The music's got a light and playful kind of feel – partly 70s Euro erotica, but also with some slinkier touches that have a really nice 60s approach at times, and which feature nice little keyboard lines that dance around nicely! The main theme of the film is a bit jaunty, almost cheesy, but the other tracks on the set glide around with a really great feel – and make the soundtrack an excellent discovery from 70s Italy. An early 70s giallo soundtrack by Roberto Pregadio – who we know and love for some very cool and moddish jazzy soundtrack work a bit earlier on – and this is another groovy, yet necessarily seedy and sinister set from the under-appreciated composer! It revolves around a funky theme, with playfully-cooed female vocals – with some really sweet small combo, organ-flavored grooves throughout. The organ allows for some suspenseful and chilling moments when it's called for, but there's actually oddly breezy, early 70s kinda lounge funk vibe permeating this one most of the way through! 26 tracks in all – and all sequences on the title "Il Sorriso Della Jena". The first-ever release of the soundtrack to the movie Satanik – a wonderful soundtrack penned by the team of Roberto Pregadio and Romano Mussolini, who teamed up a few years before on the classic Kriminal! The style here is even more open and creative than before – sometimes straight jazz, in a mode that rivals the best American soundtracks of its type from the mid 60s – but at other times, the styles get a bit weirder – often thanks to a thin-sounding guitar that kind of wiggles and wobbles into the mix, shaking things up with a mod sort of edge. Other solo instrumentation includes trumpet, flute, accordion, and piano – the latter of which is played by either Mussolini or Pregadio – and the CD presents a total of 20 tracks from the film, pulled together as a complete soundtrack for the first time ever! A cool jazzy spy soundtrack from the end of the 60s – much more obscure than some of the James Bond records, and a lot groovier too! The duo of Walter Rizzati and Roberto Pregadio do a good job of mixing together exotic elements to set the locale, and some of the mod elements that you might expect to find in such a film score – so that the tunes move between jazzy riffing numbers, with instrumentation that includes guitar, flute, and trumpet – and others that almost seem to evoke an earlier exotica mode, with lots of nice "eastern" touches in the instrumentation! This is the first we've ever seen of the soundtrack as a reissue – and this version features 20 tracks in all, and notes in English and Italian. CD

A long-overdue entry in this legendary series of compilations – one that taught us an awful lot about funky soundtrack music back in the day, finally back in action after a long hiatus! This time around, the groove has gotten even deeper – as the series has stretched to include some killer sound library material as well – really mixing together all the jazz, funk, and cinematic elements that were in the previous volumes – yet all with the hip Euro-styled groove that we loved in all of those releases too! There's a huge amount of funky nuggets here, but all with a vibe that's very different than 70s work from the US scene – and although we've missed the Easy Tempo series for many years, we're so glad to have them back – as they're still one of the best. American film may have invented the genres of crime jazz and blacksploitation funk – but by the mid 70s, the Italian scene was really giving us a run for our money – as they turned out some amazing grooves for their legendary run of cop and crime films at the time! The movies were awash in music that really kept the action moving – heavy drums, badass basslines, wah wah guitar, and anything else that fit the spirit of a great chase or action scene.
