Unpretentiously excellent beatcraft from Chicago's Fess Grandiose – it's NOT all in the name, Fess delivers an instrumentals LP that's great in ways that are understated and easygoing rather than lofty or bombastic – and mesmerizing all the way. Fess is a veteran of the Chicago live beat scene, hosting and playing at showcases and residencies in clubs and house parties that thrive on spontaneity. Crafting album length listening experiences is such a different game than playing to the heads in the room, it's really impressive how solidly Fess succeeds in both realms. He builds up from a compelling beat, often with a bit soul jazzy keyboard atmosphere and subtle vocal samples, from there taking things wherever he wants to go, be it minimalist head nodding instrumental hip hop or a looser, kind of dreamier vibe. Impressive stuff! Includes "Son Shine", "All Dope People", "Cicero", "Stepout", "Jaded...", "Good Steez", "Waaataaa", "Loose Groove", "Here For You", "Thai Food From Chinatown", "Mood Groove", "Escape To LA", "Bang", "Kimball Hose" and more.
