✨✧ Dents1979/80 ... LP
HoZac, Late 70s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Really blistering work from this lost band from Cincinnati – a group who were part of the incredible Ohio scene of the early punk years, but never saw this material issued back in the day! Yet don't let that stop you from digging in – as the work here is incredible – hard, fast, and totally on the money – at a level that might well have made The Dents one of the leading punk rock bands of the Midwest, had they managed to get these gems on record at the time! The tracks are all super-short, and super-tight – mostly with lead vocals from female singer Vivien Vinyl, and given a nonstop sense of energy from quartet work on guitar, bass, drums, and even a bit of very cool keyboards. Titles include a surprising remake of the Robert Fripp tune "You Burn Me Up" – plus "The Dented", "Why Do You Do", "Wild Bill", "Cheap Perfume", "Saucer Series", "Present Tense", "Sleeping Around", and "Baby Wants". ✨✧ Tim Hinely & FriendsWhere The Wild Gigs Were – A Trip Thru America's Underground Music Venues ... Book
HoZac, 2021. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Ever have a favorite club you could always trust for a good show on your scene – the kind of place that gave you more than a few special nights of music over the years, even if it wasn't the kind of famous venue at a national level? The authors here definitely remember such spots – and they do an amazing job of pulling together key local venues from around the US – clubs that were crucial to the development of new sounds on local scenes, and which often formed a little island respite for an out of town band trying to put together their own small tour. Some of these clubs closed way back in the 70s, others were around until just a few years ago – and the book has entries on dozens of mostly-shuttered but still-crucial music spots – each with photos and little histories! We're grateful enough to see a photo of the long-shuttered Czar Bar on the back cover (right around the corner from Dusty Groove) – and the book features entries from similar clubs around the country. 235 pages, softcover, with black and white images throughout. Adam Roth & His Band Of MenDown The Shore ... LP
HoZac, 1981. New Copy (reissue)... $7.99 17.99
A power pop treasure finally gets its due – as this set brings together the full music created by Adam Roth for the early 80s teen trash film Down The Shore! The music more than works away from the film – the kind of brash, upfront, stripped-down sounds that often had the power pop indie scene crossing paths with the rise of punk in the US, especially in the spirit of The Ramones – delivered by Adam and the group with searing intensity and non-stop energy throughout! Roth is a hell of a guitarist and a completely charming vocalist – and the set's overflowing with well-penned short little tunes that pack a hell of a punch – titles that include "I Just Wanna Have Some Fun", "Now You're Runnin", "Judy Won't You Dance With Me", "She Said Oh", "Baseball Rock", and "Down The Shore". ✨✧ Brian ShanleyDodged & Burned – Seminal Rock Photography 1976-1984 ... Book
HoZac, 2020. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
An incredible document of the punk and post punk era live music scene in Chicago by Brian Shanley – a photographer and designer who shot so many iconic bands and did design work for Wax Trax Records early on – and this book of his black & whites is pretty breathtaking if you have even a passive interest in punk or Chicago live music history in general! It captures some of the earliest Chicago appearances by solo era Iggy Pop,The Ramones, Bauhaus, Pere Ubu, Patti Smith, Motorhead, The Dead Boys and so many more, pics from some of the legendary suburban Chicago gigs in Wheeling and Schaumburg by punk bands back in the day with gigs in the city proper were harder to get, shots of seminal Chicago bands like Skafish and Tutu & The Pirates around town, shots of X in their own LA stomping grounds, Television and others at their CBGBs home base – it's one amazing shot after another here. After a short foreword and intro the book is almost all photos, every one of them vital. Book
