✨✧ Bobby Blue BlandFurther On Up The Road – The Duke Recordings 1955 to 1962 ... CD
Southern Routes, Late 50s/Early 60s. Used 2 CDs ... $7.99
There's nobody like Bobby Blue Bland on Duke Records – especially during the early years that are featured on this collection! Bland came out of Memphis with a very unique, really amazing sound right from the start – an approach to blues that was a lot more sophisticated than most of his contemporaries, even those on the LA scene – with lots of jazz in his phrasing, and his backings as well – and this sublime vocal approach that often had Bobby growling in a way that seemed to come from deep down in the depths of his soul, but never in any sort of gimmicky sort of style. Bland was always the perfect balance of cool, class, and outright blues power – and that was never more true than on these sides. 2CD set features a whopping 57 tracks in all – with titles that include "It's My Life Baby", "Honey Bee", "I'm Not Ashamed", "Is It Real", "I Can't Put You Down Baby", "Don't Want No Woman", "Loan Me A Helping Hand", "Bobby's Blues", "You've Got Bad Intentions", "I'll Take Care Of You", "Cry Cry Cry", "You're Worth It All", "That's The Way Love Is", "Call On Me", "Blue Moon", "I've Just Got To Forget You", and "How Does A Cheatin Woman Feel". Elmore JamesSky Is Crying – The Ultimate Collection (3CD set) ... CD
Fire/Sunset Blvd, Early 60s. New Copy 3CD ... $26.99 28.99
A massive collection of late work from Elmore James – a 3CD set that brings together all of his famous material for Bobby Robinson's Fire Records, plus rare alternate takes, and some unusual bonus material as well! James passed away right after this work was recorded, but he's really on fire here – playing with a guitar style that's raw, raspy, and maybe even more breathtaking than some of his other early 60s electric contemporaries – still singing with his voice in the lead on most numbers, but maybe almost letting his instrument sing even more strongly too! The production is great – lots of sock-soul arrangements that really pack a punch – and which really make us wonder what Elmore might have done, had he lasted through the 60s. 3CD set features 54 tracks in all – with titles that include "One Way Out", "Person To Person", "Look On Yonder Wall", "Up Jumped Elmore", "Pickin The Blues", "Rollin & Tumblin", "The Sky Is Crying", "Bleeding Heart", "It Hurts Me Too", "You Know You're Wrong", "Sunnyland", "Mean Mistreatin Mama", "Done Somebody Wrong", "Bobby's Rock", "Dust My Broom", "She's Got To Go", "Standing At The Crossroads", "I Gotta Go Now", and "Stranger Blues".
