Vivo is a live septet set with the latin vibes master out front of Mark Levine on keys, the great percussionist Panco Sanchez on congas, and Gary Foster on alto and flute. It's a pretty atypically frenetic set for such a late date – with wonderfully tight, yet still quite jamming takes on "Serenita", "Ponco Con Dos Amigos", "Mindanao", "Tesoro", "Santo Domingo", "Naima" and "The Continental". ✨✧ Cal TjaderGood Vibes ... CD
Concord/Picante, 1984. Used ... Out Of Stock
A very nice set of mellow west coast Latin vibes from Cal – sort of an updating of his classic 50s San Francisco groove on Fantasy, done with a host of California players that includes Roger Glenn, Poncho Sanchez, and Gary Foster. The record features a remake of Cal's big hit from the 60s – "Guachi Guaro (Soul Sauce)" – plus the tracks "Doxy", "Cuban Fantasy", "Good Vibes", and "Shoshana". (Jazz, Latin) CD

VariousDJ Amir Presents Buena Musica Y Cultura – Good Music & Culture – Rare Latin Sounds From Across The Americas ... CD
BBE (UK), Late 60s/1970s. New Copy ... $9.99 18.99
One of the most fantastic collections we've ever heard from DJ Amir – a set that may well blow away his classic On/Off Track sets for the depth of its spirit and feeling! Amir's been well-known as a crate digger for many years – and while digging for funk, soul, and hip hop on the New York scene, he's also come across plenty of rare Latin nuggets – not familiar salsa or crossover Latin Soul, but instead some much deeper numbers that show just how much spirit and imagination the music had when it was at its best! Most of the numbers here are from late 60s and 70s vintage – and many have this jazzy energy that goes way past just simple grooves, and which instead features the richer colors and complicated motions of some of Eddie Palmieri's music, especially in the 70s. Titles include the previously unreleased "Salsa (parts 1 & 2)" by Fito Foster – plus "Picadillo" by La Moderna Of New York, "Bomba" by Dax Pacem, "Paranoia" by Wayne Gorbea Y Su Conjunto Salsa, "Rogelio Tiene La Salsa" by Chino Y Su Conjunto Melao, "Yo No Bailo Con Juana" by Cortijo Y Kako, "Vete De Aqui" by Joey Aponte, "Asi Asi Descarga" by Mike Hernandez Y Su Sonora Casino, "Tembelque" by Louie Colon, "El Ritmo Soledad" by Orchestra Soledad, and "El Pulpo" by Joey Pastrana. (Funky Compilations, Latin) CD
