VariousMood Mosaic Vol 16 – Hipsoulover ... LP
Mood Mosaic (Italy), 1970s. New Copy ... $28.99 42.99
One of the coolest entries we've ever seen in this excellent series – a package that's heavy on rare funk tracks from overseas, most of which we're never likely to find on vinyl in our neck of the woods! There's a slinky, sexy groove to most of these cuts – very 70s, with plenty of sweet electric elements, and lots of keyboards too – and although the vocals are part of the sound, the strength of the cuts really lies in the instrumentation – especially on the longer numbers that really take off strongly! Titles include "Puutharassa" by Pekka Streng, "Ombilic Contact" by Atomic Crocus, "Erotica" by Agua Turbia, "Primitivo" by Hareton Salvanini, "September 13" by Deodato, "Dingo" by Olivier Despax, "Animal" by Farm, and "Psychastenie" by Serge Gainsbourg. ✨✧ VariousEspresso Espresso ... CD
Deram (UK), 1996. Used ... Out Of Stock
A fantastic compilation of groovy tracks from the 60's, and one that we've had for years, and never tire of playing! The whole thing was put together by the genius Karminsky Brothers, and the tracks are a swirling mix of Latiny, Bossa-y, Groovy, and Now Sound material – including stuff by Serge Gainsbourg, The Gimmicks, Berry Lipman, Wilson Simonal, Ray Rivera, Roberto Delgado, and others! Two of the biggest highlights include Burt Bacharach's rare beautiful track "Something Big", which is worth the price of the CD alone – and Astrud Gilberto's great version of "Happenings". Very long, with 23 killer tracks, and a gorgeous package, too! Expensive, but one of the best things you'll buy this year! CD
(Out of print, sticker remnant on CD label.)

✨✧ VariousMood Mosaic Vol 1 – The Haschish Party ... CD
Partners In Crime (Italy), Late 60s/Early 70s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A wonderfully groovy set – every bit as great as you might guess from the title and the cover – and the very first installment in the now-legendary Mood Mosaic series! The set's one of the few to bring together tunes from the groovier side of the spectrum at the end of the 60s – work from British, French, American, and German sources – all awash in a great blend of funky, easy, and pop-oriented modes! There's a nicely trippy feel throughout – and titles include "Hascisch Party" by George Garvarenz, "Kiss This" by Claude Denjean, "Acka Raga" by Shocking Blue, "Mas Que Nada" by Luiz Enriquez, "En Melody" by Serge Gainsbourg, "Love For Sale" by Marian McPartland, "Batucada" by Phil Crewe, "Marins Armins Amant Ou Maris" by Michel Legrand, and "Sitar Beat" by Klaus Doldinger. ✨✧ VariousParis In The Spring – Presented By Bob Stanley & Pete Wiggs ... LP
Ace (UK), Late 60s/Early 70s. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
A totally fresh take on French sounds of the late 60s – served up here with a sound that's as revolutionary as the image on the cover! This isn't the dreamy strings of familiar Paris in the Spring – but instead, the sound of change that happened in and around 1968 – as a whole new generation of younger French musicians, singers, artists, and intellectuals were really making themselves known in bold new ways! You'll recognize a few names here – like Serge Gainsbourg or Brigitte Fontaine – but the collection goes way beyond those bigger names, and features loads of obscure artists from the scene that will be a real revelation. The collection was done by the same Saint Etienne team that gave us the excellent English Weather and Songs For The Carnegie Deli compilations on Ace – and titles include "L'Elu" by Ilous & Decuyper, "La Metaphore" by Jacques Dutronc, "Looking For You" by Nin Ferrer, "Chanson D'Un Jour D'Hiver" by Cortex, "Couleurs" by Leonie, "Leslie Simone" by William Sheller, "Litanies" by Triangle, "Baleines" by Francois De Roubaix, "Lileth" by Leonie, "Ystor" by Ys, "Chanson Pour Que Tu M'Aimes U Peu" by France Gall, "Le Victime" by Karl Heinz Schafer, "Les Adventures Extraordinaires D'Un Ballet De Banque" by Bernard Lavilliers, "Helicoptere" by Mireille Darc, "Les Garde Violent Au Secours Du Roi (alt version)" by Jean Claude Vannier, and "La Chanson D'Helene" by Romy Schneider & Michel Piccoli. ✨✧ VariousPsyche France Vol 7 – 1970s ... LP
Warner/Parlophone (France), Early 70s. Sealed ... Out Of Stock
A really cool entry in this ultra-hip series – a volume that moves a bit more into the 70s than previous ones, but still hangs onto all the wonderfully wild touches that makes the music so great! As you'd guess by the "psyche" in the title, there's certainly some psychedelic influences at play here – but the music is also a bit more built up from all those very cool elements that always made the French scene so different than the rest – that mode of the Serge Gainsbourg generation letting their hair down a bit more, picking up their guitars, but also opening the door to influences from jazz and other global music. Most of these cuts aren't really out there on the reissue market in any other format – and titles include "Vole Vole Vole" by Presence, "Donne" by Richard Contell, "D'Un Jour A L'Autre" by Richard Lable, "Neptune" by Michel Ripoche, "Je Suis Julliet" by Edwige, "L'Ile De Paques" by Guy Skornik, "Les Scandales" by Gilbert Deflez, and "Tu As Tape Du Pied" by Jean Yves Lievaux. ✨✧ VariousSpecial Brew – Finders Keepers ... CD
Fat City (UK), Late 60s/Early 70s. Used ... Out Of Stock
A fantastic blend of weird break tracks – in a mode that reminds us of some of those dodgy comps like Dimensions In Sound or Dusty Fingers from a few years ago, but which is put together here in a great all-legit package by the folks at Manchester's Fat City! The track selection is amazing – with a blend of rock, soundtrack, easy, and other styles all united by one factor: all cuts have great funky moments, worth of sampling by any hip hopper, but also just plain great for listening! Titles include "Joyful Grass & Grape" by Dorothy Ashby, "Getting High" by Eddie Warner, "Dance Of The Vampires" by The Vampires of Dartmoor, "April Fool" by Isis, "Yesterday's Folks" by US 69, "English Sparrow" by Paul Parrish, "Karkadon" by The Devil's Anvil, "Freak" by Nino Ferrer, "Hippies" by Serge Gainsbourg, Brigitte Bardot, & Sasha Distel, and "Fall Out" by The Advancement. ✨✧ VariousTrip – Created By Saint Etienne ... CD
Family/Universal (UK), 1970s/2004. Used 2 CDs ... Out Of Stock
A stellar entry in the Trip series – curated this time by effervescent aural groovers Saint Eteinne! Much like the other compilations in the series, the track list is mined from the deep, rich vaults of Universal and subsidiaries – and it's groovy as can be! The set is pretty heavy with the best 70s major soul, by both the biggest stars and the most under-appreciated talents of the era, plus off-kilter groove that no doubt informs the work of the compilers! A mix of 48 tracks on 2 CDs! Disc one includes "Cannibus" by Serge Gainsbourg, "Last Night Changed It All" by Esther Williams, "(A Case Of) Too Much Love Making" by Gloria Scott, "It's Time To Break Down" by the Supremes, "Deus Irae Psychedelico" by Ennio Morricone, "Shooting Star" by Mamas & The Papas, "Lady Orange Peel" by The Attack, "Breakaway" by Ernie Bush and tons more! Disc 2 includes "Like To Get To Know You" by Spanky & Our Gang, "Free From The City" by Poppy Family, "The Radio Song" by Dillard & Clark, "Can't Find The Time" by Orpheus, "Speak Like A Child" by Tim Hardin, "Dark Is The Bark" by the Left Banke, "A Doll's House" by John Barry and lots more!
