✨✧ Antonio Pinto & Ed CortesCity Of God – Original Soundtrack ... CD
Milan, 2002. Used ... Out Of Stock
A now-legendary soundtrack for the internationally acclaimed film City Of God – one that features some incredible new Brazilian funk by the team of Antonio Pinto & Ed Cortes – plus a good smattering of older numbers from the 70s Samba Soul generation, the inspiration for the sound of the film! The set's as great as any of our collections of classic Brazilian funk from years back – overflowing with wild percussion, mad guitars, and choppy rhythms that never let up. Original tracks include "Meu Nome E Ze", "A Transa", "Estoria Da Boca", "Funk Da Virada", "Vida De Otario", and "Morte Ze Pequeno" – plus older tracks that include "Na Rua Na Chuva Na Fazenda" by Hyldon, "Metamorfose Ambulante" by Raul Seixas, "Nem Vem Que Nao Tem" by Wilson Simonal, and "No Caminho Do Bem" by Tim Maia. CD
(Out of print. Spine has a cutout notch.)

✨✧ VariousGilles Peterson In Brazil ... CD
Ether (UK), 1960s/2004. Used 2 CDs ... Out Of Stock
A soaring selection of Brazilian groove – selected by the great Gilles Peterson – one of the best collections ever assembled by the world famous DJ! Gilles goes way past the obvious for the sets, which are divided into two discs – one for classic tracks (many of which are actually woefully under-appreciated, in the grand scheme) and a second disc of recent tracks and remixes. The mood is really soaring and soulful throughout – groovy sambas mingle with Brazilian jazz and soul tunes, and cheeky psychedelia-steeped 60s sunshine on the first disc. The mood on disc two is wholly reverent of the samba roots, but it's also awash in modern club grooves – with sputtering post drum & bass, a hip hop beat track sensibility on others, and a straight driving club groove on still others! Disc one (Classicos) includes "Nem Vem Que Nao Tem" by Wilson Simonal, "Berimbau" by Golden Boys, "No Caminho Do Bem" by Tim Maia, "Serrado" by Djavan, "Nana" by Os Cobras, "Zanzibar" by Sergio Mendos & Brasil '77, "Sob O Mar by Jaime E Nair, "Tudo Que Voce Podia Ser" by Quarteto Em Cy and more. Disc two (Da Hora) includes "Bob" by Otto (Edu K mix feat Bebel Gilberto), "Menino" by Patricia Marx & 4 Hero, "Parabens" by Marcos Valle, "Green Gold" by Spiritual South, "Malandragem" by Drumagick, "Beyond The Rains" (Drumagick city mix) by Mitchell & Dewbury featuring Billie Godfrey, "Moments Of Lust" by DJ Marky & XRS featuring Vikter Duplaix and more. ✨✧ VariousSamba Soul 70! ... CD
Six Degrees/Ziriguiboom, Early 70s. Used ... Out Of Stock
The sound of funky 70s Brazil! This excellent compilation brings together 16 lost funk and soul tunes from 70s Brazil – tracks inspired by American groups of the time, but touched with uniquely Brazilian influences that make them well worth discovering today. A few of these groups have shown up over the years on other reissues we've got here at Dusty Groove – but the quality of the overall set is excellent, really one of the first full explorations of this scene that we've ever stocked! And even though the package is put out by the remix-heavy Six Degrees label, rest assured that the tracks you'll hear on here are the real thing – all original gems from the classic heavy 70s scene! Titles include "Cosa Nostra" by Erlon Chaves, "Homenagem A Mongo" by Som Tres, "Nego Dito" by Branca Di Neve, "A Vida Em Seus Metodos Diz Calma" by Di Melo, "Mane Joao" by Wanderlea, "Saltei De Banda" by Elza Soares, "Jogaram O Caxanga" by De Savoya Combo, "Que Nega E Essa" by Trio Mocoto, and "Nao Vem Que Nao Tem" by Wilson Simonal.
