Tobi LarkChallenge My Love/Sweep It Out In The Shed ... 7-inch
Topper/Ace (UK), 1966. New Copy ... $11.99 14.99
Two great cuts from 60s female soul singer Tobi Lark! "Challenge My Love" is a mid 60s Detroit groover from the hands of Dave Hamilton – nicely chugging beat underneath, sweet vocals by Tobi, and a bit of a brassy finish on the groove – all making for a nice midtempo dancer all around! "Sweep It Out" is a stone cooker from Tobi Lark – a romping Northern groove that has some weird harmony vocals shooby-doobing underneath Tobi's bold, raw lead – all on top of a rhythm that's completely infectious from the get-go! 7-inch, Vinyl record

DC International, 1974. Near Mint- ... $11.99
Great stuff from one of the 70s' best vocal groups! "Seems Like" is stone mellow east coast harmony soul, with a sweet ballad style. "Town Called Nowhere" is even better, and has a nice choppy guitar, and a good midtempo groove. Very nice! 7-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Archie Bell & The DrellsI Can't Stop Dancing/You're Such A Beautiful Child ... 7-inch
Atlantic, Late 60s. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
2 stone killers from Archie Bell & The Drells – both of them in that tight and outta site groovy mode that graced their best early work for Atlantic! There's not as much hard funk here as on "Tighten Up", but the sound is somehow even richer – a swinging party kind of soul that gets you right away, and which is supported by some great horns, catchy rhythms, and wonderful raspy vocals from Archie and the group! 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Includes Atlantic sleeve and jukebox strips!)

✨✧ James BrownPayback (parts 1 & 2) ... 7-inch
Polydor, 1973. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of James Brown's greatest cuts ever – a stone funky monster that never gets old! The tune's got a snapping slow funk beat that's simply incredible, and it builds and builds with a sound that has an intensity that can't be beat! Plus, this 2-part single is actually pretty tough to find – a lot rarer than the album, with a strange spoken announcer over a few parts! 7-inch, Vinyl record

King, Late 60s. Good ... Out Of Stock
Killer funky work from James! "Let A Man Come In" is a stone-cold funky number – with great raw popping grooves, very much in the Popcorn vein! Hard to find on vinyl in any form – and sounds great on the hot funky 45 mix! "Sometime" is nice, too – with a deep soul sound that's mellower than the a-side, but still very nice. 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Labels have heavy ring wear, name in marker.)

✨✧ James BrownSay It Loud – I'm Black & I'm Proud (parts 1 & 2) ... 7-inch
King, Late 60s. Very Good ... Out Of Stock
A monster – and one of the most anthemic cuts that James ever cut! Begins with a monster drumbeat, kicks into a stone groove with loads of guitar, horn, and funky bass – while James shouts the whole thing through without faltering! The track became the motto of a generation – and it's a heck of a lot funkier than "We Shall Overcome"! 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Blue label pressing.)

Tamla, 1965. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A stone Motown classic – and a tune that really set the 60s "go go" soul groove on fire! But even better is the sweet b-side – the majestic "Choosey Beggar", a great ballad track with incredible lead vocals from Smokey! 7-inch, Vinyl record
(UK small hole pressing.)

✨✧ Natural FourHeaven Right Here On Earth/While You're Away ... 7-inch
Curtom, 1975. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Leroy Hutson arranged, produced, and wrote both tracks – and they're both excellent harmony sides by this stellar soul group from Chicago! "Heaven Right Here On Earth" is one of the group's trademark tunes – a beautifully slow track that starts with some electric sitar, then slides into a floating harmony vocal that's perfect all the way through! "While You're Away" is a bit mellower, but in a way that brings the harmonies even more to the forefront. The cut's got a great hook, and is produced to perfection with a stone cold sound! 7-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Charlie ParkerMagnificent Charlie Parker – Album 2 ... 7-inch
Clef, Early 1950s. Very Good (pic cover)... Out Of Stock
Classic early Charlie Parker on Verve – and one that may well support one of the strangest cover illustrations ever done by the great David Stone Martin! The image of a bird-headed Parker blowing alto is more than compelling enough – but inside, the music is even better – pulled from a variety of different early Parker sessions for Norman Granz – showing some of the real early strengths of his sound! Tracks include "Si Si", "Swedish Schnapps", "Back Home Blues", and "Lover Man". 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Cover has splitting, edge wear, old tape remnant, surface wear & aging, corner bend.)

✨✧ James BrownPapa's Got A Brand New Bag (parts 1 & 2) ... 7-inch
King, Mid 60s. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
An interesting single from James – featuring his super-huge hit of the mid 60s, but issued on a late 60s King label! The tune's a stone winner as always – and the flip is "mostly instrumental", with a vamp that virtually invented the funky vamp! 7-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Detroit EmeraldsDo Me Right/Just Now & Then ... 7-inch
Westbound, Early 70s. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Great stuff by this excellent Detroit harmony group – cut during their best period. "Do Me Right" is a catchy little groover, with kind of a popping bubbling hook that makes the cut one of the group's most memorable. "Just Now & Then" is a slow mellow number, with a southern soul-ish horn finish, and stone Detroit harmonies at the best moments. 7-inch, Vinyl record

Sansu, 1967. Very Good ... Out Of Stock
Stone New Orleans soul from the great Betty Harris! Both tracks are slow and moody, with heavy heavy production from the Toussaint/Sehorn team – and "I'm Gonna Git Ya" has a great hard "ya ya" kind of sound! 7-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ JBsAll Aboard The Soul Funky Train/Thank You For Lettin Me Be Mice Elf Again ... 7-inch
People, 1975. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
One of the last great JBs singles! The track starts with a great spoken intro, then leaps into a hard heavy cookin' instrumental groove, with a nice snapping choppy beat! Backed here by the JBs' great cover of Sly Stone's big hit, too! 7-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Kool & The GangHollywood Swinging/Dujii ... 7-inch
De-Lite, 1974. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A killer – one of those must-own tracks that we'd never be without! "Duji" is a totally great cut by Kool & The Gang, jazzy, warm, but still quite funky – with a warm rolling guitar part that's really unique. The cut was sampled famously by Gang Starr for "Jazz Thing" – but it's a stone winner on its own, and always sounds great. Backed with "Hollywood Swinging", one of the group's most famous funky hits too! 7-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Hugh MasekelaGrazing In The Grass/Bajabula Bonke ... 7-inch
Uni, Late 60s. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A stone winner – on both sides! You already know Hugh's classic "Grazing In The Grass", one of the all-time great Afro Pop numbers – with trademark loud cowbell and wonderful off-beat horn sounds. "Bajabula" is pretty darn great, too – and although it's very very slow, it's got a similar haunting groove, with off-kilter rhythms that make it really compelling. 7-inch, Vinyl record
