✨✧ Joe Maphis, Collins Kids, & OthersTown Hall Party ... CD
Columbia/Bear Family (Germany), 1957. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A surprisingly rare album of work from the west coast country scene of the 50s – a record of performers who were all starring on the Town Hall Party at the time – which was the Los Angeles equivalent of the Grand Ol Opry in Nashville! The names here are maybe a bit less superstar-oriented than any Opry productions, but that's also what makes the set so unusual – especially as the whole thing is a rare non-Capitol Records effort to showcase the changing sound of country music out west in the 50s – recorded by Columbia producer Don Law, working away from his usual Tennessee home. The set features two strong solo performances by guitar legend Joe Maphis, who also plays on a number of the other vocal tracks here – "Town Hall Shuffle" and "Tennessee Two Step" –a nd other cuts include "My Little Red Wagon" by Les Carrot Top Anderson, "Just Because" by The Collins Kids, "Lonesome Love" by Freddie Hart, "Cold Cold Heart" by Dortha Wright, "Oklahoma Waltz" by Johnny Bond, "Sweeter Than Flowers" by Joe & Rose Lee Maphis, "Kentucky Waltz" by Bobby Charles, "Each Minute Seems A Million Years" by Jenks Tex Carman, and "Wait For The Light To Shine", performed together by the entire cast.
