✨✧ Pharoah SandersHarvest Time/Love Will Find A Way (2024 Record Store Day Release) ... 7-inch
India Navigation/Luaka Bop, 1977. New Copy (pic cover)... $16.99 17.99
A totally great slice of 70s work from Pharoah Sanders – a rare Japanese single that offers radio edits of two tracks from his sublime project for India Navigation! "Harvest Time" is wonderful – this hypnotic bassline, watery light guitar lines, and a raspy, soulful tenor solo from Sanders that's completely fantastic! "Love Will Find A Way" has this romping conga and bassline dancing together – building with modal energy wrapped around a guitar line that snakes in the background – while these really soulful vocals make the tune sparkle before Pharoah comes in for a solo! (Funky 45's, Jazz) 7-inch, Vinyl record

Pharoah SandersPharoah (2CD box set – with bonus tracks) ... CD
India Navigation/Luaka Bop, 1977. New Copy 2CD ... $27.99 29.99
One of the most fantastic Pharoah Sanders albums – and one that we'd rate head and shoulders above most of his other work! You rarely see this one, which is a shame, because it's not only a beautiful spiritual masterpiece, but it's also got a sound that's very unique, and a nice shift from the Impulse records too! Pharoah's playing with a small group that includes instrumentation you don't usually hear on his albums – like organ and guitar – but the addition of these instruments is used in a way that augments Pharoah's spiritual style, not suppresses it – in a lineup that includes guitar from Munoz, organ from Jiggs Chase, bass from Steve Neil, drums from Greg Bandy, and percussion from Lawrence Killian – all very unusual players, which furthers the unusual sound of the album! Pharoah vocalizes a bit on a version of "Love Will Find A Way" that has a warm spacey groove, and a nice conga base – and the other tracks on the LP are "Harvest Time" and "Memories Of Edith Johnson". This beautiful package also includes rare material added to the album – two long live takes of "Harvest Time", a tremendous track that features Khalid Moss on electric piano and Pharoah stretching out in Teresa Records soulful modes – plus great notes as well! CD
(2CD deluxe box set – with 64-page booklet! LPs come in 5" square sleeves, with artwork, inside a slipcover – and the booklet is great!)
Also available Pharoah (2LP box set – with bonus tracks) ... LP 51.99

✨✧ Chet Baker & Lee KonitzChet Baker & Lee Konitz In Concert ... LP
India Navigation, 1982. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A late concert from Chet, reunited here with Lee Konitz for a live set that's a lot more free-thinking than some of their classic recordings in the 50s! The pair are supported by Michael Moore on bass and Beaver Harris on drums – but the overall style of the recording is quite spare, with Chet and Lee moving around each other with a lot of room, on a set of longer tracks that include "This Is Always", "Just Friends", "Walkin", "There Will Never BE Another You", and "Airegin". ✨✧ Clarinet SummitClarinet Summit – In Concert At The Public Theater ... LP
India Navigation, 1984. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A genius idea – almost like the World Sax Quartet, but even more groundbreaking, in that the group unites 2 older players (Alvin Batiste and Jimmy Hamilton) with 2 younger players from the forefront of modern jazz (John Carter and David Murray). The result is wonderful – a record that will forever change your expectations of the sound of the clarinet in jazz, and which shows that reed work from a variety of generations can be equally influential across a variety of scenes. Titles include "Clariflavors", "Groovin High", "Sticks & Bones", "Sweet Lovely", and "The Washington Square Park Episode". LP, Vinyl record album

One of the number of great, post-Coltrane sides Chico would cut for India Navigation, with a searching quality that you might anticipate from the title. The group includes John Hicks, Cecil McBee, Billy Hart and fellow former AACM member Famoudou Don Moye. Titles include Horace Silver's "Peace", McBee's "Close to You Alone", plus "A Child is Born", "Autumn in New York", and "It Never Entered My Mind". LP, Vinyl record album

Cecil McBeeMusic From The Source ... LP
Enja (Germany), 1977. Near Mint- ... $69.99
One of the few albums issued as a leader by bassist Cecil McBee – and like all of the rest, a really amazing record that showcases the visionary talent that often made McBee such a key part of other folks' groups! The tracks are long and spiritual, but with slight avant leanings – and Cecil both plucks and bows his instrument, creating a masterful leadership to a group that includes Chico Freeman on flute and tenor, Joe Gardner on trumpet, Dennis Moorman on piano, Don Moye on drums, and Steve McCall on percussion – definitely a strong AACM influence in the lineup but with some of the soulful warmth that you'd expect more from a set on India Navigation. The performance was recorded at Sweet Basil – and includes 2 long tracks – "Agnez" and "First Song In The Day" – plus the shorter "God Spirit". LP, Vinyl record album
(70s US pressing on Inner City. Cover looks nice, with minimal wear.)
