A totally sweet set of grooves from the Africa
n scene of the 70s – and one that's a fair bit different than most of the other collections we've got on our racks! The styles here are a bit more offbeat, and a bit less familiar – not straight Afro Funk, but also not some of the popular genres of the time either – and instead often a compelling fusion of American funk, club, and disco with some very unusual local modes of expression – often with electric instrumentation that can come across in really great ways with weird production – making for unusual sounds on the keyboards and guitars. There's a bit more polish to the work than some of the rougher Afro groovers from the time – but never in a way that's ever too slick, just kind of a European mix of Africa
n roots and 70s funkier styles. 2CD set features all the tracks on the previous vinyl volumes – with titles that include "Give It Up" by Jo Bisso, "Jangolo" by Jo Tongo, "Kag Am" by Kemayo, "Africa Africa
" by Ekambi Brilliant, "Black Gold" by Tala AM, "Father Time Mother Nature" by Jake Sollo, "Choco Date" by Jake Sollo, "Nande" by Africa
n Souls Band, "Mbongui" by M'Bamina, "Na Real Sekele Fo Ya" by Pasteur Lappe, "Don't Do It" by Bongi Makeba, "Get It On The Music" by Bozambo, "Tata Ngoh" by Misse Ngoh, "Toyota Fantasy (John Bryan edit)" by Miriam Makeba, "Piani" by Jo Tongo, "Aboki" by Ekambi Brilliant, and "Kilowi Kilowi" by M'Bamina.
