DriftersI'll Take You Where The Music's Playing (jukebox EP) ... 7-inch
Atlantic, 1965. Sealed (pic cover)... $29.99
A rock-solid set from the Drifters, maybe their best for Atlantic in the 60s! The album's heavy on those lightly loping tunes that the group virtually invented a few years before – that slightly-sweetened approach to soul that became known as the uptown sound and which still had The Drifters as one of its key proponents at the time of this set. Production is by the great Bert Berns, who really knows how to balance all elements perfectly – and many of the lead vocals are by Johnny Moore, whose crackling vocals bring in a nice sense of feeling, even when the tunes are pretty darn catchy. 6 tracks from the LP: "I'll Take You Where The Music's Playing", "I've Got Sand In My Shoes", "Follow Me", "Answer The Phone", "Chains Of Love" and "Far From The Maddening Crowd". 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Includes jukebox title cards and mini LP images.)

9th CreationMellow Music/Step Ahead ... 7-inch
Past Due, Late 70s. New Copy (reissue)... $13.99
Most folks know 9th Creation as a heavy funk band, but they're also pretty darn great on mellower moments too – working in all the complexity of their funky arrangements, but with a laidback vibe that's maybe even more impressive! "Mellow Music" definitely has that right sort of special balance – and it's backed here by "Step Ahead", which is more uptempo, and has a lot of cool keyboard elements – all given even more of a groove by producer Pat Gleeson! 7-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Al GreenBack Up Train/Don't Leave Me ... 7-inch
Hot Line Music Journal, Late 60s. Very Good ... Just Sold Out!
A great little single from Al – recorded in the pre-Hi, pre-Willie Mitchell days, when he was working with the Soul Mates group, and working with an "e" on the end of his last name. "Back Up Train" has a nice punch in the ballad groove – very mellow, but also slyly funky! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Bobby BoydLove Goddess/Good News ... 7-inch
Athens Of The North (UK), Late 70s. New Copy ... $7.99
Two rare groovers from Bobby Boyd! "Love Goddess" has this great sort of building vibe at the start – a bit like the way the "Shaft" theme rolls in, but totally different too – especially when Bobby hits the great lyric in the lead! "Good News" is as upbeat as you might expect – with these bright horns over a romping groove that has plenty of bass at the bottom – all to support Bobby's fantastic vocals, which have a message that's as positive as the music! 7-inch, Vinyl record
