Broomfield Corporate JamStop/Doin It Our Way ... 7-inch
Athens Of The North (UK), Late 70s. New Copy ... $12.99
Hardly the corporate record you'd guess from the name – and instead a fantastic funk track from the 70s underground! There's a cool descending vibe to the rhythm – which contrasts nicely with the soaring vocals of the group! "Doin It Our Way" follows with an equally upbeat sound – a leadoff sax solo over upbeat rhythms, and great lead vocals by a strongly-voiced female singer! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Cool CreationsWish Upon Love/Nightime On The Beach Island ... 7-inch
Athens Of The North (UK), Mid 70s. New Copy (reissue)... $9.99
The Cool Creations are definitely a group who live up to their name – working here on "Wish Upon Love" with this groove that's complicated, yet completely seductive too! The rhythms change in this nicely sophisticated way, and set things up with a nice edge – which then gets warmed up by the beautiful vocals of the tune! The flipside is pretty great, too – begins with the sound of ocean waves, then moves into this excellent slow-stepping groove that blends sweet trumpet with a watery guitar line – and even some cool moogy moments as the instrumental moves on! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Jukka Eskola Soul TrioIntroducing The Soul Trio/Martha's New Moment ... 7-inch
Timmion (Finland), 2017. New Copy ... $8.99
A hard-hitting romper from trumpeter Jukka Eskola – a tune that has the trumpeter working with the well-named Soul Trio – in a groove that feels like some lost jukebox jazz single from the 60s, with the trumpet popping nicely alongside a soaring Hammond! "Martha's New Moment" begins with a great drumbreak, the rolls into more great organ – all very 60s overall, and capped with a cool compressed solo from Jukka! 7-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ FatnicePeace Love Unity & Havin Fun (Lil' Dave Fun Size mix, Windy City mix)/My Favorite Things (Buscates Vibrate mix) ... 7-inch
Record Breakin, 2014. Sealed (pic cover)... $4.99
Not a cover of the Afrika Bambaataa classic of the same name – although the cut does borrow the chorus for its own – and instead some mighty fresh work from Fatnice, set to some crackling cosmic beats! Our favorite is the stripped-down "windy city mix", which has a brasness the Lil Dave mix is missing – and the flipside features Fatnice's own take on the concept of "Favorite Things" – served up with this true school vibe that should make him huge, if the world has any sense of justice! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Rocky Gil & The BishopsIt's Not The End/Soul Party ... 7-inch
Sundae Soul (Germany), 1968. Near Mint- ... $7.99
Rare southern funk from Rocky Gil & The Bishops – two tracks from their obscure album for the Crazy Cajun label! "It's Not The End" has a soaring blend of soulful rhythms and unified horns alongside Rocky's vocals – almost with that warmly spinning sound that we love in late 60s material from Archie Bell & The Drells! "Soul Party" is a cut that definitely lives up to its name – with a wickedly funky bassline that sets the whole thing moving right from the start – as the horns pour in with effortless ease, and Rocky invites the whole world to his party with the lyrics! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Al GreenBack Up Train/Don't Leave Me ... 7-inch
Hot Line, Late 60s. Very Good ... $2.99
A great little single from Al – recorded in the pre-Hi, pre-Willie Mitchell days, when he was working with the Soul Mates group, and working with an "e" on the end of his last name. "Back Up Train" has a nice punch in the ballad groove – very mellow, but also slyly funky! 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Flashback pressing.)

Eddie HarrisEddie Harris Goes To The Movies (7 inch jukebox EP) ... 7-inch
Vee Jay, Early 60s. Very Good+ (pic cover)... $4.99
A little mini jukebox EP of Eddie's excellent Vee Jay LP. After the success that Vee Jay had with Eddie Harris' huge hit version of "Exodus", they cut this album of Eddie playing movie themes – like "Tonight", "Moonglow", "I Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out To Dry", "Gone With The Wind", "Be My Love" and "Secret Love". Dick Marx handled the arrangements – and the overall sound is slicker than Eddie's "Exodus", as his solos are laid out over larger string arrangements by Dick Marx, but it's not without some charms – especially because Eddie's tone at this point is amazing, filled with little tricks and turns that make just about anything he plays sound great! 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Cover has a name in marker on back.)

Willie Henderson & the Soul ExplosionsFunky Chicken (parts 1 & 2) ... 7-inch
Brunswick, Early 70s. Near Mint- ... $9.99
Chicago funkiness from the great Willie Henderson – a tune that was one of his biggest hits, and which has a different kind of groove from Rufus Thomas' number of the same name! Lots of nice skittish percussion, and a good mix of the rough and smooth! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Jon HendricksCloudburst/Four Brothers ... 7-inch
Decca, Mid 50s. Near Mint- ... $4.99
Very cool – and one of the first records we've seen issued under the name of Jon Hendricks! The single is pre-Lambert Hendricks & Ross – but also features backing from the Dave Lambert singers. 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Promo copy, too. One label has a small sticker.)

Eddie Higgins TrioSoulero (7-inch EP) ... 7-inch
Atlantic, 1965. Very Good+ (pic cover)... $9.99
Great 60s material from pianist Eddie Higgins – one of his few records for Atlantic, and a set that definitely lives up to the seductive power of the title and cover! Eddie's maybe a bit more creative and open here than on some of his other records – more in a Chess Records trio mode than especially his later, more lyrical sides – with great work on rhythm from Richard Evans on bass and Marshall Thompson on drums! The work really reflects Higgins' placement on the Chicago scene of the 60s – and he's got a surprisingly strong left-handed groove at times – on titles that include "Soulero", "Tango Africaine", "Mr Evans","Love Letters", and "Shelly's World". 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Sleeve has light wear and a name in marker.)

Jungle FireFirewalker/Chalupa ... 7-inch
Colemine, 2012. New Copy ... $4.99
Fast guitar steps out quick on "Firewalker" – setting a groove that's followed by fast congas and some heavy riffing horns – all burning together with just the right sort of intensity you'd guess from the group's name! "Chalupa" continues with a sweet tropical groove – darn funky, and with this cool plunky beat that's mighty unique! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Kool & The GangKool & The Gang/Raw Hamburgers ... 7-inch
De-Lite, Early 70s. Near Mint- ... $7.99
Classic early funkiness from Kool & The Gang! "Kool & the Gang" is a hard funky groover – very worthy of the group's name, with that full-on horn/guitar groove that they virtually pioneered! "Raw Hamburger" is excellent too – with a slowly building, trumpet jazzed sound, laid out over some great spoken parts in which two guys talk about food over some funky clavinet! 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Label has a small sticker.)

✨✧ Living FunkFools Love/Silver Black Summer Day ... 7-inch
Funk Music Unlimited, 1973. New Copy ... $8.99 9.98
The group may be named Living Funk, but "Fools Love" is a great bit of mellow sweet soul – a tune that moves at a slow pace that really lets the vocals unfold in a heartbreaking kind of way! The funk returns on the flipside – as "Silver Black Summer Day" has loads of riffing guitar and fast-stepping basslines – with righteous lyrics right from the street, and a sweet fuzzy guitar solo in the middle! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Booker T & The MGsSlim Jenkin's Place/Groovin' ... 7-inch
Stax, 1967. Very Good ... $4.99
Two lesser known tracks from Booker T – but both nice! "Slim Jenkins" has kind of a slight western tinge on the guitar – stepping around a saloon floor with the kind of edgey approach you'd expect from a guy named "Slim"! "Groovin" is a nice instrumental take on the big crossover hit – done with easily sliding organ and guitar that kind of hint at the later Melting Pot years! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Hard Drivers with Vivian LeeSince I Was A Little Girl/Straight Talk ... 7-inch
Athens Of The North (UK), Late 70s. New Copy ... $12.99
Vivian Lee's a hell of a singer, and she's right out front here – soaring above the fast funk grooves by the Hard Drivers – who are a group who definitely earn their name! The tune's a mixture of funky soul and club – and it's backed by the slower-moving "Straight Talk" – a song that really showcases Vivian's deep soul style! 7-inch, Vinyl record

JohnnyOnly Love (voc, inst) (with download) ... 7-inch
Now Again, 2016. Near Mint- ... $7.99
Killer blend of raw funk and fuzzy guitar from Johnny! – spearheaded by neo-classic funk heavy J Whitefield! Whitefield's is a key contemporary funk player to say the least – busting regional and stylistic boundaries with Poets Of Rhythm, Karl Hector & The Malcouns, Whitefield Brothers and more over the years – while always keeping it funky. Johnny! is another exciting chapter, deserving of exclamation point in the name – leaning more on fuzzy funk guitars and raw drums of Ghana and Zambia in inspiration – working with Henry Taylor (some of Ghana legend Ebo Taylor), singer and percussionist Eric Owusu and others. Includes the vocal and instrumental. 7-inch, Vinyl record
