VariousPeanut Butter Wolf Presents – Stones Throw Ten Years (plus bonus mix CD) ... CD
Stones Throw, 1990s/2000s. Used 2 CDs ... $7.99
A great 2CD set of some of the best underground hip hop, deep funk and hazy leftfield jazz groove of the past decade on Stones Throw – compiled by Peanut Butter Wolf from the first 10 years of releases put out by his mightily influential label – some of which is appearing on CD for the first time ever! The well chosen tracklist is a wonderful overview of the far-reaching, but still strangely connected sounds Stones Throw has gifted us with over the years. You get the work of relative superstar projects led by J Dilla & Madlib, the anything goes jazzy soul sounds from Aloe Blacc and Dudley Perkins, straighter hip hop from MED, atmospheric digital grooves from Kousik, hard hitting funky soul from Stark Reality and Co-Real Artists, and so much more! The first retrospective of what we hope will be more decades of Stones Throw to come! 25 tracks in disc 1: "The Red" by Jaylib, "In Your Area" by Peanut Butter Wolf feat Planet Asia, "Low Class Conspiracy" by Quasimoto, "America's Most Blunted" by Madvillain, "Two Can Win" by J Dilla, "Take Me" by Fabulous Souls, "What About You" by Co-Real Artists, "Move Pt 2" by Oh No feat J Dilla & Roc C, "The Payback" by Madlib, "Falling" by Dudley Perkins, "Sunrays" by Yesterdays New Quintet, "Arrive" by Aloe Blacc, "Whenimondamic" by Lootpack, "Comrades & Dreams" (PB Wolf mix) by Stark Reality and more! Disc 2 is a bangin' hour long mix set featuring many of the above mentioned titles – and more from the Stones Throw vault – spun by DJ J Rocc! CD

Beat Konducta (Madlib)Beat Konducta Vol 1 – Movie Scenes ... LP
Stones Throw, 2005. New Copy ... $16.99 17.99
A platter of Madlib beats – the first in a series of instrumental hip hop from 'Lib's Beat Konducta (formerly Beat Conductor) moniker! Madlib's production work has always had a filmic groove, and this set collects and assembles the most cinematic of said beats into an (unsurprisingly) incredible 2-sided piece. The soundscapes really kind of run the gamut of his hip hop styles – always soulful, and always funky, whether he's rocking a stone funk or an electro-modeled groove. Honestly, how much longer is it going to take for the mainstream to finally catch up with this genius!?! Tracks include "The Comeback (Madlib)", "The Payback (Gotta)", "Face The Sun (Africa)", "Stax (Strings)", "Left On Silverlake (Ride)", "Offbeat (Grooves)","Pyramids (Change)", "Eternal Broadcaster (Authentic)" and more! Stones Throw, 2007. New Copy ... $16.99 17.98
Hazy beatcraft steeped in Indian soundtrack style funk, strings and percussion from the indefatigable Madlib – Volume 3 in the increasingly adventurous and conceptual outings of the Beat Konducta! This time out Madlib, er, Beat Konducta is conducting beats, strings & things from India and/or otherwise East – but the way in which the beats bluntly thump is quintessential Madlib – you know it and love it from the first beat! Grandmilly & ShozaeAdventureland ... LP
Stones Throw, 2018. New Copy ... $16.99 17.99
Soulful and moody Long Island duo hip hop on Stones Throw – Grandmilly on the mic and Shozae on the beats! There's a kind of eerie mood to it, with some really great use of vocal samples throughout, and an approach to the beatcraft that's atmospheric but never too murky – always in service of the forthright rhymes. Grandmilly & Shozae both have been making steady waves in the east coast scene, together and with others, and this the first full length collaboration – and a promising one at that! Includes "Cyber Tech Suits", "Street Life", "Graffiti", "Pleasant Times", "Ferris Wheel", "Army Of Kings", "Alright", "The Man Show", "Chancellor" and "Phillip Lim (Grand Closing)". Homeboy Sandman & EdanHumble Pi EP ... LP
Stones Throw, 2018. New Copy ... $16.99 17.99
A tight EP from indie rap dream duo Homeboy Sandman & Edan – and one we're happy to see out on Stones Throw, too, as it's strongly in the spirit of the label's leftfield hip hop roots! Edan's production here is cool balance of psychedelic synth funk and straightforward compelling beatcraft, such a fine foil for Homeboy Sandman's distinctive flow. It's pretty timeless in the artistry, while unafraid to riff on contemporary cultural shortcomings circa the late twenty-tens – and titles include "Grim Sessions", "The Gut", "Rock & Roll Indian Dance", "Unwavering Mind", "That Moment When...", "#NeverUseTheInternetAgain"and "Evolution Of The Sandman". J Dilla at his grittiest, most rugged & raw – in both the production and rhyme realm – with all beats and rhymes by the Dilla himself! This set originally opened our ears to a different side of Dilla, a harder hitting aesthetic, with beats and grooves from out of leftfield that draw you in and hypnotize. Ruff Draft was originally released as a vinyl only EP for the European market, and it was tough to get ahold of from the get go – so hats off to Stones Throw for giving it the reverent re-release it deserves – fleshed out with bonus tracks! Titles include "Let's Take It Back", "Reckless Driving", "Nothing Like This", "The $", "Make'Em NV", "Crushin'", "Wild" (a previously unreleased track that's nothing short of mindblowing – a minimalist masterpiece), "Take Notice" and more. J Dilla (Jay Dee)Donuts ... LP
Stones Throw, 2005. New Copy 2LP ... $22.99 23.98
The classic batch of instrumentals from J Dilla – one that strongly transcends the hip hop genre – and perhaps his rawest, and most adventurous listening experience ever! The loopy soul samples, rich synth/electro shine, and thumping bass and soul beats that Dilla largely made his name on are laced throughout, but he also takes things a step into stranger territory – with spacey elements that buzz as much as they groove! The cuts are never less than soulful and funky, and never really steps into his peer Madlib's brand of the weeded out style, either. We love how raw this all feels, too! It's easily identifiable as the work of Jay Dee, but at the same time, wholly unpredictable! One of the best releases that Stone's Throw ever released – instrumental or vocal! Includes "Donuts (Intro & Outro)", "Workinonit", "Waves", "Light My Fire", "People", "Mash", "Airworks", "Lightworks", "Stepson Of The Clapper", "One Eleven", "Don't Cry", "Geek Down", "Thunder", "Gobstopper", "Walkinonit", "U-Love", "Last Donut Of The Night" and more. JaylibChampion Sound ... LP
Stones Throw, 2003. New Copy 2LP ... $21.99 22.99
Damn! The MASSIVE collaborative album from the dynamic duo of Madlib and J Dilla! Essentially, Madlib handles the production on the even numbers in the set with Dilla on the vocals, and the roles are reversed on the odd numbers. Each producer does his own thing, as only he can do it – Madlib brings the funky sampler genius – and Dilla rocks the thumping Detroit hip hop soul crunch. A number of guest rhymers step to the mic, including Talib Kweli, Percee P, Frank-N-Dank & Guilty Simpson, and the flow is seamless. Not only was this one of the best hip hop albums of '03, it also has a dyed-in-the-wool classic production style, and it sounds just as great a few years later! So very highly recommended! Tracks include "L.A. To Detroit", "McNasty Filth" with Frank-n-Dank, "Nowadayz", "Champion Sound", "The Red", "Heavy", "Raw S*!t" with Kweli, "The Official", "The Heist", "The Mission", "React" with Quasimodo, "The Exclusive" with Percee P, "Survival Test", "Starz" and "No Games". ✨✧ Madvillain (Madlib & MF Doom)Madvillainy ... CD
Stones Throw, 2004. New Copy ... $8.99 9.98
A Stones Throw sci-fi masterpiece – one that was destined for greatness from conception, but we're still pretty well blown away by the final product! MC Doom and beatmaster Madlib couldn't be better suited for a collaboration. As much as we've dug the best of Doom's material of the last couple years, he's always needed a good editor – and Madlib brings nothing but the best sci-fi sound collages, scratches, and titanically driving funky beats – the grooved out 70s side of 'Lib's personality is wisely given a powder, while in the company of a vocal presence that's as insane as Doom. When it's not so pounding, the sound drops into the kinda gloomy, murky crackle of earliest Wu Tang. This is easily the best album of its kind since Dr. Octagon tore the flood gates open. Essential!!! "The Illest Villains", "Accordian", "Bistro", "Raid" feat Medaphoar, "America's Most Blunted", "Rainbows", "Curls", "Money Folder", "Hardcore Hustle","Fancy Clown", "Supervillain", "All Caps", "Rhinestone Cowboy" and more. Debut EP from Anderson.Paak & Knxwledge – teaming up as the duo NxWorries – with hazy hip hop beatcraft by Knxwledge and unique vocals by Anderson.Paak! Stones Throw, 2016. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... $23.99 24.98
Anderson .Paak and Knxwledge's full length debut as a duo – and the most triumphant Stones Throw record in years! To this (still early) point in young .Paak's career, his voice has already proved to be a prime vessel for natural grit and mood, if not gamechanger songwriting, best paired with crackling, funk-steeped hip hop soul production. That's the case whether he's producing himself, working with a giant like Dr. Dre, or paired as he is here with Knxledge. Knx's production is a perfect backdrop – beats out front in the mix, classic Cali sample funk and soul framing the vocals – with a lingering haze holding it all together amazingly well! Intentional or not, Yes Lawd channels earlier Stones Throw classic LPs like Jaylib and Madvillain in the way it pairs distinctive contemporary talents for a joint duo effort, and after .Paak's solo shot Malibu, it's his second potential classic in a single year! Includes "Livvin", "Wngs", "What More Can I Say", "Kutless", "Lyk Dis", "Can't Stop", "Get Bigger", "Scared Money", "Suede", "Starlite", "Sidepiece", "Jodi", "Link Up", "Another Time", "Fkku" and more. ✨✧ QuasimotoFurther Adventures Of Lord Quas ... CD
Stones Throw, 2005. Used ... $4.99
Lord Quas returns for another batch of booming, mad-blunted hip hop – an even more sprawling, surreal ride than the Unseen LP! Quasimoto was and still is Madlib's outlet for his most cartoonishly eccentric tendencies – and he really lets 'em fly on this set! The Unseen LP had more strains of the smoky jazz vibe of 'Lib's more mature productions – buried underneath the wacky funk and Quas/'Lib's instantly identifiable, hilarious mouthbreather rhymes. This one keeps it surreal throughout – sort of a cross between Madvillain, Prince Paul and a Max Fleischer cartoon – with Melvin Van Peebles dropping in here and there! Tracks include "Bullysh*t", "Greenery", "Crime", "Hydrant Game", "Don't Blank", "Bus Ride", "Bartender Say", "The Exclusive" feat MED, "Closer" feat Madvillain, "Strange Piano", "Life Is. . .", "Tomorrow Never Knows" and more. One of the most unique 45s on Stones Throw in years – and a wax representation of the viral video that's been lighting up the internet – featuring 38-year-old homeless beatboxer Red – The Man Without The Machine! The video showed Red rocking his gritty, hypnotic, G Funk informed rhyme style outside of the HVW8 Gallery. Word spread to Stones Throw, and to ST's own G Funk inspired Dam Funk – who brings in some splintering electro atmosphere to his remix on the flip. Dam Funk is no fool, and he doesn't mess with the Red vocals too much. Inspiring stuff from team Stones Throw, and a single that should fire up the crate diggers as hotly as the viral video busted out. (Funky 45's, Hip Hop) 7-inch, Vinyl record

It's absolutely strong stuff, and to be honest, much better than we would have expected – even if we knew he had great hip hop left in him after some creatively wayward post-millennium years. The beats are compelling, unpredictable, and steeped in abstract global funk that would sound at home on Stones Throw – some of the beats are literally Stones Throw, given Madlib's Beat Konducta and Oh No's Oxperimental sounds to be found. If we weren't already loving it, Slick Rick drops an unforgettable guest appearance on the the moody "Auditorium", Georgia Anne Muldrow does her inimitable thing on "Roses", and Talib Kweli rhymes on "History". Mos rhymes skillfully throughout, and with an infectious immediacy, as if he dropped records this tight all the time. Sadly, he doesn't, so this one's all the more rewarding! Other tracks include "Twilite Speedball", "Revelations", "Pretty Danger", "Quiet Dog", "The Embassy", "Wahid", "Priority" and more. LP, Vinyl record album
