One of the last great JBs singles! The track starts with a great spoken intro, then leaps into a hard heavy cookin' instrumental groove, with a nice snapping choppy beat! Backed here by the JBs' great cover of Sly Stone's big hit, too! 7-inch, Vinyl record
One of the rarer JBs singles on People, and one that has 2 great tracks that weren't on any of the LPs by them. "Back Stabbers" is their funky cover of the O'Jays' hit, and "JB Shout" is a good instrumental, with a stunning solo by Fred Wesley. 7-inch, Vinyl record
One of the harder to find singles by the JBs, and a tasty two-fer of funky tracks from their Breakin Bread album! Both tracks are great, and match the JBs funky jazz sound with some cool electronics bubbling under the mix! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Killer funkiness by the JBs! The track's a bit later than their early classics – but don't let that put you off, as it's still pretty darn great, races away like a house on fire, with a very hard ripping groove! Both parts are t-a-s-t-y – and worth the two-part groove! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Two very nice funky numbers! "Makin Love" has some very hard bassy beats, with a great wah wah guitar running through, giving the cut a nice spacey feel! "Rice and Ribs" mixes choppy guitar riffs with clavinet, for a nice funky 70s groove that keeps on going all the way through! 7-inch, Vinyl record
An amazing instrumental that's one of our favorite tracks by the JBs! The cut's not like anything they ever cut – as it's got a rolling modal groove with a lot more jazz than usual, played on vamping keyboards and funky sax, riffing away at a breakneck pace that sounds like a "chase" theme from a blacksploitation flick! The cut's a monster, and part two really opens up the groove from part one. Plus the single says "Instrumental dedication to George Woods at 18th testimonial" on the label! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Great original People single of the best funky track off the Breakin' Bread album – and one which has been sampled a bunch. Groovy dope guitar grooves. 7-inch, Vinyl record
Two great obscure ones from the JBs! "Sportin Life" has a totally different groove than usual, with a rolling strummed guitar part, and some super-dope electric piano lines! "Dirty Harri" is a slowly chugging Hammond track, with a very nice funky vamp! Great stuff – and more reason to buy funky 45s! 7-inch, Vinyl record
The single's a great lost pre-People single by The JBs – and it's sort of an introduction to the group, as James shouts "These Are The JBs" at the beginning, then the band launches into a nice sinister loping funky groove that's quite different from some of their later work. A real gem. 7-inch, Vinyl record
Maybe one of the funkiest vocal numbers ever sung by Johnny Adams – and one that owes a lot to the super-funky backings of the Huck Daniels Co – who somehow manage to combine the tightness of the James Brown Band of the late 60s with the more sophisticated instrumention of the JBs in the early 70s! 7-inch, Vinyl record
An undisputed groover! The track's a killer uptempo one from James' later years on King – and it's got this amazing beat that snaps along at a full deep stride. Very nice stuff, and the kind of tight grooving that would show up later in his work with the JBs – done here earlier, with a great raw groove. 7-inch, Vinyl record
The Godfather at the height of his powers! The track's a killer 2-part heavy funk track – with a riffing vamp that you'll recognize immediately, and loads of tight work from the JBs! The stuff that funky legends are made of – and funky all the way through! 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Red label pressing with James' face. In a Polydor sleeve.)
Excellent funk from the JBs! The single – featuring parts 3 and 4 of the track – is a perfect example of the "party" style that James would use in the studio. Side one cuts right into the band, who've clearly already been jamming for a few minutes before the record starts. Side two does the same thing – and continues the very raw, hyper-live feel of the record! 7-inch, Vinyl record
One of James' best, and a killer funky track with a great riff by the JBs! Both parts are excellent, and the track never stops grooving! The 45 mix is different than the LP, too! 7-inch, Vinyl record
A funky funky bit of wax – one of the first releases on the Luv N Haight label, a long out of print reissue of these two funky sides by the Soul Toronadoes! Both cuts bristle with a JBs type groove – nice and tasty! 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Original pressing with typo labels and ARP stamp.)
One of James' best funky cuts from the early 70s – a monster hard-hitting track with all the intensity of the best JBs sides from the same time, and one that begins with James shouting the legendary lines "Que pasa people? Que pasa? Hit me!" The changes are excellent, and the cut's got a very nice breakdown! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Enough soul power to run a whole generator! James is in stunning form with the JBs – and the whole thing grooves with a choppy guitar riff that you'll recognize immediately from a million 80s hip hop samples. The whole band has "Got the Feelin!", and the track jams nicely with lots of spoken bits and nice solos! 7-inch, Vinyl record
An oft-forgotten funky classic from James! The track's a monster – with this wah-wah beat that's flanged all over the place, yet is still as tight as a pair of pants with a 26 inch waist! The groove is prime JBs early 70s – and James is shoutin and callin the groove over the top! 7-inch, Vinyl record
An old track – redone as a funky 70s killer from James Brown! The track starts out in a JBs party mode – with some dialogue before the band starts playing, then hitting a "Funky Good Time" groove. Over the top, you'll get some hard raw guitar soloing – very much in the classic mode from the Bill Doggett original – and the "part 2" features some great sax work, probably from Maceo! Originally issued only on single, before appearing on a greatest hits LP. 7-inch, Vinyl record
