Alvin's in fine fine form here! Both tracks have a tight funky uptempo sound – with the usual bass-heavy grooves you'll find on Alvin's 60s work, plus raw shouted vocal bits in Alvin's standard "call and response" style. Both groovy! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Great instrumental groovers in the best Toddlin' Town tradition! "Gimme Some Of Yours" has a wangly funky guitar sound, with some wiggly notes, a choppy woodblock, and a very groovy solo in the middle – all laid out over some hard snapping beats that are really nice! "Enough for Everybody" is more of an Atlantic-style soul instrumental, but with a nice hard sound to it. 7-inch, Vinyl record
Two nice funky instrumentals by the studio band for this obscure Chicago funk label! "It's Your Thing" is the famous Isleys track, and itgrooves as nicely as any cover of the track. "The Dud" has some nice weird instrumental moments, with horns chugging over equally chugging bass and drums. 7-inch, Vinyl record
A sound library tune that really lives up to its title – a De Wolfe library gem that pays tribute to Motown Records, but with a slightly different vibe too! Basil Kirchin's better known for offbeat and moody music – yet here, the tune is certainly a romping groove – but with some unusual fuzz guitar, and even a bit of harmonica used to evoke Little Stevie Wonder! The flipside is another De Wolfe track, but from a few years later – done in this bad-stepping 70s funk mode that feels like it's lifted right off some action soundtrack – cool vibes and fuzz guitar over a groove that also has a bit of conga at the bottom! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Although James Phelps has a deep raw soul voice – he's matched here with some nice uptown arrangements courtesy of Phil Wright, for a sound that's a lot like some of the best solo Ben E. King solo stuff for Atlantic! "Love Is A 5-Letter Word" is a nice slowly-rolling track with a catchy chorus – and "I'll Do The Best" has an uptowny style that's wonderful – really one of those "shoulda been a hit" kind of tunes! 7-inch, Vinyl record
