VariousBrazilian Love Affair 4 – The Essence Of Brazilian Chill Out ... CD
Far Out (UK), 2003. New Copy ... $7.99 16.99
A great set that's way way more than the "chill out" promised in the title – a collection of Brazilian groovers pulled from some of the best labels in the business! As with previous volumes in this series, the focus is on work done for the groundbreaking Far Out label – but this time around, they've also thrown in some choice bits from outside sources, including some killer underground bits from Brazil and a few choice classics! Titles include "Without Words" by 4 Hero Presents Nature's Plan with Ed Motta, "Na Batida Do Agogo (Osunlade rmx)" by Grupo Batuque, "Os Oculos Escuros De Cartola" by Max De Castro, "Papa" by Azymuth featuring Sabrina Malheiros, "Preguiciman" by Mamond, "Falso Amour" by Jirzinho Oliveira, "Escape" by Marcos Valle, "Beleza Nao Vai Embora" by Orlandivo, "E O Meu Amor Vi Passar" by Patricia Marx, and "Vera Cruz" by Vox Populi. ✨✧ Flora PurimStories To Tell ... CD
Milestone/OJC, 1974. Used ... Out Of Stock
Excellent work from Flora Purim – one of the wonderful west coast bits of Braziliana recorded in the Fantasy Records studios during the mid 70s! The record's a perfect example of the greatness that arose when Brazil's best talents had the chance to work with some of America's best jazz and fusion players – a sublime fusion of talents that resulted in a groove that would dominate the west coast scene for most of the 70s. In this case, Flora's backed by a great group that includes Hadley Caliman, Oscar Castro-Neves, Carlos Santana, Ron Carter, George Duke, Earl Klugh, and Airto – and the set includes a great choice of breezy numbers, perfect for Flora's vocals, like "Vera Cruz", "Silver Sword", "Casa Forte", "Mountain Train", and "Search For Peace". ✨✧ VariousBossa Nova Love Affair ... CD
Candid (UK), 1970s/1980s/1990s/2000s. Used ... Out Of Stock
Brazilian grooves old and new – a really surprising selection of work from the Candid and Choice record labels – showing a commitment to bossa that we never expected! Most of the tracks here are recent vintage – recorded in the past decade or so, and mixed with a few older gems – and all have an approach that's heavy on the jazz we expect from Candid, yet which also serves up the goods in a style that's every bit what we might expect from a Brazilian-based label! Vocals are mostly in English, but sometimes in Portuguese – and instrumentation is mostly acoustic, with a fair bit of percussion and guitar that really help drive home the Brazilian flavor of the tunes. Titles include "Arrastao" by Monica Vasconcelos, "In The Still Of The Night" by Clare Teal, "Blue Moon" by Jacqui Dankworth, "I Concentrate On You" by Stacey Kent, "The Gentle Rain" by Irene Kral, "Beatrice" by Ingrid Laubrock, "Com A Perno No Mundo" by Guinga, and "Para Raio" by Nois4. ✨✧ VariousSangue Latino 2 – Classic Brazilian Jazz Funk Grooves ... CD
Club Brasil (UK), 2003. Used ... Out Of Stock
A great idea for a compilation – older Brazilian grooves re-done by a collective of younger artists! The choice of tunes is impeccable – and tracks include tunes first made famous by the likes of Marcos Valle, Lo Borges, Joyce, Kitty Winter, Sergio Mendes, and others – all performed by a core group of musicians who work the grooves with loads of jazzy touches! Instrumentation includes keyboards, flute, and guitar – and all tracks have vocals from a rotating array of singers that include Ive Mendes, Lisa Brown, and Victoria Newton. The whole thing's great – as wonderful (perhaps more so) as any recent projects of this nature from Far Out or Mr Bongo – with titles that include "Mentira", "O Trem Azul", "Tarde Em Itapoan", "The Real Thing", "Brazil Night", "Feminina", and "Three Angels".
