John McLaughlinBelo Horizonte ... LP
Warner, 1981. Very Good+ ... $6.99
Beautiful later work from guitarist John McLaughlin – a record that moves heavily into a Brazilian-inspired vibe – not necessarily in the actual style of the music, but more in the sunny spirit that embraces the whole session! The album was recorded in Paris with airy backing that includes keyboards by Katia Labeque and Francois Couturier, saxes from Francois Jeanneau, and guest guitar from Paco De Lucia – but the overall direction of the set is fiercely dominated by McLaughlin's fluid work on acoustic guitar, still standing strong here even with the electric touches in the instrumentation. Titles include "Waltz For Katia", "La Baleine", "Very Early (For Bill Evans)", "One Melody", "Belo Horizonte", and "Stardust On Your Sleeve". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has a promo stamp, light wear, and hype sticker.)

✨✧ Pedro Iturralde with Paco DeLuciaJazz Flamenco Vols 1 & 2 ... CD
EMI/Vampi Soul (Spain), 1967/1968. New Copy Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of the greatest jazz experiments in 60s Spain – classic material that features the group of saxophonist Pedro Iturralde working with electric guitar played in a fluid flamenco style – mixed up here in a mode that really creates a whole new genre unto itself! The guitarist here is billed as Paco De Algeciras, but is actually a young Paco DeLucia – a player who really gets the boldness of Iturralde's experiments, and is more than happy to step aside at points and let Pedro deliver some of his best solo work on record – really tremendous lines on both tenor and soprano sax that seem to go past any of the other 60s albums we've heard from him! Yet the guitar is wonderful too – often given a space to break out on its own, in a mode that's so personal and poetic, it adds yet a whole other unexpected level to the record. Rhythms are often modal, working perfectly for the setting – and the group also features Paul Grassel on piano, Eric Peter on bass, and Peer Wyboris on drums – plus a bit of trombone from Dino Piana on a few tracks too. CD features both Jazz Flamenco and Jazz Flamenco Vol 2, released in '67 and '68: titles include "Zorongo Gitano", "Cafe De Chintas", "Soleares", "Ianda Jaleoi", "Bulerias", "Adios Granada", "Homenaje A Granados", and "Las Morillas De Jaen". ✨✧ Al Di MeolaElegant Gypsy ... LP
Columbia, 1977. Sealed ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A set that features Al DiMeola moving into some very dynamic territory – jamming out heavy on a mix of electric and acoustic guitars, with additional help from Paco DeLucia on acoustic at points. The instrumentation also features heavy electric piano from Jan Hammer, other keyboards from Barry Miles, bass from Anthony Jackson, and drums from Steve Gadd and Lenny White – all fusion powerhouse players who really take over the groove at times, but still leave enough room on the record for some gentler sounds from Paco and Al. Titles include "Elegant Gypsy Suite", "Flight Over Rio", "Midnight Tango", and "Race With Devil On Spanish Highway". LP, Vinyl record album
(Still sealed! Cover has a cutout hole in the corner.)
