Mint Tattoo —
Mint Tattoo ... LP Dot, 1969. Near Mint- Gatefold ...
Out Of Stock
One of those great obscure records from that moment when the mostly-pop Dot Records was dabbling in underground rock – and really letting the groups do their own sort of thing! The group's a trio – with Bruce Stephens on guitars and vocals – and the titles give a good idea of the direction of the music, as does the racy "peek a boo" cover too! Titles include "Scorpio Woman", "Vampire Symphony", "Mark Of The Beast", and "I Hear The Spirits". LP, Vinyl record album

Tattoo —
Tattoo ... LP Prodigal, 1976. Near Mint- ...
Out Of Stock
The first-ever issue of music from a short UK film of the 70s – nicely trippy sounds from very familiar instruments! The cool 10" album brings together all the music for the short documentary as one piece – nicely drifting sounds created by a combo that features Julian Furniss on guitar, Geoff Jolliffe on bass, Mick Kirby on drums, and Steve Jolliffe himself on keyboards, flute, and saxophones! Given the instrumentation, you might expect jazz – but the results are a lot more unique, and perfect for the offbeat nature of the film. LP, Vinyl record album
(Limited to 300 copies!)

Rolling Stones —
Tattoo You ... LP Rolling Stones, 1981. Very Good+ ...
Out Of Stock
An album that some thought might mark the final years of The Rolling Stones – as it came out as Mick Jagger was reaching 40 – but one that instead marked a great rebirth of the group and its sound, and set a whole new standard for the group for years to come! The opening lick of the first track, "Start Me Up", has become one of The Stones trademark sonic fingerprints – and the whole thing keeps on moving strong, through titles that include "Hang Fire", "Slave", "Black Limousine", "Worried About You", "Waiting On A Friend", "No Use In Crying", "Tops", and "Little T & A". LP, Vinyl record album
(US pressing with Masterdisk/RL etch. Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has light wear.)
Jerry Goldsmith —
Omen ... LP 20th Century/Tattoo, 1976. Near Mint- ...
Out Of Stock
Arguably one of the greatest horror soundtracks ever – an intense bit of work that builds on the vocal choral style of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, using male and female voices in union with staccato orchestrations to invoke a fiercely tense mood – one that works perfectly for the spooky undercurrents of the film! The approach is amazing – and even on the mellower numbers, there's a real sense of danger lurking that makes for one heck of a spooky record – maybe even more so than some later, starker soundtracks – given the subtle approach of Jerry Goldmsith. Tracks include "The Piper Dreams", "The Fall", "The Altar", "Ave Santani", "The Demise Of Mrs Baylock", and "Killer's Storm". LP, Vinyl record album
A live bit of fusion supergroup jamming – one in which Billy Cobham and George Duke are joined by Alphonso Johnson and John Scofield in a set of really soulful numbers! The main focus here is straight fusion jamming, but there's also a nice undercurrent of funk and soul in the set as well – and Jon Lucien makes an appearance on the track "Almustafa The Beloved" – a great number with a break sampled by Peanut Butter Wolf! George Duke indulges himself a touch on "Space Lady", a spare electric keys number with a lengthy spoken intro – and other titles include "Do What Cha Wanna", "Frankenstein Goes To The Disco", "Hip Pockets", "Ivory Tattoo", "Sweet Wine", and "Juicy". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has a cutout notch.)

Sade —
Love Deluxe ... LP Epic/Legacy, 1992. New Copy (reissue)...
$33.9934.99On September 20, 2024
Sade's last LP from the early 90s before she went into her brief recording and performing hiatus. Like the preceding records, the approach is heavy on the jazz side of things, with a crisp, spare touch on the production and a wonderfully soulful feel to the songwriting. At this point she no longer had to work to break into the charts, but that didn't stop her and her band from coming up with a great batch of material that managed to be easily accessible without losing any of the sublime grace that set her apart. Includes "No Ordinary Love", "Cherish The Day", "Feel No Pain", "I Couldn't Love You More", "Like A Tattoo", "Kiss Of Life", "Pearls", "Bullet Proof Soul" and "Mermaid". LP, Vinyl record album
This item will not be delivered to you before Friday, September 20.

Mighty Sparrow —
Tatoo Woman ... LP National/Think (Japan), Mid 60s. New Copy (reissue)...
Out Of Stock
Very cool work from Mighty Sparrow – a calypso set, but one cut at a time when the music was fading from the mainstream – which allows Sparrow to keep things nice and raw, and deliver lyrics that have the same sort of bite as some of the best island sounds from the early days! Many tracks here are originals, and Sparrow also delivers some cool covers too – all with jazzy instrumentation that echoes some of the styles of early mento, as saxes come into a blend of romping piano, percussion, and the singer's own guitar. Titles include "Unto Negro", "English Diplomacy", "Tattoo Woman", "Jack", "Under My Skin", "El Reloj", and "Big Bamboo". LP, Vinyl record album
(Great Japanese pressing – much nicer than the original!)
Has there ever been anyone as lovely as Sade? We think not – and from the time she first hit our ears in the 80s, it was the start of an instant love affair that's continued for decades! Sade really brought something new to music at the time – a return to older styles of acoustic and jazz-based instrumentation, at a time when so many soul singers were mostly working with beats, keyboards, and samples – and a breathy voice that was instantly unique, and which kept on captivating us for years of recordings. This best of collection dates from the mid 90s – and provides an excellent sampling of tracks from Sade's albums Diamond Life, Promise, Stronger Than Pride, and Love Deluxe – titles that include "No Ordinary Love", "Like A Tattoo", "Cherish The Day", "Kiss Of Life", "Your Love Is King", "Hang Onto Your Love", "Sweetest Taboo", "Is It A Crime", and "Nothing Can Come Between Us". Joe Bonner —
Lifesaver ... LP Muse, 1975. Near Mint- ...
Out Of Stock
Wonderfully moody piano work from Joe Bonner – working here in spare solo space on one of his most evocative albums of the 70s! The album's filled with swirling piano lines, played in the usual sensitive Bonner style – stark single-note melodies standing out, couched by fuller chords that are dripping with color. The piano's acoustic throughout, but as with Kenny Barron at this time, there's a slight hint of electricity in the phrasing – and titles include "Tattoo", "Little Chocolate Boy", "Native Son", "The Lifesaver", and "The Observer". LP, Vinyl record album

Simon Boswell —
Santa Sangre ... CD Rustblade (Italy), 1989. New Copy ...
Out Of Stock
Director Alexander Jodorowsky has done music for his own films in the past – but for the well-circulated Santa Sangre, he turned to Simon Boswell – who does a perfect job of expanding on the sorts of musical ideas we might have expected from the master! Given the film's setting, there's a variety of older Mexican modes at play, mixed with some late 80s cinematic styles from Boswell – but all with that haunting, refracted sense of reality that Jodorowsky brings to his films. Titles include "Triste", "Alma", "Carnival Violin", "Fin Del Mundo", "Grave Business", "Acid Revenge", and "Church Tattoo". CD

Jonny Teupen —
Harpadelic ... CD MPS (Japan), 1969. Used ...
Out Of Stock
Electric harp?!?! Don't ask us – we like it! Jonny Teupen was one of the strangest and most wonderful artists to record for the MPS label during their glory days – and his big instrument was a jazz harp, which he often electrified to great result! Sure, Dorothy Ashby had been making jazz inroads on the instrument in the US at about the same time – but Teupen had a cool sound that was a bit sitar, a bit guitar, and a bit "inside the piano" at his wildest moments. This record is maybe his greatest moment ever – and mixes Jonny's harp with vibes from Dave Pike guitar from Volker Kriegel, trumpet from Shake Keane, and drums from Charly Antolini – all solid MPS players who really help ground the sound! Titles include "Blue Tattoo", "I Saw The Sun Going Down", "Love Me", " The Cornflower Girl", "Come Back & Shake Me", and "Harp Revolution". CD

Chico Freeman —
Pied Piper ... CD Blackhawk, 1984. Used ...
Out Of Stock
A surprisingly great little set from Chico Freeman – and a record that seems to hone his best creative energies of the loft jazz years into an even hipper groove! The group here features Freeman on a wide variety of reeds – alongside John Purcell on saxes and oboe, Kenny Kirkland on piano, Cecil McBee on bass, and Elvin Jones on drums – all in a sound that's wonderfully focused, and in a way that almost has Chico sounding a lot more deeply expressive than in earlier years. To us, Freeman's always been one of those players who sounds better on the inside than the out – and this album has him nicely restrained, and really working on the best side of his craft. Titles include "Blues On The Bottom", "The Rose Tattoo", "Pied Piper", "Monk 2000", "Softly As In A Morning Sunrise", and "Amor Sona Dor". CD
True masterpieces from Duke Ellington – some of his greatest compositions, presented here in an early Columbia LP that offers up "uncut concert arrangements" – clearly grooming a new side of Duke for the long-playing audience! The recordings were made in 1950, with players who include Johnny Hodges and Paul Gonzalves on saxes, Ray Nance and Cat Anderson on trumpets, and Tyree Glenn and Quentin Jackson on trombones. The tracks include "Mood Indigo", "Sophisticated Lady", "The Tattooed Bride" and "Solitude". CD

A fantastic mix of vocal insanity and surprising instrumental dexterity – with titles that include their classic "She Was Bitten On The Udder By An Adder" – plus "The Tattooed Lady", "Come Here Little Wifey", "Among My Souvenirs", "How Come There's No Dog Day", "I Love Your Pizza", and "Don't Jump Off The Roof Dad". Lil Wayne —
Tha Carter III ... LP Cash Money/Universal, 2008. New Copy 2LP (reissue)...
$39.9944.99
How can you resist an album with a picture of a baby on the cover with his hands and face covered in tattoos?! The set is maybe the biggest album in Lil Wayne's career – a set that was delayed a bit in the midst of big album leaks of the oughties – then really came on strong once it hit the record racks! Titles include the big hit single "Lollipop" – plus "Mr Carter", "Tie My Hands", "Mrs Officer", "Dr Carter", "La La", "You Ain't Got Nuthin", "Dontgetit", "Shoot Me Down", "Let The Beat Build", and "Got Money". Pretenders —
Pretenders ... LP Sire, 1980. Near Mint- ...
Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of the greatest mainstream rock and roll debuts of all time – and a record that still blows away just about any other later work by The Pretenders! The set's got this raw, sneering power that's neither punk, nor new wave – but which seems to be very much of that moment – a very unique blend of the group's Ohio roots and their London experience – honed to razor-sharp perfection, but never slick or polished at all. Chrissie Hynde is quite far from her ballad modes, and brings this raw, adult vibe to the record that really sets a whole new level for women in rock – never sweet, but never sexed-up either – standing as firmly in the group alongside her masculine cohorts as she does on the cover. Production is great – oddly dark in all the right ways, but with a very simple elegance – and the album's near-perfect from start to finish – with tracks that include "Precious", "The Phone Call", "Tattooed Love Boys", "Private Life", "Kid", "The Wait", and "Mystery Achievement". LP, Vinyl record album

Atmosphere —
Lucy Ford ... CD Rhymesayers, 2000. Used ...

Atmosphere's signature tortured, catchy and introspective hip hop. A tad bit more polished than their previous efforts, but Slug still harnesses the dark and bitterness deep down. The ANT production on these tracks really shines and had matured significantly since earlier work. Tracks include "Between The Lines", "Guns And Cigarettes", "Party For The Fight To Write", "The Woman With The Tattooed Hands", "Free Or Dead", "Mama Had A Baby And His Head Popped Off", "Tears For The Sheep", "Aspiring Sociopath", "They're All Gonna Laugh @ You", "Nothing But Sunshine" and more.
