✨✧ VariousWest Coast 1957 – Mode Jazz Lounge ... CD
Mode/Muzak (Japan), 1957. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A mighty nice dive into the legendary Mode Records catalog – that short-lived, but fantastic west coast jazz imprint of the 50s – a tiny label who cut some mighty great music during the year 1957! Mode was very much in the spirit of the Bethlehem label of the time, but more west coast overall – and they really helped push the scene's sound further by allowing artists a bit more space on their tunes, longer solos, and looser groups that really helped some of these all-star players shine in the best light possible! And although Mode soon went belly-up after issuing their initial run of records, the label has stayed at the top of the list for any fan of 50s postwar jazz – a legacy that's given great due here in a killer collection of 21 gems from the label. Titles include "Jazz Goes To Siwash" by Mel Lewis Sextet, "You Are Too Beautiful" by Warne Marsh Quartet, "How About You" by Lucy Ann Polk, "Stan Still" by Stan Levey Quintet, "Mediolistic" by Conte Candoli, "Evening In Paris" by Vic Feldman, "Long Ago And Far Away" by Herbie Harper Sextet, "Thou Swell" by Frank Rosolino, "Baubles, Bangles & Beads" by Flute Fraternity (Herbie Mann), "I Hadn't Anyone 'Til You" by Marty Paich Trio, and "Always" by Bobby Troup.
