Yabby YouConquering Lion ... LP
Micron/Pressure Sounds (UK), 1976. New Copy 2LP ... $29.99 34.99
A roots reggae classic from the 70s – a much more obscure set than the giants of the generation by Bob Marley and Black Uhuru, but a set that's got a similar sort of righteous power – maybe even more so, given that Yabby You has the freedom of an indie label setting to get his message across! The set actually took years to put together, which you can hear in the mix of approaches that are used from track to track – material recorded at Black Ark, Dynamic, Channel One, and Harry J – which has creates a sense of variety that you'd not as likely to hear on a record of this nature at the time – although the sound is completely unified, thanks to the spirit of Yabby You's message. King Tubby handled the mixing, and creates a deep sound to match the lyrics – on titles that include "Covetous Men", "Anti Christ", "Carnal Mind", "Love Thy Neighbour", "Run Come Rally", "Jah Vengeance", and "The Man Who Does The Work". The LP edition features 10 bonus tracks – all the dubs from the album! LP, Vinyl record album

Yabby You & The ProphetsBeware Dub (with bonus tracks) ... LP
Pressure Sounds (UK), Late 70s. New Copy 2LP ... $29.99 34.99
A really fantastic album from Yabby You – one that's heavy on the mixing talents of King Tubby and Prince Jammy – so much so that Yabby's vocals are nicely buried in the overall sound, wrapped up in the heavy bass, riffing guitar, and bad-stepping drums – and couched in a wonderfully echoey style overall! The album's kind of a casebook study of the approach at its best – and is expanded here with a few bonus tracks and unissued numbers – which gives the whole thing double the power of the original! Titles include "Beware", "Peace", "Deliverance", "Prophets", "Feel Alright", "Praises", "Selassie I Memorial Version", "Sensimena", "Conquering Lion (dub plate mix)", "God Is Watching You (dub plate mix)", and "Marshall Dreadlocks Version". Yabby You & King TubbyWalls Of Jerusalem (with bonus tracks) ... LP
Pressure Sounds (UK), Late 70s. New Copy 2LP ... $29.99 34.99
Fantastically righteous work from Yabby You – recording right at the height of his powers, with some tremendous studio help from King Tubby! The songs are as full of the sense of politics and spirit that you'd guess from the album's title – recorded in the later stretch of roots reggae, when dub elements were coming into play and making things sound even more powerful – as Yabby receives mature, masterful accompaniment here from some of the best talents on the Jamaican scene – names that hardly bear repeating, as they continually worked to shape the changing sound of reggae styles in the 70s. Titles include "Walls Of Jerusalem", "Go To School Jah Children", "Fire Round Town", "Tribulation", "Plague On The Land", and "Chant Down Babylon". The core set features six straight vocal tracks, and six more dubs crafted by King Tubby – and this package features rare versions and studio outtakes – with titles that include "Fire Fire Dub" and "Jah Vengeance" by The Prophets, "Greetings" and "Sand In My Shoe Dub" by King Tubby, "Sand In My Shoe" by Tommy McCook, "Love Of Jah" by Vivian Jackson & The Prophets, and "Valley Of Joeasaphat" by Smith & The Prophets. ✨✧ Yabby YouYabby You Sound – Dubs & Versions ... LP
Pressure Sounds (UK), Late 70s/Early 80s. New Copy 2LP ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Yabby You maybe wasn't one of the first to start experimenting in the studios of Kingston – but with work like this, he was certainly one of the best – especially in the classic period covered in the collection! The Yabby You approach often has a leaner, more stripped-down approach than some of his contemporaries – with less of the overall effects on the totality of a tune, and instead a nicely focused application to just a key instrument or element – sometimes an added bit of electronics, sometimes a way of messing up a solo in the middle! The Pressure Sounds label has always been great with work in this side of the spectrum, but they really knock it out of the park here – and bring together Yabby You versions of cuts from a variety of artists – including Wayne Wade, Michael Prophet, Ranking Trevor, and Samuel Patterson – titles that include "Creation Rock Version", "Now I Know Dub", "Warrior No Tarry Yah Version", "Heads A Roll Dub", "Repatriation Rock", "Death To All Racist", "Aggression Dub", "Chanting Version", "Yabby U Sound", "Man Of The Living Dub", "Black Is Our Colour Dub", and "Babylon A Fall Dub". Rarities from the mighty Yabby You – with some remarkably strong, though little heard rootsy dub from Yabby and his extended brethren – including some recently discovered bits! ✨✧ Yabby You & The ProphetsDeeper Roots Part 2 – More Dub & Rarities ... LP
Pressure Sounds (UK), Late 70s. Sealed 2LP ... Out Of Stock
Rare tracks and a fair bit of unreleased dub plates too – a deep dig into the genius of Yabby You during the 70s! There's a dark, brooding intensity to these tracks right from the start – from the deep, bassy bottoms of the dubs – to the prophetic lyrics of the tunes, which often feature these unusual references to the Old Testament! All work here was done with the Prophets group, and some feature work from Vivian Jackson, Tony Tuff, or Wayne Wade – singers who flesh out the vibe of the tunes without changing the mood or spirit at all. The package is a great reminder of why Pressure Sounds is usually right out on top with reggae reissues like this – and it's filled with gems that include "I Can't Hide", "Walls Of Jerusalem", "Psalm 16", "Stop Your Quarreling", "Chant Down Babylon Kingdom", "Sipping I & I Chalice", "Time Changing", and "Mash Down". LP, Vinyl record album
(Standard issue from 2014. Cover has a small center split in the top seam and is bent a bit at the top right corner.)

Patrick AndyLiving In Mount Zion ... LP
Pressure Sounds (UK), 1977. New Copy ... $24.99 29.99
An unreleased album of sorts from roots reggae great Patrick Andy – tracks that were initially culled together by producer Yabby You in the late 70s, and which include a few never-issued tunes by Andy, plus rare stereo mixes of some other tunes too! If you know the famous title single that gives the album its name, you'll know the righteous vibe of everything else within – as Patrick's vocals have this quality that's very personal and very moving, as he works with bad-stepping rhythms that are great for his vocal versions, and the dubs that follow up most of the tracks. Titles include the unreleased tracks "Call On Jah", "Got To Give Some Help", and "Give Thanks" – plus a stereo mix of "Living In Mount Zion", and the cuts "You Don't Want Me (unreleased mix)", "Youths Of Today", and "Love Of A Woman Dub (unreleased mix)" – plus five more dub tracks too.
