✨✧ BeatnutsMilk Me ... LP
Penalty, 2004. Sealed 2LP ... $9.99
A nice set from the Beatnuts – still bangin' after all these years! Bass rattlin', hand clappin', bottom heavy beaters made the Nuts' name – and the skills are still in tact. Les & Juju aren't out to re-invent the wheel here, they're just out to lay down a funky ass, propulsive gem – and they deliver! Tracks include "Find Us" with Akon, "Hot" with Greg Nice, "U Nomsayin" feat Freeway, "We Don't Give A Funk", "We Gettin' Paper" with Tripe Seis & Gab Goblin, "Freak Off" with Chris Chandler, "Buggin'" with Prince Whipper Whip and more. Tommy Boy, 1991. Very Good ... $9.99
Fantastic 12" with soooo many different mixes of this fantastic De La song. Enough stuff to make up a full-length "Saturdays" suite, really, with lots of cool bits and very different takes on the same song. 12-inch, Vinyl record
(Promo in a Tommy Boy sleeve.)

DJ QuikQuik Is The Name (with download) ... LP
Profile/Legacy, 1991. New Copy (reissue)... $18.99 20.98
DJ Quik's classic debut – arguably one sturdiest records bridging the first wave of the LA gangsta rap era to the G Funk era of the early-to-mid 90s – and definitely one of the tighter and most focused albums of its kind around that time, when rap records were getting largely getting a little too padded with skits and filler. This one's lean and mean and really earns it's slow-building critical legacy. With "Sweet Black P***y", "Born & Raised In Compton", "Tha Bombudd", "Quik Is The Name", "Loked Out Hood", "Quik's Groove", "Tear It Off", "I Got That Feelin'" and "Skanless". LP, Vinyl record album
(Certified Undisputed Classics Of Hip Hop & R&B series!)

Fat JonTephlon Funk (with manga booklet) ... LP
Ample Soul, 2016. New Copy ... $15.99
A brilliant blast of instrumentals from the mighty Fat Jon – his masterful, soul-infused soundscapes crafted for the hip hop-inspired manga comic of the same name! Headnodding beats, swirling atmosphere fusion funk keyboards are a constant, and never leaning to hard on classic soul cinema/Blaxploitation style sounds that often go into work like this – really wonderful stuff from a producer we've admired for years! Includes "Formulation", "Facts Is Facts (Actualize)", "Isolation", "Then", "What Went Wrong", "Realization", "A Scape Theme", "Love Me (Say Nasty)", "Sins" and "Slender Rose". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes manga comic!)

FatnicePeace Love Unity & Havin Fun (Lil' Dave Fun Size mix, Windy City mix)/My Favorite Things (Buscates Vibrate mix) ... 7-inch
Record Breakin, 2014. Sealed (pic cover)... $4.99
Not a cover of the Afrika Bambaataa classic of the same name – although the cut does borrow the chorus for its own – and instead some mighty fresh work from Fatnice, set to some crackling cosmic beats! Our favorite is the stripped-down "windy city mix", which has a brasness the Lil Dave mix is missing – and the flipside features Fatnice's own take on the concept of "Favorite Things" – served up with this true school vibe that should make him huge, if the world has any sense of justice! (Funky 45's, Hip Hop) 7-inch, Vinyl record

MED/Blu/MadlibTurn Up EP ... LP
Fat Beats, 2017. New Copy ... $11.99 12.98
We're always happy to see the names MED, Blu & Madlib turn up – and this tight EP represents their legacies proudly, separately and as a trio! Madlib's distinctive craft is on full display in the beats. He has an inimitable way of layering anthemic funky soul bedrock with unpredictable beatcraft, a deep, rumbling bass sound, and bits of sampled strings and other touches that pluck at the emotions while still sounding raw and gritty. Whether the top shelf rhymes are inspired by the beats, vice versa, or a little of both is ripe for discussion, but this is wholly solid work from all parties. Includes the title track with Oh No, "Jungles" feat Black Shakespeare, "House Keys", "Even Though" and "Wonderful" – plus both the instrumental and acapella versions "The Turn Up" and "Jungles" on the flip/ LP, Vinyl record album

Paul White & Danny BrownAccelerator (vocal, inst)/Lions Den (vocal, inst) ... 12-inch
R&S (UK), 2017. New Copy ... $6.99
A frenetic couple of tracks from producer Paul White and eccentric MC Danny Brown – even bolder than their work together on the Atrocity Exhibition LP! "Accelerator" is a manic, energetic jam that lives up to the name – Danny Brown somehow keeping up with spacey, propellent production – no easy task! You can't not hone in on Danny's vocals when he's on the mic, but the you can hear just how brilliant Paul's production is on the included instrumental. "Lion's Den" takes a slightly more measured approach, but it's an exciting track, too. 12-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ J Cole2014 Forest Hills Drive ... CD
Columbia/Roc Nation, 2014. Used ... $6.99
A soul-searching effort from J Cole! 2014 Forest Hills Drive is named after the address of his NC childhood home, which is crystal clear clue of the introspective nature here – but it's got fresh, head-nodding hip hop soul production that carries it over all the more strongly. Solidly introspective, but broadly appealing, too – with some strong production by J Cole himself – and the titles include "January 28", "Wet Dreamz", "A Tale Of 2 Citiez", "Fire Squad", "GOMD", "St Tropez", "Hello", "No Role Modelz", "Apparently", "Love Yourz", "Note To Self" and more.
