✨✧ YardbirdsRoger The Engineer ... CD
Edsel (UK), Mid 60s. Used ... Just Sold Out!
If you ever needed a record to convince you that The Yardbirds are pure genius, this one is it! Roger The Engineer captures all that was great about the group at their start – their sharp guitars, their undeniable wit, and that really special way they had of turning their bluesy inspirations into something completely new and different for the mod 60s scene! Jeff Beck is amazing on guitar – and the set's one of those that will have you go "oh yeah, that's why he was so important" – setting fire to the rest of the group, who themselves explode in ways that are mindblowing – and the whole thing's a blueprint for countless records to come from other artists who never got things this right. Titles include "Happenings Ten Years Time Ago", "Over Under Sideways Down", "Lost Women", "The Nazz Are Blue", "Jeff's Boogie", "What Do You Want", "He's Always There", "Turn Into Earth", and "Pyscho Daisies". CD

Herbie HancockBlow-Up – Original Soundtrack ... LP
MGM, Mid 60s. Very Good ... $24.99
An amazing little record – not only a fab 60s soundtrack, but a rare non-Blue Note 60s album by Herbie Hancock! The set was recorded for the film Blow Up – an incredibly dark thriller by Michaelangelo Antonioni, set in swinging London of the 60s, which provided a very groovy backdrop for Herbie's score! The tunes get plenty groovy on this set – dancing out with a combination of fast rhythms, nice piano and organ, and some of the jazzy flourishes you'd expect from a Quincy Jones soundtrack of similar vintage. The Yardbirds also make an appearance on the cut "Stroll On" – which features in one of the best scenes in the film – and other Herbie Hancock tracks include "The Thief", "Verushka", "The Naked Camera", "Bring Down The Birds", "The Kiss", and "The Bed". LP, Vinyl record album
(Late 70s French pressing in the Specialist Series cover.)

✨✧ VariousSlight Disturbance In My Mind – The British Proto-Psychedelic Sounds Of 1966 (3CD set) ... CD
Grapefruit (UK), 1966. New Copy 3 CDs ... Out Of Stock
Fantastic sounds from a real turning point in British music – a moment when the mod groups and singers of the year before were letting in a bit more freak and fuzz – yet all in ways that still kept the songs as short, tight, and tuneful as before! You might consider this work the big bang that set up a whole second generation of genius in the UK – the catchy sort of 45s that paved the way for longer jams on albums, progressive rock experimentation, mindbending psych, and even the hard rock modes that were just around the corner. You'll recognize a few of the names here as mid 60s mod heroes, but they're also mixed with some great lesser-knowns, all with the kind of deep dig that we love from these box sets on the Grapefruit label – right down to the massive booklet of notes that offers up track by track information on all the music. 84 tracks in all – with work by The Rockin Vickers, Yardbirds, Wimple Winch, John's Children, The Action, The Koobas, Fleur De Lys, The Favourite Sons, Keith Relf, The People, David Bowie, The Smoke, The Creation, Graham Bond Organization, Downliners Sect, The 5am Event, The Tomcats, The Majority, The In Crowd, Just Five, The Times, The Uglys, Outrage, and lots lots more!
