Beastie BoysIn Sound From Way Out! (2LP version) ... LP
Grand Royal/Universal (France), 1996/1998. New Copy (reissue)... About October 27, 2017
Sweeeeet vinyl reissue of the long out o' print Beasties instrumental release. Even at their weakest vocal moments, we've always dug the Beastie Boys' firm committment to funky instrumental backing. Their albums are filled with lots of nice interludes, instrumentals, and backing grooves that always seem to get buried amidst all of the tracks with vocals. Now, this excellent collection brings together some of their best tracks in this genre, for an album that's got the sound of a lost jazz organ session, with lots of weird twists and turns thrown in. The set's a cool bit of instrumental funk with a very classic production feel, and a modern committment to the funky break. Every track's a winner, and titles include "Groove Holmes", "Sabrosa", "In 3's", "Bobo On the Corner", and "Shambala", plus bonus tracks "Namaste" and "Lighten Up". LP, Vinyl record album

BeatnutsMilk Me ... LP
Penalty, 2004. Sealed 2LP ... $9.99
A nice set from the Beatnuts – still bangin' after all these years! Bass rattlin', hand clappin', bottom heavy beaters made the Nuts' name – and the skills are still in tact. Les & Juju aren't out to re-invent the wheel here, they're just out to lay down a funky ass, propulsive gem – and they deliver! Tracks include "Find Us" with Akon, "Hot" with Greg Nice, "U Nomsayin" feat Freeway, "We Don't Give A Funk", "We Gettin' Paper" with Tripe Seis & Gab Goblin, "Freak Off" with Chris Chandler, "Buggin'" with Prince Whipper Whip and more. Black By DemandCan't Get Enough (voc, inst)/All Rapper's Give Up (voc, inst, acapella) ... 12-inch
Tommy Boy, 1988. Near Mint- (pic cover)... $9.99
Nice late-80's mid-tempo production, similar to Stezo, and if you look closely enough, you'll see Paul C's name in the credits, though you can probably hear his touch on the console in the mix anyway. One of the many MC's who put out one or two dope 12"'s on Tommy Boy then, unfortunately, just disappeared. 12-inch, Vinyl record

Emanon (Aloe Blacc & Exile)Dystopia (colored vinyl pressing – with bonus flexi-single) ... LP
Dirty Science, 2017. New Copy ... $13.99 19.98
The return of Aloe Blacc & Exile's duo project Emanon – a long-time, if infrequent underground partnership we've always dug – and it's all the more rewarding that they're keeping it going so strongly on an independent level even after Aloe's mainstream success! Aloe sings in Emanon, but lest we forget, his roots in independent hip hop are strong and true, and he's rhyming here with the hunger of an up-and-comer, and with a soulful, social and spiritual depth. Exile's timeless production is on point, too. Nice to have these guys back together! Includes "Make It Over", "Aloe Be Thy Name", "COCA", "Cashius King", "Shine Your Light, "Yesterday" feat Blu, "Death Is Fair", "Stalkers", "The END" and more. LP, Vinyl record album
(LP comes with a bonus flexi single with the bonus track "So Different".)

✨✧ FatnicePeace Love Unity & Havin Fun (Lil' Dave Fun Size mix, Windy City mix)/My Favorite Things (Buscates Vibrate mix) ... 7-inch
Record Breakin, 2014. Sealed (pic cover)... $4.99
Not a cover of the Afrika Bambaataa classic of the same name – although the cut does borrow the chorus for its own – and instead some mighty fresh work from Fatnice, set to some crackling cosmic beats! Our favorite is the stripped-down "windy city mix", which has a brasness the Lil Dave mix is missing – and the flipside features Fatnice's own take on the concept of "Favorite Things" – served up with this true school vibe that should make him huge, if the world has any sense of justice! (Funky 45's, Hip Hop) 7-inch, Vinyl record

J Dilla (Jay Dee)Donuts ... LP
Stones Throw, 2005. New Copy 2LP ... $18.99
The classic batch of instrumentals from J Dilla – one that strongly transcends the hip hop genre – and perhaps his rawest, and most adventurous listening experience ever! The loopy soul samples, rich synth/electro shine, and thumping bass and soul beats that Dilla largely made his name on are laced throughout, but he also takes things a step into stranger territory – with spacey elements that buzz as much as they groove! The cuts are never less than soulful and funky, and never really steps into his peer Madlib's brand of the weeded out style, either. We love how raw this all feels, too! It's easily identifiable as the work of Jay Dee, but at the same time, wholly unpredictable! One of the best releases that Stone's Throw ever released – instrumental or vocal! Includes "Donuts (Intro & Outro)", "Workinonit", "Waves", "Light My Fire", "People", "Mash", "Airworks", "Lightworks", "Stepson Of The Clapper", "One Eleven", "Don't Cry", "Geek Down", "Thunder", "Gobstopper", "Walkinonit", "U-Love", "Last Donut Of The Night" and more. Biz MarkieBiz Never Sleeps ... LP
Cold Chillin/Warner, 1989. Very Good ... $16.99
Biz's second LP from 1989 – what can we tell you about the Biz that you don't already know? As far as we're concerned there's a lot of MC's that could learn a lesson or two from the Biz, and producers too. Good time middle school hip hop, with nice sample based production and a great sense of humor, that makes us nostalgic for the late 80s early 90s glory days of hip hop. 13 tracks in all, with the cuts "Spring Again", "Just A Friend", "A Thing Named Kim", "The Dragon", "Things Get A Little Easier", "I Hear Music", "Biz In Harmony", "Check It Out" and more. LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing. Cover has light wear and label has a bit of marker.)

Crash CrewCrash Crew ... LP
Sugar Hill, 1984. New Copy (reissue)... $6.99
One of the greatest hip hop acts from the early days of Sugar Hill – but a group who don't often get the same sort of cred as the label's bigger names at the time! The Crash Crew have a youthful energy that really lives up to their name – a loose approach to rhyme that sounds especially live on the longer tracks on the album – mixes with a more tuneful style at times that almost prefaces the growth of the genre in years to come! "Breaking Bells" and "We Want To Rock" both have a massive South Bronx party feel – and other cuts include "Scratching", "On The Radio", and "We Are Known As Emcees". LP, Vinyl record album

Deantoni ParksTechnoself ... LP
Leaving, 2015. Near Mint- ... $11.99
A stunner from drummer and all around atmospheric beats master Deantoni Parks – who has worked as a drummer for a very impressive list of stars (none of whom we'll name here, because Deantoni gets all the props from us) – but left to his own creative devices, he's crafted one of best beathead instrumental efforts from the Stones Throw/Leaving Records universe in years! First and foremost, the man is an incredible drummer. His drums are performed and produced live – without overdubs or loops – but armed with a sampler, he curates and assembles the battery of propellant beats in infinitely expressive ways. Fellow creative spirit Carlos Nino has a hand in the sequence of excerpted beats here – and the record is a real knockout! Titles include "Black Axioms", "Our Shadows", "Down", "Graphite", "Ashes", "Methodist", "Pebble", ""Bombay", "Orbit Maximus" and more. (New Grooves, Hip Hop) LP, Vinyl record album

J Cole2014 Forest Hills Drive (with download) ... LP
Columbia/Roc Nation, 2015. New Copy 2LP ... $23.99 24.98
A soul-searching effort from J Cole! 2014 Forest Hills Drive is named after the address of his NC childhood home, which is crystal clear clue of the introspective nature here – but it's got fresh, head-nodding hip hop soul production that carries it over all the more strongly. Solidly introspective, but broadly appealing, too – with some strong production by J Cole himself – and the titles include "January 28", "Wet Dreamz", "A Tale Of 2 Citiez", "Fire Squad", "GOMD", "St Tropez", "Hello", "No Role Modelz", "Apparently", "Love Yourz", "Note To Self" and more. Jay-ZAmerican Gangster ... CD
Roc-A-Fella, 2007. Used ... $2.99
A recommitted Jay-Z is back on his game with American Gangster – referencing the '07 film in spots, but this is no soundtrack – it's a return to solid hip hop from the biggest name in the game! American Gangster takes a couple minutes to get rolling, but once the hard hitting "Hello Brooklyn 2.0"w/Lil' Wayne hits the speakers you know well that the ruler's back! Nothing on the perceived soft comeback album Kingdom Come approaches the deft wordplay on AG – and the beats are solid, and not at all geared for the pop charts or beer commercials. Diddy, along with partners LV & Sean C handle around half of all the beats, and it's good stuff. For real. Titles include "Pray", "American Dreamin'", "Sweet", "I Know", "Roc Boys (And The Winner Is)", the killer "Success" feat Nas (produced by No ID), "Fallin'" and more. Plus 2 bonus tracks "Blue Magic" and "American Gangster" CD
