✨✧ TocoOutro Lugar ... LP
Schema (Italy), 2007. New Copy ... $30.99 32.99
Beautiful bossa work from Toco – a session recorded in Rio with production by S-Tone, and featuring some wonderful acoustic guitar from the legendary Roberto Menescal! Menescal's presence here really helps give the record a classic grounding – a sense of depth and history that surpasses even Toco's great debut – and which is made even better by the presence of Rosalia De Souza on guest vocals on a number of tracks! As with Rosalia's recent Rio sessions, there's a sound here that's warmer, jazzier, and even more traditionally bossa-based than previous Schema releases – with a bit less of a dancefloor focus in the rhythms, and a lot more live instrumentation! All numbers feature small combo backing, and titles include "Litoral", "Zum Zum", "Assuntos Banais", "Bom Motivo", "Samba Noir", "Barracao", "Voz Da Lapa", and "Contradicao", which features guest vocals from Coralie Clement! ✨✧ VariousBreak N' Bossa – Chapter 8 ... CD
Schema (Italy), 2008. Used 2CD ... Out Of Stock
Beautiful bossa groovers galore – and one of the greatest entries so far in a series that never lets us down! Years back when Break N Bossa first started, the concept of older Brazilian modes and contemporary dancefloor rhythms was something of a new idea – but over the years, with the help of titles like this, grooves around the globe are a heck of a lot warmer – filled with acoustic elements that take us back not only to the sounds of Rio in the 60s, but also to the European scene that was so inspired by it in later decades. This time around, there's plenty of greatness to chose from – and there's definitely a deepening of the sound as members of the Schema and other scenes represented here have matured over the years. 2CD set features 26 tracks in all, some previously unreleased – including "VSOP (Beatfanatic edit)" by Stockholm Cyclo, "Pinkie (2008 version)" by Beat Out Shrine, "Jurubeba" by Luis Ferri with Adi Souza, "No Mercy For Me (Alessandro Magnanini rework)" by Mario Biondi, "Ocean (Diggin In The Latin mix)" by The Dining Rooms, "Carolina Carol Bela" by Gerardo Frisina with Anna Clementi, "Carioca (Nicola Conte rmx)" by Fragmentorchestra, "Onde Anda O Meu Amor (Fedreghini & Bianchi rmx)" by Rosalia De Souza, "Que Bandeira (Frisina rmx)" by Rosalia De Souza, "Thin Ice (Fedreghini & Bianchi rmx)" by Dining Rooms, "Till The End (Inverse Cinematics rmx)" by The Invisible Session, "Kind Of Latin Rhythm" by Juju Orchestra, "Aromi" by Nick Bernard, and "Non Stop Flight" by Dalindeo. VariousNicola Conte Presents Viagem 3 – A Collection Of 60s Brazilian Bossa Nova & Jazz Samba ... CD
Far Out (UK), 1960s. New Copy ... $7.99 16.99
A killer collection of rare bossa nova from the 60s – all put together by Nicola Conte, whose work on the Schema label has done a lot to continue the tradition of the classics! Here, though, Nicola's set loose on the RGE label, and other indies from 60s Brazil – super-rare records that almost never made it to our neck of the woods back in the day, and which always had a super-sharp sound that was even harder and groovier than American work on labels like Verve and Capitol! The cuts here are all wonderful – many of them new to our ears, and filled with great vocals, driving percussion, and plenty of jazzy touches. Titles include "Fora De Hora" by Dalmo Castello, "Voce Que Nao Vem" by O Triangulo, "Sem Fim" by Marisa Baroso, "Chegar De Brigar" by Henrique Benny, "Macumba" by Claudia, "Copa 70" Brasil 40 Graus, "Litoral" by Werther, "Tema Em Do" by Bossa Trio, "Canto Do Quilombo" by Luiz Carlos Sa, "Faz De Conta" by Aizita, "Tokyo Blues" by Octons, and "Samba De Negro" by Carlos Sodre. ✨✧ Sabrina MalheirosTerra De Ninguem (Nicola Conte rework)/Cade Voce (Max Cole & Beatnik rmx)/Equilibria (album) ... 12-inch
Far Out (UK), 2006. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Nicola Conte, we love you – and if we ever needed a reason why, this single sure is proof! Sabrina's one of the better modern bossa divas around – really classic in approach, but with a great energy for the dancefloor – and here, she gets a Schema-styled taken courtesy of Conte – who kicks in a snare-heavy groove that really snaps the tune along wonderfully – jazzing up Sabrina's take of the famous "Terra De Ninguem", and almost making the whole thing come off like an Elis Regina classic from the 60s! A real bossa dancefloor gem – and one of our favorite singles on Far Out to date! (New Grooves, Brazil) 12-inch, Vinyl record
(In a Far Out sleeve.)
