Antonio Carlos JobimWave ... CD
CTI/A&M, 1967. Used ... $5.99
A stunning mix of talents that brings the heavenly piano and guitar of Antonio Carlos Jobim into play with the lush, but light arrangements of Claus Ogerman – a swirling mix of post-bossa loveliness that redefines Jobim's sound, and opens up new avenues for exploration in sound! The production is amazing – pillowy-soft, but with a complex depth that's hardly been matched again – and although Jobim's the main player, other great musicians include Dom Um Romao, Claudio Slon, Jerome Richardson, Ron Carter, and others. Tracks include "Wave", "Mojave", "Lamento", "Batidinha", "The Red Blouse", "Antiguq", and the groovy "Captain Bacardi". Beautiful all the way through! CD

✨✧ VariousBossa A La Mode – Tres ... CD
Rambling (Japan), 2006. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
New tracks, but with a heavy bossa nova vibe – one that's very much in the best spirit of this always-great series! The titles here are pulled from a range of current global sources – including labels from Italy, Brazil, and Japan – all brought together in a really lovely package that focuses on artists able to recorded modern bossa in modes that are never too sleepy nor too geared for the dancefloor! The balance here is perfect – warm, breezy, and jazzy – but never just a simple copycat of 60s bossa nova, and a great illustration of the growth the music has taken on in recent years in the hands of some of its best practitioners. Titles include "Bebossa" by Magnetic 4, "Mentira" by Marcos Valle, "Nawella" by Raw Artistic Soul, "Vem Morena" by Giana Viscardi, "Tristeza (Mansfield rmx – black sheep edit)" by Greetje Kaufeld, "Alegre" by Bob Dusi & Banda Charanga, "Samba Di Una Nota" by Tam Tam All Star, "Rio De Janeiro" by Rosalia De Souza, "Dos Prazeres Das Cancoes" by Peri, and "Italian Kisses" by Daniele Bengi Benati. (New Grooves, Brazil) CD

VariousHavaianas – Vida Do Paraiso ... CD
Rambling (Japan), 2005. Used ... $16.99
A very groovy little set of modern Brazilian tunes – all put together in a package designed to promote the Havaianas sandal company! We can hardly fault the footwear origins of the collection, though – because the overall track list is totally great, and filled with loads and loads of tunes that are fresh to our ears – which is a real compliment, considering how much Brazilian music we listen to! Older Brazilian styles come nicely into contact with modern dancefloor touches – mixing samba, bossa, and other modes into a blend that's fresh and lively, yet still relatively pure and organic – and not some weak-assed "Brazilian remix" sort of cliche. Titles inlcude "Voz De Alegria" by Joao and Caetano Veloso, "O Claro Dos Relampagos" by Olivia, "Baronesa" by Dinho Nascimento, "Serrado" by Grooveria, "Varrido De Amor" by Marco Andre, "Comigo Mesmo" by Lu Horta, "Am" by Zemaria, "Nao E Gente Nao" by Carlos Careqa, "O Prazer" by Giana Viscardi, and "Nhem Nhem Nhem" by Fenix.
