✨✧ Stan Getz & Astrud GilbertoGetz Au Go Go ... LP
Verve, 1964. Sealed Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
A beautiful dreamy album that's quite different from the classic Getz/Gilberto collaboration – but which also shares much of that set's lyrical beauty! This album was recorded live, in 1964, when Stan Getz was playing with his quartet that included Gary Burton on vibes – an incredible lineup that made for some wonderfully moody sounds! The vibes/tenor approach was a high point in Getz's career – especially as the young Burton could create these beautiful washes of sound that were a perfect counterpoint to Getz's breathy playing. And although Astrud Gilberto is thrown into the mix here to give the album a bit of bossa appeal – vocals on 6 titles that include "Corovado", "Eu E Voce", "It Might As Well Be Spring", "One Note Samba", "Only Trust Your Heart", and "The Telephone Song" – there's also 4 more tracks that are all instrumental, and which show the Getz/Burton union in all of its glory! These tracks include "6 Nix Pix Flix", "The Singing Song", "Here's That Rainy Day", and "Summertime". And for reference, the rest of the group includes Gene Cherico on bass and Joe Hunt on drums – but on 3 tracks, Chuck Israels plays bass instead of Cherico, and on a few others, Helcio Milito plays drums instead of Hunt, and Kenny Burrell joins in on guitar. ✨✧ Moacir SantosCoisas (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Forma/Polysom (Brazil), 1965. New Copy Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A landmark in Brazilian music – the first album ever from arranger Moacir Santos, and a groundbreaking blend of jazz, larger arrangements, and Brazilian rhythms – still as fresh today as it was back in the 60s! The group's a large one – with instrumentation that includes vibes, guitar, saxes, percussion, and trombone – but the music seems to hang magically in air, suspended on light waves of sound and space that encircle the recording with incomparable warmth. Santos' conception is a highly rhythmic one – but the recording differs greatly from other bossa and samba sessions of the time, and comes across as a masterpiece of understatement, thanks to impeccable production from the great Roberto Quartin! Titles include "Coisa No 4", "Coisa No 10", "Coisa No 1", "Coisa No 8", "Coisa No 6", "Coisa No 2", and "Coisa No 7". LP, Vinyl record album
(Note: On side b, there seems to be some very minor distortion at just a few moments in the mastering, but the rest is great – a very minor issue.)

✨✧ Chick Corea & Return To ForeverLight As A Feather (expanded version) ... CD
Verve/Polygram, 1972. Used 2 CDs ... Out Of Stock
A classic bit of jazzy fusion from Chick Corea and the legendary Return To Forever group that included Flora Purim and Airto! The sound of the album influenced a generation, and although the album was overlooked by groovers for years, partly due to its success, it still sounds surprisingly fresh – skipping along with an amazing mix of fusion, Brazilian rhythms, and free-thinking solos! The album's overflowing with great-grooving goodies – and titles include the great original version of "Captain Marvel", plus "Light As A Feather", "Spain", and "500 Miles High". This expanded 2CD reissue features 10 previously unreleased tunes from the same session, plus loads of extra notes, photos, and more! (Jazz, Brazil) CD

✨✧ Elis ReginaMontreux Jazz Festival – com Hermeto Pascoal ... CD
WEA (Brazil), 1979. Used ... Out Of Stock
A stunning live recording from Elis Regina – one of the last few records she cut during her short time on this planet – and one of the best as well! The album's got a jazzy fire that's missing from some of Regina's other material of the time – and Elis sings with a group that includes a stellar guest performance by Hermeto Pascoal on a number of tracks, and runs through a lively set of tracks that includes a bunch of excellent groovers – upbeat numbers that almost get a bit funky at times. A highlight of the album is the long cut "Cobra Criada", which builds slowly into a complex funky line, with Elis scatting madly over the top. Other goodies include "Asa Branca", "Cai Dentro", "Garota De Ipanema", and a great remake of "Upa Neguinho", with nice messed-up arrangements. Plus, the CD features a number of bonus tracks – including "Onze Fitas", "Aguas De Marco", "Amor Ate O Fim", "Samba Dobrado", "Rebento", and "Agora Ta". CD

✨✧ VariousBrazil 70 – After Tropicalia – New Directions In Brazilian Music In The 70s ... LP
Soul Jazz (UK), 1970s. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
A much-needed look at the post-Tropicalia years in Brazil – a time when cultural activity wasn't as politically explosive as before, but still continued to thrive at a highly creative level underground! The work of these years carries many inspirations from the Tropicalia years of freedoms – but it also often turns the focus towards the personal a bit more – drawing on individual roots and regional cultures for some of the elements in the music, and often pushing the sounds towards even more experimental levels! Some of the straighter modes of before have given way to more of a hippie aesthetic – but that approach is never nearly as self-indulgent as it is in the US, and more just an indication of how underground some of the musicians and ideals have gone by this point. As usual with Soul Jazz titles, the collection comes with great notes that really get at the music and the period – and the 2LP set features 16 tracks that include "Amor" by Secos E Molhados, "Tinindo Trincando" by Novos Baianos, "Punhal De Prata" by Alceu Valenca, "Passara" by Jaime & Nair, "Sai Do Sereno" by Gilberto Gil, "Corista De Rock" by Rita Lee, "Sete Cahorros" by Nelson Angelos & Joyce, "Ingazeiras" by Ednardo E O Pessoal Do Ceara, "Contendas De Sincora" by Mar Revolto, "As Adventuras De Raul Seixas Na Cidade De Thor" by Raul Seixas, "Pontos De Luz" by Gal Costa, "Mane Joao" by Erasmo Carlos, and "America Tropical" by Novos Baianos. ✨✧ Vera BrasilTema Do Boneco De Palha ... CD
Farroupilha/Sonorama (Germany), 1964. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Lovely bossa from a lesser-known singer – and a rare little gem that was originally issued on the tiny Farroupilha label in 1964! The album's got a really unique feel – one that's certainly classic bossa at its best, but which also somewhat different than usual too. Vera's vocals are breathy and gentle – and they mix wonderfully with the light backings directed by Luiz De Andrade. But perhaps best of all is the guitar – played by Vera as well, often in a way that has the notes skipping along lightly at the high range of the sound spectrum – trickling beautifully like gentle drops of water, and forming a perfect accompaniment for her vocals! The tracks are all pretty darn fresh too – mostly originals penned by Vera, with titles that include "Samba Bom", "Era Uma Vez", "Rimas De Ninguem", "Minha Fe Meu Amor", "O Menino Desce O Morro", "Nao E Por Falar", and "Tema Para Recordacao".
