✨✧ Lorne GreeneMan ... LP
RCA, 1965. Sealed ... Out Of Stock
Great 60s country exotica and tales of the American West from actor Lorne Greene – with arrangements that combine stripped down, echoey guitar with the big & glossy RCA sound of the era, and even more brash bigness from Hollywood – all done with endearingly poker-faced vocals by Lorne that fall somewhere between Tennessee Ernie Ford and Lee Hazlewood! The record features folklore tales and story songs by Merle Travis, Merle Kilgore and other lesser known and less often recorded gems. All of it would be pure canned ham by an inferior breed of cat than Lorne Greene, but Lorne pulls it off masterfully – highly recommended western folklore – Hollywood style! LP, Vinyl record album

Incredible String BandHangman's Beautiful Daughter ... LP
Elektra, 1968. Very Good+ ... $24.99
The Incredible String Band are paired down to the core duo of Mike Heron & Robin Williamson for their third and possibly best album – the truly incredible Hangman's Beautiful Daughter – using the studio as a most impressive adjunct member of the group at this point! ✨✧ Merle HaggardTribute to the Best Damn Fiddle Player in the World ... LP
Capitol, Early 70s. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A hell of a record from the great Merle Haggard – partly a tribute to the western swing pioneer Bob Wills, but also a fantastic demonstration of all the growth that Merle had undergone in such a short time! The songs are all Bob Wills classics, and they're interpreted here by a group that also features members of Bob's original Texas Playboys lineup – including Johnny Gimble on fiddle and Billie Tiny Moore on mandolin – but the real revelation is the way that Merle can not only give complete credit to the way that Bob Wills influenced his music, but also step into the role of a leader with the same sort of strength as Bob – yet in a completely different way. Hag's vocals are different than other Capitol Records of the time – able to capture all the jazzy inflections that Tommy Duncan had when singing with the Texas Playboys – and the style seems to just be another feather in Merle's mighty cap at the time. Titles include "Right Or Wrong", "Brown Skinned Gal", "Misery", "Roly Poly", "Old Fashioned Love", and "Take Me Back To Tulsa". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Michael HurleyArmchair Boogie ... LP
Raccoon/Mississippi, 1969. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A great record from the offbeat legend Michael Hurley – a set that features both spare tunes and others done with a larger band that's full of unusual instrumentation! The spare, ragged little solo tunes are served up on guitar and vocals – numbers that greatly showcase both Hurley's easygoing, slowly-rolling style, as well has his piercing, high emphatic howls. The group tracks feature bits of fiddle and mandolin – plus piano, harmonica, bass, and cornet – used sparingly, but in ways that punctuate the vocals nicely. Titles include the classic "Werewolf" – plus "Grand Canyon Line", "English Nobleman", "Be Kind To Me", "Troubled Waters", "Sweedeedee", "Open Up", "Jocko's Lament", "Light Green Fellow", "Get The Best Of Me", "Biscuit Roller", "When The Swallows Come Back To Capistrano", and "Penguins". ✨✧ Buck OwensChristmas Shopping (green vinyl pressing) ... LP
Capitol/Sundazed, 1968. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
One of our favorite Christmas albums of the 60s – and a set that's maybe every bit as great as the non-Holiday albums that Buck Owens was cutting for Capitol Records at the time! The title track "Christmas Shopping" is the kind of dated Holiday tune that we really like – a mad little number with a tight riffing approach, and some silly lyrics about buying too many presents – and other tracks are more in the serious country mode of Buck's other work at Capitol – and have some great original lyrics that make the album a fresh album of tunes that will soon be new Christmas favorites! Buck's mix of fast-moving groove and heartfelt vocals is wonderful – and titles include "A Very Merry Christmas", "Christmas Time Is Near", "The Jolly Christmas Polka", "All I Want for Christmas Is My Daddy", and "One Of Everything You've Got". (Holiday Music, Folk/Country) LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ John HartfordGentle On My Mind ... LP
RCA, 1968. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Features John Hartford's original recording of the title track, which many others would make a hit – plus other gems that include "The Six O'Clock Train & A Girl With Green Eyes", "California Earthquake", "Mouth To Mouth Resuscitation", "Untangle Your Mind", and "Front Porch". Great production and lots of odd arrangements! LP, Vinyl record album
(Orange label stereo pressing. Label has a tiny bit of pen, and cover has a small scratch – but this is a very nice copy.)
