Return To ForeverRomantic Warrior ... CD
Columbia/Legacy, 1976. Used ... $3.99
One of the hardest-jamming Return To Forever albums – recorded with the post-Brazilian lineup that includes Chick Corea on keyboards, Stanley Clarke on bass, Lenny White on percussion, and Al DiMeola on guitars. Corea's very firmly in the lead – stretching out in heavy keyboard romps that really take off into space – propelled by fierce drums from White, heavy bass from Clarke, and a bit of tippling guitar from DiMeola. We kind of miss the subtlety of Airto's percussion, and the beautiful vocals of Flora – but the overall sound's still pretty wonderful and we do like the spaced-out keyboard touches! Titles include "Soceress", "The Romantic Warrior", "The Magician", and "Majestic Dance". CD
(Out of print, Contemporary Jazz Masters pressing.)

✨✧ Chick Corea & Return To ForeverLight As A Feather ... LP
Polygram, 1972. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A classic bit of jazzy fusion from Chick Corea and the legendary Return To Forever group that included Flora Purim and Airto! The sound of the album influenced a generation, and although the album was overlooked by groovers for years, partly due to its success, it still sounds surprisingly fresh – skipping along with an amazing mix of fusion, Brazilian rhythms, and free-thinking solos! The album's overflowing with great-grooving goodies – and titles include the great original version of "Captain Marvel", plus "Light As A Feather", "Spain", and "500 Miles High". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Return To ForeverWhere Have I Known You Before ... CD
Polydor, 1974. Used ... Out Of Stock
A killer classic from the second chapter of Chick Corea's Return To Forever group – standard-setting fusion for the 70s, and a showcase of keyboard skills from Chick that nobody would have imagined years before! There's definitely plenty of soaring energy at the core of the record – the great Lenny White on drums and percussion, and Stanley Clarke on a bit of organ and plenty of bass – the latter of which is used in nicely different ways than his work with George Duke! Al DiMeola plays electric and acoustic guitar, and Chick also uses a bit of acoustic, next to Fender Rhodes, clavinet, and organ – and there's a warmth here that few other fusion combos could ever hope to touch. Titles include "Vulcan Worlds", "Where Have I Loved You Before", "The Shadow Of The Lo", "Where Have I Danced With You Before", "Beyond The Seventh Galaxy", "Earth Juice" and "Song To The Pharoah Kings". ✨✧ Return To ForeverWhere Have I Known You Before/No Mystery ... CD
BGO (UK), 1974/1975. New Copy 2CD ... Out Of Stock
A pair of fusion classics – back to back in a single set! Where Have I Known You Before is a killer classic from the second chapter of Chick Corea's Return To Forever group – standard-setting fusion for the 70s, and a showcase of keyboard skills from Chick that nobody would have imagined years before! No Mystery is one of the key moments from this legendary group of the 70s – a set that really helps redefine the fusion groove of the time – moving away from some of the more rockish modes that others borrowed from prog, using some of the Brazilian influences that Flora Purim brought to an earlier incarnation of the combo, and also touching off on some of the soulful styles that others would soon pick up on the mainstream! Chick Corea handles a host of incredible keyboards – and the rest of the lineup features Al DiMeola on guitar, very much electric at many points – plus Stanley Clarke on bass and Lenny White on drums and plenty of percussion – really helping the group soar to the skies. Titles include "Dayride", "Jungle Waterfall", "Flight Of The Newborn", "Sofistifunk" and "Excerpt From The First Movement Of Heavy Metal". CD

✨✧ Chick CoreaReturn To Forever ... LP
ECM, 1972. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
One of Chick Corea's greatest moments on record – the self-titled album by the legendary Return To Forever group – a combo that included Joe Farrell on saxes, Flora Purim on vocals, Airto on percussion, and Stanley Clarke on bass! The sound is archetypal 70s fusion at its best – filled with soaring electric keyboard work from Chick, and plenty of great Brazilian touches by Airto and Flora. Farrell's reeds help the tunes get a really sharp edge, especially once they get going – and the whole album is an electric piano classic through and through, filled with great titles that include "Sometime Ago/La Fiesta", "Return To Forever", "Crystal Silence", and "What Game Shall We Play Today". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original Japanese pressing – MP 2273 – with obi. Cover has spotty aging in back. Obi is held with clear tape at the seam in back.)

Chick CoreaAgain & Again ... LP
Elektra, 1982. Near Mint- ... $9.99
An overlooked gem from Chick Corea – recorded in the early 80s, but with a sweet electric groove that takes us back to his best from a decade before! Chick plays Fender Rhodes and other keyboards – and works here with a group that has a nice sort of angular edge – none of the too-smooth moments that were sometimes showing up in Corea's other early 80s work, and instead some of the driving, soulful undercurrents that really sparkled in the Return To Forever years. The Fender Rhodes sounds great – clear and clean, just like back in the old days – and the group features reeds from Steve Kujala, bass from Carlos Benavent, drums from Tom Brechtlein, and hip percussion from Don Alias. Titles include "Twang", "Quintet #3", "Waltze", "Again & Again", and "Diddle Diddle". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Mahavishnu OrchestraInner Mounting Flame ... LP
Columbia, 1971. Near Mint- ... $39.99
A massive set of fusion from Mahavishnu Orchestra – a group that features some incredible guitar work from John McLaughlin, who sounds even more focused and driven here than on his own records! As with Return To Forever or Weather Report, the combo's a supergroup of sorts – with Billy Cobham on drums, Jan Hammer on keyboards, Jerry Goodman on violin, and Rick Laird on bass – all wailing with great intensity on some of the best numbers – a lot more energy than you might expect from their slightly more meditative name! Titles include "Meeting Of The Spirits", "Dawn", "The Noonward Race", "A Lotus On Irish Streams", and "Vital Transformation". LP, Vinyl record album
(180 gram Speakers Corner pressing. Includes the insert. Cover is lightly bent at the bottom seam.)

✨✧ AirtoFree ... LP
CTI, 1972. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
One of the coolest, grooviest albums you'll ever hear from the legendary percussionist Airto – a set that mixes his own Brazilian roots with the electric genius of 70s CTI – all with stunning results! Airto's in the lead – and blows some beautiful wood flute lines alongside percussion – but the album also features killer contributions from Joe Farrell on soprano sax, Hubert Laws on flute, Keith Jarrett on piano, and Chick Corea on Fender Rhodes – as well as a hip bit of vocals from Flora Purim as well! There's some added horns at parts – but the arrangements are relatively spare and subtle – so that most tracks have a core organic quality, very similar to Airto's work on Buddah/Cobblestone, but given a bit more of a CTI twist. Most tunes are quite long and free-flowing – and titles include "Lucky Southern", "Flora's Song", "Creek (Arroio)", and "Return To Forever". LP, Vinyl record album
(Recent non-gatefold reissue.)

✨✧ Chick CoreaSecret Agent ... LP
Polydor, 1978. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A sweet little set from Chick Corea – one that's got a bit of a Return To Forever vibe at times, but maybe taken down into tighter territory overall – which makes for pure jazz funk greatness throughout! Some tunes have a nice sense of groove – the choppy fusion of RTF, but more focused, and providing a great bump at the bottom for Chick to solo over the top – on Fender Rhodes, clavinet, and piano – with help from Joe Farrell on a variety of reeds, Bunny Brunel on bass, and Airto on percussion! There's a small bit of vocals on the set, but Chick's keys are the main star – and titles include "Slinky", "Drifting", "Glebe St Blues", "Fickle Funk", "Bagatelle 4", and "Hot News Blues". ✨✧ Chick CoreaPiano Improvisation Vol 1 ... CD
ECM, 1971. Used ... Out Of Stock
Chick Corea's almost borrowing a page from the ECM book of Keith Jarrett here – working in a solo acoustic piano mode that's incredibly fluid and free – filled with warm touches that stand in really stark contrast to his more avant-leaning keyboard styles of a few years before! The tunes are often built around a simple structure, but are extremely compelling – themes that often have the bracing humanity of some of Corea's first work on the Return To Forever records, even though they're served up here in spare solo piano versions. Titles include the extended "Where Are You Now" suite, plus "Noon Song", "Song For Sally", "Ballad For Anna", and "Song Of The Wind". CD
Also available Piano Improvisations Vol 1 ... LP 19.99
