Cash Money & MarvelousWhere's The Party At? ... CD
Sleeping Bag/Traffic, 1988. New Copy ... $6.99 14.98
Maybe the crowning achievement of DJ Cash Money – a sharp DJ from the early Philly scene – and a talent who was every bit as great at the time on as Jazzy Jeff on the wheels of steel! Cash is paired here with Marvelous, an MC whose sense of wit really matches the sharpness of the production on the record – and the album's a classic from a time when the indie underground was starting to burst out again with strong full length albums like this! There's plenty of deft, playful rhymes on the set – and titles include "Find An Ugly Woman", "Play It Kool", "Is It Real", "Time Is Up", "A Real Mutha For Ya", "Marvelous' Drawers", "Ugly People Be Quiet (rmx)", "Ugly People Be Quiet", "The Mighty Hard Rocker", and "The Music Maker". MantronixMusic Madness ... LP
Sleeping Bag/Demon (UK), 1986. New Copy (reissue)... $26.99
The second great album from Mantronix, and one that really has their sound coming together in an amazing way! Mantronik puts together all these amazingly crisp sounds that not only help redefine the edge of hip hop, but also seem prescient for the direction that so many other styles would take in years to come – almost as if he was imagining the future of hip hop and of electronic music at the same time in this set. MC Tee provides the rhymes, and Chep Nunez edits the whole thing with a great ear for all the high spots – on titles that include "Music Madness", "Who Is It", "We Control The Dice", "Electronic Energy Of", "Scream", "Big Band B-Boy", and "Mega Mix". ✨✧ StezoLast Dance ... CD
Blacklife, 2021. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
We lost the mighty Stezo during 2020, but his music lives on in this well-titled final set – a record that really has us surprised at how much strong sounds the 80s hip hop pioneer has to offer! You might know Stezo from his early efforts for Sleeping Bag – and although this set is a bit more contemporary, it's still got this crispness that reminds us of the days when we used to sit up late to catch the local hip hop shows on the left end of the dial – to hear all the underground sounds from the New York scene that were changing the world of modern music! Not that the record's world-changing, but it's a great tribute to one from that generation who's sometimes overlooked – with guest appearances from Biz Markie, Master Ace, Craig G, and Big Daddy Kane – many of whom deliver some "hip hop eulogy" moments on the record. Titles include "Where The Funk At (Chris Lowe rmx)", "Opera House", "Keep The Groove", "It's My Turn 2021", "Bring The Horns", "Just Blaze", and "Ruff N Rugged". CD
