Jerry Dantzic/Grayson DantzicBillie Holiday At Sugar Hill (hardcover) ... Book
Thames & Hudson, 2017. New Copy ... $11.99 40.00
A really lovely late-life portrait of Billie Holiday – an oversize book that's filled with black and white photographs taken during the month of April, 1957 – when Billie was headlining at the Sugar Hill club in Newark! Holiday's late troubles are well-known, and often etched upon her face on album covers from the period – but this book really gets past some of those too-familiar cliches, and captures the singer in a range of really vivid ways – onstage and off, outside and in, alone or with family, and always a really fantastic subject for the camera. Book is 144 pages, hardcover, oversize, and black and white. Book

Prestel (Germany), 2015. New Copy ... $15.99 60.00
A treasure trove of beautiful objects designed at mid-century – all creations of designer Peter Muller Munk – German by birth, and part of the wave of creative talent to come to America during wartime – which meant that we got to reap all the benefits of Peter's genius! Famous Muller Munk creations include the Waring blender or Bissell vacuum cleaner – but the book also shows early tableware, revolutionary kitchen design, transportation efforts, and even his famous Unisphere from the 1964 New York World's Fair! The book is heavy, oversize, and in full color – even more lovely inside than the cover – with 208 large pages that also include a lot about the designer's life and career. Book

Chronicle, 2001. New Copy ... $11.99 45.00
A beautiful book about the long life and lovely creations of the Hatch Show Print shop in Nashville – an institution that's well over 100 years old, and which has a fantastic legacy in music, film, and other advertising modes! The book is full color, and tells the history of the shop while also providing a huge range of its creations – starting with early advertisements for live shows, sensational posters for movies, and some especially important ads for country music stars, once Music City really got going in the postwar years! Fumihito TaguchiJapanese Portable Record Player Catalog ... Book
Jcopy (Japan), 2016. New Copy ... Just Sold Out!
One of the coolest books on turntable culture we've ever seen – a really lovely book that features dozens and dozens of Japanese portable turntables – each laid out with lots of photos, model information, and listing of the features too! The book is similar to some of the Japanese discographies on the market – but it's got a special focus on that nation's long legacy of ultra-cool portable record players – featured here in models from the postwar years to the present, each one groovier than the next! There's lots more text in the book in Japanese, but there's plenty to enjoy if you can't read the language – as the book is very visual overall, and even has a section in back of special players that handle unusual formats and special records too. Book is 240 pages, full color, and looks as groovy on the inside as it does on the outside! Book

Tom WolfArtistic Journey Of Yasuo Kuniyoshi (hardcover) ... Book
Smithsonian, 2015. New Copy ... $8.99 59.95
A lovely introduction to the work of Yasuo Kuniyoshi – a Japanese-born artist whose most important creations took place on the American scene of the 20s and 30s, a good number of which are included in this volume! The book is partly biography and critical assessment of Kuniyoshi's work, by author Tom Wolf – but there's also a very big section of full color images, with dozens of paintings that work together beautifully – almost surreal at times, but with a more naturalistic quality that sets Kuniyoshi apart from other modernists of midcentury. The book begins with Yasuo's paintings of the 20s, runs through the 40s, to a time when the US government had him declared as an "enemy alien", through later works in ink and paint. Book is hardcover, 175 pages, and full color. Book
