✨✧ VariousEccentric Soul – Twinight's Lunar Rotation ... CD
Numero, Late 60s/Early 70s. Used 2 CDs ... Out Of Stock
The best look at Chicago's legendary Twinight label that we've ever seen – a massive 2CD set that goes way past the obvious hits, and really digs into the heart and soul of this unique little record company! Twinight is best known as the home of Syl Johnson during his legendary run of funky soul singles at the end of the 60s – but the company was also home to a lot of other great talent during the same stretch – harmony vocal groups, sweet soul singers, funky combos, and more – all of which you'll hear in this incredible little set! (And in fact, the set does such a great job of presenting the other artists on Twinight, that it leaves out Syl Johnson entirely – so the package is a 100% non-Syl set – which is ok with us, because you can always get Johnson's work on other reissues.) The Numero Group have really outdone themselves this time around – using their careful ear to pull out the best lost bits from Twinight, remastered here with wonderful sound – and a brilliant 32 page booklet that tells the story of the label, and also includes loads of vintage photos. The set's a must-have for any fan of quality funk or soul – and the package includes a whopping 40 titles that include "Goin Man Huntin" by Jo Ann Garrett, "I've Made Up My Mind" by Josephine Taylor, "A New Day" by The Notations, "Nevermore" by Renaldo Domino, "Yesterday's Mistakes" by Jimmy Jones, "I'll Always Love You" by Velma Perkins, "Life Walked Out" by Mist, "Put Out The Fire by Mystiques, "You & Me Baby" by Kaldirons, "Rosemarie" by Dynamic Tints, "Remind Me" by Schiller Street Gang, "Is It Meant To Be" by Krystal Generation, "Pardon My Innocent Heart" by Nate Evans, "Package Of Love (part 1)" by Dynamic Tints, "The Devastator" by Stormy, "Mama" by Annette Poindexter, "Pass It On (part 1)" by Pipes Of Peace, "My Sunshine Girl" by Radiants, "Let Me Come Within" by Renaldo Domino, "Soul Strokes" by Sidney Pinchback, and "Can You Find Me Love" by Harrison & The Majestic Kind. ✨✧ VariousEccentric Northern Soul ... LP
Numero, Late 60s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A massive batch of upbeat soul tracks from the Numero side of the universe – material collected from across the many labels and artists they represent, and brought together to make one totally smoking collection of Northern Soul! The approach here is different than others to bear that tag – Numero isn't going for tracks that played big on British soul dancefloors back in the day – and instead, they find the right grooves in their own cuts, and almost create and alternative sort of scene – served up with tracks that include "Too Darn Soulful" by Morris Chestnut, "He's A Flirt" by The Sequins, "That Girl" by Carl Henderson, "How I Need Your Love" by The Extremes, "I'll Be On My Way" by Bob & Fred, "Lift This Hurt" by Elvin Spencer, "That's Alright" by Ed Crook, "Standing By Love" by Eula Cooper, "One Way Ticket To Nowhere" by Syl Johnson, "Tears Don't Care" by Out Of Sights, "Thrills & Chills" by Helene Smith, and "Lighten Up Baby" by Ty Karim. ✨✧ VariousSuper Breaks – Essential Funk, Soul & Jazz Samples and Breakbeats ... LP
BGP/Ace (UK), Late 60s/1970s. New Copy 2LP ... Out Of Stock
Way more than just a typical collection of rare funk and soul – as the selections here not only meet the stunningly high standards of the BGP label – but they've also been sampled in more recent years for hip hop records and other contemporary recordings! Essentially, you've got the best of both worlds – vintage funk from the late 60s and early 70s – brought together in a great collection – and work that's gone onto form the blueprint for contemporary urban sounds as well – which means you'll probably recognize some or part of most of these songs from their use in more contemporary recordings. Nearly every cut's been sampled at least more than once – and titles include "Blind Alley" by The Emotions, "Chick A Boom" by Pazant Brothers, "Eva" by Jean Jacques Perry, "Walk Tall" by Cannonball Adderley, "Baby Let Me Take You In My Arms" by Detroit Emeralds, "Bouncy Lady" by Pleasure, "Tramp" by Lowell Fulson, "Take Yo Praise" by Camille Yarbrough, "Thinking Single" by The Counts, "Different Strokes" by Syl Johnson, "Ike's Mood" by Isaac Hayes, "What A Man" by Linda Lynell, and "Smokey Joe's La La" by Googie Rene. ✨✧ VariousSweet Soul Music 1967 – 30 Scorching Classics ... CD
Bear Family (Germany), 1967. Used ... Out Of Stock
A massive batch of music – and almost as worth it for the overall package as it is for the great tunes inside! Like other volumes in this series, this set is beautifully put together – not only stuffed with an amazing array of classic soul from a key year in the 60s – but also done with a full color booklet that's over 60 pages long – filled with track-by-track notes on the tunes, and filled with great photos, images, and historical data! The whole thing's a perfect soul music time capsule – with the depth of production that we've always loved in Bear Family releases for other genres. Titles include "Are You Lonely For Me" by Freddie Scott, "Eight Men Four Women" by OV Wright, "Dirty Man" by Laura Lee, "Come On Sock It To Me" by Syl Johnson, "Hypnotized" by Linda Jones, "Some Kinda Wonderful" by Soul Brothers Six, "Nothing Takes The Place Of You" by Toussaint McCall, "Baby Please Come Back Home" by JJ Barnes, "Soul Finger" by The Bar-Kays, "Girls Are Yout To Get You" by The Fascinations, "Funky Broadway (part 1)" by Dyke & The Blazers, "Piece Of My Heart" by Erma Franklin, and "I Wanna Testify" by The Parliaments. (Soul, Funky Compilations) CD
