✨✧ Bobby Boris Pickett & The Crypt Kickers/John ZacherleMonster Mash Collection ... CD
Jasmine (UK), Early 60s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Two different takes on the monster rock craze of the 60s – served up here on a single CD! First up is the original Monster Mash album from Bobby Boris Pickett & The Crypt Kickers – one of the all-time classic Halloween novelty records! You might know the classic title cut – one of those tunes that never gets old, and which really blows away all the countless imitators over the years – but there's lots more here to discover, all in Bobby Pickett's cool mix of monster movie vocals and garagey rock and roll! Production is by the legendary Gary Paxton – who almost gives a Kim Fowley twist to some numbers – and in addition to "Monster Mash", titles include "Graveyard Shift", "Blood Bank Blues", "Monster Motion", "Bella's Bash" or the hair raising "Rabian The Fiendage Idol". Next is John Zacherle's album Monster Mash – a set that features Zacherle's competent cover of the hit – but sparkles even more with a host of original material done for the album – tracks written by Kal Mann and Dave Appell, most of which have a cool rock/horror sort of theme – upbeat "Monster Mash"-styled rhythms, with lots of Dracula-inspired vocals from John – a whole album full of groovy novelty tunes that includes some great take-offs on other hits on the Cameo/Parkway label! Titles include the hit "Dinner With Drac (part 1)", plus "Gravy (With Some Cyanide", "Popeye (The Gravedigger)", "Hurry Bury Baby", "Let's Twist Again (Mummy Time Is Here)", "I'm The Ghoul From Wolverton Mountain", and "Weird Watusi". ✨✧ VariousMonsters, Vampires, Voodoos, & Spooks – 33 Slabs Of Undead Rock N Roll ... CD
Jasmine (UK), Late 50s/Early 60s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A hip celebration of all things spooky – pulled from that wonderful late 50s/early 60s stretch when the novelty market was overflowing with rock and soul songs based on Halloween topics! This collection is nicely huge – and while there's a few tracks here you might know from big fame, there's lots more from the the farther reaches of the trash rock underground of the period – very cool cuts that were only issued as singles, maybe just for the Halloween market, then quickly dropped out of sight! The music is a mix of R&B and early rock, with a few other styles thrown in for good measure – and titles include "The Cat" by Chris Kevin, "Frankenstein Rock" by Eddie Thomas, "I Was A Teenage Monster" by The Keytones, "Werewolf" by The Frantics, "Nightmare" by Scottie Stuart, "Voodoo Voodoo" by Lavern Baker, "Rockin In The Graveyard" by Jackie Morningstar, "The Spook Walks" by The Spooks, "The Monsters Hop" by Bert Convy, "She's My Witch" by Kip Tyler, "Frankie & Igor At A Rock N Roll Party" by Bob McFadden, "Little Demon" by Screamin Jay Hawkins, and "Nighmare Hop" by Earl Patterson with The Darts.
