Throw away your crates and just pack this album under your arm for a gig – and you'll have 16 classic funky tracks to get the party started right! As with other volumes, the focus here is on 70s tracks sampled by hip hoppers during the mid and late 90s – with full sample credits for all tunes, so that you can remember where you remember them from! Titles include "Strollin" by Jack McDuff, "Danube Incident" by Lalo Schifrin, "Born to be Blue" by Jack Bruce, "Lovely Is Today" by Eddie Harris, "Little Lady Maria (skit)" by Ohio Players, "Pastures (skit)" by Ahmad Jamal, "Ready Or Not" by The Delfonics, "Tripping Out" by Curtis Mayfield, "I Can't Stand The Rain" by Ann Peebles, "Vallarta (skit)" by Les McCann, "ET Boogie" by Extra T's, "Sign Song" by Buddy Baker, "American Fruit, African Roots" by Zulema, "Shamboozie" by Bob James, and "The World Is A Place" by Rhythm. LP, Vinyl record album
Better than boosting the Beatnuts crates out of the studio! This set features 31 tracks in all – all tunes used by the Beatnuts for some of their best tracks – all referenced in the titles, too, so you won't spend too much time saying "Hey, I recognize that – what's it the sample for?" Tracks include "The Confined Few" by Booker Ervin, "The Matrix" by Dizzy Gillespie, "Golliwog's Cakewalk" by Tomita, "New Orleans" by The Pazant Brothers, "Easy Answering" by Chris Hinze, "Theme For Losers" by Henry Mancini, "Break That Party" by Melvin Van Peebles, "Sign Song" by Buddy Baker, "Me" by Bob McGraph, "Fueron Tres Anos" by Los Angelos Negros, "Sesame Street Theme" by Blowfly, "Hijack" by Enoch Light, "So It Doesn't Whistle" by R Allen, "Wee Tina" by Donald Byrd, "Never On Sunday" by Roger Maxwell, "Daydream" by Bernard Wystraete, and "Caseine" by Jacques Loussier. LP, Vinyl record album
Second great volume in this excellent series of spare jazzy sample cuts. There's a lot of stuff on here that's got a sort of Tribe Called Quest feel, with nice spare moments, cool warm jazzy grooves, and nice instrumental passages. Sounds great as a rare funk comp, but with the added bonus of being a huge source of rare sample cuts. Tracks include "Laying The Trap" from the Gator Soundtrack, "Soul Sides" by Art Farmer, "Ripped Open By Metal Explosions" by Galt MacDermot, "Bettina" by Bola Sete, "Electric Surfboard" by Jack McDuff, and "Snow Creatures" by Quincy Jones. Great stuff, with 16 hard to find cuts! CD
An excellent selection of funky tunes that have been sampled for hip hop tracks! The set used to be called Pete's Treats – because all of these cuts were sampled by Pete Rock – but Pete got mad at that, so they've retitled the package for the CD release. Still the same great sound, though – and the set includes 28 cuts in all, with many great numbers that we don't carry on other reissues! Titles include "From This Day On" by Eddie Bo, "Bubble Gum" by The 9th Creation, "Freedom Dance" by Eugene McDaniels, "Cameo" by Eddy Senay, "Today" by Tom Scott, "Where Do I Go" by Alyn Ainsworth, "Soul Girl" by Judy Foster, "Don't Change Your Love" by the 5 Stairsteps, "Gimme Some" by Freddie McCoy, "Bootleggin" by Simtec & Wylie, "Groovy Situation" by Mel & Tim, "I Got Soul" by Bama, "Capricorn" by Cannonball Adderley, and "Expo 83" by Backyard Heavies. Lots lots more, and a great set of tracks! CD
