✨✧ Miles Davis & Michel LegrandDingo ... LP
Warner (Germany), 1990. Sealed ... Out Of Stock
A beautiful later album from Miles Davis – and a tremendous collaboration with composer Michel Legrand, in a set that returns Miles to the French soundtrack tradition he first started back in the late 50s! Some of the tracks here are quite spare – the kind of moody, ethereal solo moments that Miles still does better than most folks at this point in time – and other numbers feature fuller musical backings that echo some of the older Legrand soundtrack flair, but which come off with a slightly more contemporary approach too. Chuck Findley also handles some of the trumpet solos on the album – so all the musings here are not Miles' alone – and titles include "The Departure", "The Arrival", "The Dream", "Paris Walking I", "Going Home", "The Jam Session", and "Club Entrance". LP, Vinyl record album
(Indie store exclusive red vinyl. Still sealed with hype sticker.)

Warner/Rhino (France), Late 80s/Early 90s. Used 5CD ... Out Of Stock
The final recordings of Miles Davis – and music that shows that the legendary trumpeter was still continuing to grow strongly in his later years! The set features a great scope of sounds – from soundtrack projects with Marcus Miller and Michel Legrand, a live tribute to Gil Evans recorded with Quincy Jones, other excellent live material, and some important records that show the late Davis embracing new rhythms of the 80s, in the same way he worked with funk, soul, and rock styles in the 70s! Includes the albums Tutu, Music From Siesta, Amandla, Dingo, Doo Bop, Miles & Quincy Live At Montreux, and Live Around The World – plus a final CD collecting rarities and guest appearances with Cameo, Kenny Garrett, Chaka Khan, Shirley Horn, and others. ✨✧ Michel LeGrandLeGrand Jazz (Columbia) ... LP
Columbia, 1959. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
The classic meeting of the great French arranger/pianist with American jazz players like Miles Davis, Ben Webster, Milt Hinton, Donald Byrd, Hank Jones, and others. The tracks are a beautiful strident blend of Legrand's best arranging styles, and they show his keen talent for letting the soloist step forth into the spotlight, while complicated orchestrations swirl all around him. The titles are mostly jazz standards, but they're done in a great way, with lots of punch, and lots of great work by all the players. Titles include "Round Midnight", "Night In Tunisia", "Nuages", "In A Mist", and "Django". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Miles DavisFacets No 1 ... LP
CBS, 1956/1958/1962. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Import collection of some more obscure Miles moments from the late 50s Columbia years! There's 4 tracks recorded with the orchestra of Michel Legrand – and players that include Coltrane, Phil Woods, Jerome Richardson, and Bill Evans: "Jitterbug Waltz", "Round Midnight", "Wild Man Blues", and "Django". 2 tracks from a recording by the Brass Ensemble Of The Jazz & Classical Music Society, one led by John Lewis, the other by Gunther Schuller, are surprisingly wonderful – very much in the mode of Miles' work with Gil Evans, with a similar glistening sound on Miles' trumpet, and warm chromatic washes of sound underneath to provide the perfect soloing vehicle. And there are 4 numbers, a pair each from the Coltrane/Garland incarnation of the quintet, "Sweet Sue" & "Budo", and a transitional sextet from 1962, "Devil May Care" & "Blue Xmas". VariousNouvelle Vague – Les Musiques De Films 1957 to 1962 (3CD set) ... CD
Fremeaux & Associates (France), Late 50s/Early 60s. New Copy 3CD ... $19.99 29.98
That's Miles Davis and Jeanne Moreau on the cover – and image is a perfect summation of what makes this period in film music so unique! The set brings together music from the French new wave of the late 50s and early 60s – a time when revolutionary directors were putting fresh new images on screen, and also turning to lots of new ideas for their music, too – using jazz musicians like Miles to create some of their soundtracks, and also moving past some of the more overblown orchestral styles that had dominated most of the world of film scores during the postwar years. Much of the work used by these directors was in a style that was closer to the people, and more fitting for the sorts of themes in the films – and this 3CD collection features a wonderful array of different modes from the period. Many films are included here with a few selections from their famous soundtracks – and the 3CD package includes work from Tires Sur Le Pianiste (Shoot The Piano Player) by Georges Delerue, A Bout De Souffle (Breathless) by Marial Solal, L'Eau A La Bouche by Serge Gainsbourg, A Double Tour by Paul Misraki, Les Liaisons Dangereuxes by Art Blakey with Barney Wilen, La Tete Contre Les Murs by Maurice Jarre, Le Bel Age by Georges Delerue, Les Bonnes Femmes by Paul Misraki, Jules Et Jim by Georges Delerue, Lola by Michel Legrand, Les 400 Coups (400 Blows) by Jean Constantin, Une Femme Est Une Femme by Michel Legrand, Zazi Dans Le Metro by Fiorenzo Carpi, Ascenseur Pour L'Echafaud by Miles Davis, and Cleo De 5 A 7 by Michel Legrand.
